Birthday Celebration

Venite Psalm 951-7 BCP 82

All Come let us sing to the Lord

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to him with psalms For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods In his hand are the caverns of the earth and the heights of the hills are his also The sea is his for he made it and his hands have molded the dry land Come let us bow down and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our Maker For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand Oh that today you would hearken to his voice

4

Psalm 105 Psalm 105 1-6 37-45 BCP 738 Lector Let us read from Psalm 105 responsively by whole verse Give thanks to the L ORD and call upon his Name

make known his deeds among the peoples Sing to him sing praises to him

and speak of all his marvelous works Glory in his holy Name

let the hearts of those who seek the L ORD rejoice Search for the L ORD and his strength

continually seek his face Remember the marvels he has done

his wonders and the judgments of his mouth O ospring of Abraham his servant

O children of Jacob his chosen

He led out his people with silver and gold in all their tribes there was not one that stumbled

Egypt was glad of their going because they were afraid of them

He spread out a cloud for a covering and a re to give light in the night season

They asked and quails appeared and he satised them with bread from heaven

He opened the rock and water owed so the river ran in the dry places

For God remembered his holy word and Abraham his servant

So he led forth his people with gladness his chosen with shouts of joy

He gave his people the lands of the nations and they took the fruit of othersrsquo toil

That they might keep his statutes and observe his laws

Hallelujah All Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever Amen

The First Reading Exodus 162ndash15 NRSV read by Reneacutee Ehle

Lector A Reading from the Book of Exodus The whole congregation of the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness The Israelites said to them ldquoIf only we had died by the hand of the L ORD in the land of Egypt when we sat by the eshpots and ate our ll of bread for you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hungerrdquo

Then the L ORD said to Moses ldquoI am going to rain bread from heaven for you and each day the people shall go out and gather enough for that day In that way I will test them whether they will follow my instruction or not On the sixth day when they prepare what they bring in it will be twice as much as they gather on other daysrdquo So Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites ldquoIn the evening you shall know that it was the L ORD who brought you out of the land of Egypt and in the morning you shall see the glory of the L ORD because he has heard your complaining against the L ORD For what are we that you complain against usrdquo And Moses said ldquoWhen the L ORD gives you meat to eat in the evening and your ll of bread in the morning because the L ORD has heard the complaining that you utter against himmdashwhat are we Your complaining is not against us but against the L ORD rdquo

Then Moses said to Aaron ldquoSay to the whole congregation of the Israelites lsquoDraw near to the L ORD for he has heard your complainingrsquothinsprdquo And as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the Israelites they looked toward the wilderness and the glory of the L ORD appeared in the cloud The L ORD spoke to Moses and said ldquoI have heard the complaining of the Israelites say to them lsquoAt twilight you shall eat meat and in the morning you shall have your ll of bread then you shall know that I am the L ORD your Godrsquothinsprdquo

In the evening quails came up and covered the camp and in the morning there was a layer of dew around the camp When the layer of dew lifted there on the surface of the wilderness was a ne aky substance as ne as frost on the ground When the Israelites saw it they said to one another ldquoWhat is itrdquo For they did not know what it was Moses said to them ldquoIt is the bread that the L ORD has given you to eatrdquo Lector The Word of the Lord People Thanks be to God

The Second Reading Philippians 1 12-26 NRSV read by Jen Kwong

Lector A Reading from the Letter of Paul to the Philippians

I want you to know beloved that what has happened to me has actually helped to spread the gospel so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to everyone else that my imprisonment is for Christ and most of the brothers and sisters having been made condent in the Lord by my imprisonment dare to speak the word with greater boldness and without fear

7

Some proclaim Christ from envy and rivalry but others from goodwill These proclaim Christ out of love knowing that I have been put here for the defense of the gospel the others proclaim Christ out of selsh ambition not sincerely but intending to increase my suering in my imprisonment What does it matter Just this that Christ is proclaimed in every way whether out of false motives or true and in that I rejoice

Yes and I will continue to rejoice for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance It is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be put to shame in any way but that by my speaking with all boldness Christ will be exalted now as always in my body whether by life or by death For to me living is Christ and dying is gain If I am to live in the esh that means fruitful labor for me and I do not know which I prefer I am hard pressed between the two my desire is to depart and be with Christ for that is far better but to remain in the esh is more necessary for you Since I am convinced of this I know that I will remain and continue with all of you for your progress and joy in faith so that I may share abundantly in your boasting in Christ Jesus when I come to you again

Lector The Word of the Lord People Thanks be to God

All Come let us sing to the Lord

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving and raise a loud shout to him with psalms For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods In his hand are the caverns of the earth and the heights of the hills are his also The sea is his for he made it and his hands have molded the dry land Come let us bow down and bend the knee and kneel before the Lord our Maker For he is our God and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand Oh that today you would hearken to his voice

Canticle 9 | The First Song of Isaiah Isaiah 12 2-6 BCP 86

Lector Surely it is God who saves me I will trust in him and not be afraid For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense and he will be my Savior Therefore you shall draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation And on that day you shall say Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name Make his deeds known among the peoples see that they remember that his Name is exalted Sing the praises of the Lord for he has done great things and this is known in all the world Cry aloud inhabitants of Zion ring out your joy for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever Amen

All Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit

as it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever Amen

Canticle 18 | A Song to the Lamb Revelation 411 59-10 13 BCP 93

All Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever Amen
