How does the actual water filter compare with electronic water ionizer filters?

The alkaStream has as its first stage, a ceramic membrane that halts sediment entry. Most filters simply let it in and replace the filter when flow slows up due to accumulated sediment. The alkaStream filter can be removed and ‘sanded’ down with the included cleansing sheet to remove all sediment and restore flow.

Affordable Filter Replacement

Our filters need to be replaced every 6 months or 5000 liters, a schedule similar to electric water ionizers. In fact, our filter might last longer ... a third of the water that goes through a water ionizer filter goes down the drain, not into your body. If fluoride is an issue, you must replace the filter every 6 months, regardless of volume, but there is no other method that removes fluoride so safely and effectively.

Does Not Use Alumina to Remove Fluoride!The alkaStream does not use alumina filtration media to remove fluoride. This is a major difference between the alkaStream and other types of filtration systems. [Conventional water ionizer filters do NOT remove fluoride, although some fluoride may be lost through the waste or acid water hose.]

Removes Heavy MetalsAnd it doesn’t add any, either. All water ionizers create a platinum colloid, and if the platinum wears away exposing the titanium alloy beneath, those metals can also be released into the water. In nano amounts, yes, but over time? Who knows. You can have peace of mind that your water is free of heavy metals with the alkaStream.

Performance

Although it uses no power, has no electronics or complicated plumbing, performance is almost identical. The only major difference is that performance is fully optimized every time a filter replacement is installed. Electronic systems are dependent on the viability of the electronics and electrolysis cell for their continued performance.

As such they are far more susceptible to the effects of hard water.

The alkaStream has a filter specifically designed for hard water. This filter removes excess minerals from the water, then replaces them with vital alkaline minerals.

How does AlkaStream’s pH perform?In a special laboratory created ‘witches’ brew’ of pesticides, volatile organics, fluoride chlorine, and minerals, the alkaStream changed a pH of 6.5 to an output pH of 9.5.

Please be aware that like any water ionizer, pH output is always dependent upon the mineral makeup of the input water. However the advantage of the alkaStream is that in areas of hard water with excessive levels of alkaline minerals, it will reduce these minerals and then re-infuse the water with lower, healthier levels of alkaline minerals (as well as micro clustering and ionizing the water).

The difference is vital to understand: a water ionizer consists of a replaceable filter and an electrolysis chamber. An alkaStream consists of a filter only, and all performance comes from the filter. The main problem for electronic water ionizers is that the chamber will accumulate minerals unless it is religiously cleansed. Most major manufacturers reserve the right to void warranty unless they can see evidence that you have been regularly cleaning the system.

Naturally, mineral coating reduces the electrolysis chamber’s ability to both alkalize and ionize, leading to a downward curve in performance over time.

How does the AlkaStream’s O.R.P. compare with conventional electronic water ionizers?

The alkaStream maintains pH and ORP two ways:

1. Through natural ionization using the proprietary media in the filter

2. Through replacement of the filter cartridge at six month intervals.

This ‘restores’ the AlkaStream to full filtration, pH and ORP performance.

From our testing, we have not achieved ORP levels as strong as some electronic water ionizers have been capable of reaching in optimized trials. However the argument about high ORP neglects to allow for the fact that the body cannot utilize high levels of hydroxyl ions if there is no corresponding free radicals. A hydroxyl ion seeks free radical oxygen atoms. If they do not exist then high ORP has no function. High ORP, however, on an electronic water ionizer, has the disadvantage that it also creates excessively high pH, sometimes making the water bitter and undrinkable. We have achieved over 600mv change in local water through the alkaStream. This will change depending on your own water sources.

Produces Stable ‘Healthy’ pH and Negative ORP

The pH of the water produced by the alkaStream is dependent upon source water, but will be between 9 and 9.5 pH in most cases. While some water ionizers can produce higher pH levels, drinking alkaline water higher than 9.5 pH is not recommended long-term. While you cannot select varying pH levels with the alkaStream, it is a misconception that water ionizers ‘control’ pH ... most are not that sophisticated and the pH you get depends on the source water.

The alkaStream can produce a change of 500 to 700 points in Oxidation-Reduction Potential. If your source water is at a typical +200-300 ORP, you should get a -ORP comparable to most electric water ionizers. If your source water ORP is higher, your results will be different. A -250 to -450 ORP is considered by most experts to be adequate for healthy people. [In fact, in Korea, the water ionizing experts believe that -100 ORP is plenty.]

Uses Scientifically Established Chemical Reaction to Produce Free Hydrogen.

The ‘father’ of ionized water, Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi, maintains that free hydrogen is the primary characteristic of ionized water responsible for the observed health effects. Free hydrogen produced by electric water ionizers is not stable, and is only present for a few seconds after the water is produced. To get the benefits, one must drink the water immediately. He has also described another method to produce stable free hydrogen - a reaction of magnesium with water. That’s what the alkaStream uses to make its antioxidant filter, and it is this feature that is responsible for the antioxidant effect of the water.

How does AlkaStream handle hard water?An important consideration since most of the US has Moderately Hard to Extremely Hard Water!The hard water filter is recommended for water that exceeds a TDS of 300. In this situation it will absorb minerals in the water and elute its own level of minerals in alkaline form. This is in contrast to a standard water ionizer that concentrates minerals as it separates acid and alkaline. In hard water areas this means calcium may cause problems including clouding of glassware, accretion in kettles etc for electronic water ionizer users.
