Our campaign culminated at YC 2015–the biggest multi-denominational Christian youth conference in Canada–where thousands of youth gather each year for connection and encouragement. This year our presence at YC included an interactive booth, a full-spread magazine ad, and a professionally produced commercial that was played on the big screen at some of the main conference sessions. The response we received at our booth was very enthusiastic. Over the course of the weekend we had opportunity to connect with youth leaders and youth as we took hundreds of youth group photos and accepted submissions for our “I W My Youth Leader” contest. The “I W My Youth Leader” contest invited students to nominate a deserving youth leader by giving us their top three reasons why their youth leader is great. We received over 100 nominations representing over forty different churches! Congratulations to the youth and their leadership at St. Albert Alliance Church who were the recipients of a surprise pizza party, some Stormtroopers and an amazing youth leader gift package–be sure to check out the video on our website! Additionally, Mount Carmel mailed out personalized posters to each nominated youth leader–complete with student tributes–encouraging them in their important work. During July and August, Mount Carmel had many alumni involved in camps. 6 people served on our Camp team, serving at eight different camps. Our thanks to Kim deJong, Cinnamon Forstey, Sam Mejia, Josh Siewert, Gerdiene Slomp and team leader Tanner Hofs. We also had three of last year’s students spend the summer at Cape Breton Bible Camp, serving under Pete and Ashley (alumni 2002) Stenstrom there. Thanks to Lorne Gelinas, Dallas Mehrer, and Anna Page. And thanks to all of you who donated to support these teams and the individuals on them. Since the 1500’s more than 30,000 Christian groups have sprung up throughout the world. How do we make sense of so many churches? Are they merely the product of people’s lust for power? Are they all the result of the Spirit’s renewing work? Or does the truth lie somewhere between these two options? In this exciting era of church history, not only will we see how God used imperfect people to renew his Church, we will also get an idea of how God might use us to bring renewal to our church communities. This is an open invitation for adults of any age to look at the Protestant Reformation and its key figures, in a class style setting. Once that happens, all my thoughts seem to flow toward those ruts for a while. I currently have two thought habits, two ideas that I seem to drift back to quite often. One originates in the story of Abram being asked by God to leave the life he knew in Ur and travel to an unidentified place for a non-specific reason. Abram says yes! That yes is almost unbelievable to me. I often wonder if Abram was the seventeenth person God had come to with this proposal, and we know him only because he was the first to say yes. Regardless, he did say yes. He made the choice to take a chance, to risk life as he knew it for life as it could be. The second idea that has been playing on repeat in my brain lately starts with Jesus’ parable of the sower, sometimes referred to as the parable of the soils. The farmer sows seed somewhat indiscriminately, scattering it in a wide arch, just seeing where it will catch. That seed falls in a variety of places, and some of it produces a crop. I have been asking myself what sort of soil I am being these days? As God scatters his “truth” into my life, how often am I hard soil that his ideas bounce off of? How often do I start to respond, but then the new way of life doesn’t really take root, or gets choked out by the rest of my life? How often do I respond and let God’s way produce “fruit” in my life? The two ideas come together for me in one word – “choice”. We are constantly given the freedom, and the responsibility, to choose. I choose my response to life and its circumstances. I choose my response to God’s tugs and pulls in my life, to the “truth” he is sowing into me. Sometimes, like Abram, I boldly step out and say “yes”. At other times, God’s invitation to a new way of life bounces off of me and has no effect. Inside this prayer calendar are pictures of some people who have said “yes” to the invitation to step out in a new direction in life. These people have let the tug of God in their life have an impact, and have agreed to give themselves to a process of growth and development for this year. They said “yes”! We send this prayer calendar with the request that you use it as a reminder to pray for Mount Carmel. Earlier this year, thanks to the generous response of a small group of supporters, Mount Carmel was able to launch an exciting, interactive, and multi-faceted promotions campaign that wove together radio, social media, print, video and church networking elements.

Join Andreas Tabert at Mount Carmel for four Tuesday evening intensive study sessions.

Sometimes, ideas form ruts in my brain.
