Supplies Needed
A majority of the campers who will partici-pate in this program will be in need of clothing, bedding, and other significant supplies. Their parents and/or care-givers usually have little or no financial re-sources. Personal supplies needed for each child include: sleeping bag, pillow, pillow case, bath towel, wash cloth, large toothpaste, tooth brush, hair brush, large shampoo. Items should be new and will serve the child at home as well as at camp. If you can help with personal sup-plies, contact Camp Overlook. Some sup-plies have already been received in quan-tity.
Surprises
One of many ways to express love and care is the sharing of unexpected gifts and other tokens of love that are both welcome and beneficial. If you or your church would like to help with some sur-prises, let us know. We try to coordinate such expressions of love with the rest of the program and would like for you to contact us before investing. Perhaps we may even have a helpful idea!
The United Methodist Churches of Virginia have focused on being the Church to all God’s children. This requires a special effort to reach
out to those who are often not associated with the church for the present. The camp
weekend described in this bro-chure is intended to reach children at risk because one of their parents is incarcerated. It is our goal to surround these children with the love of Christ demonstrated through many acts of caring and sharing. The children are invited to a special weekend in the fall and participate with others in the regu-lar summer program. Best of all, they are mentored by uncondition-ally loving adults. We hope to link each child to a church for a con-
Funds to operate the weekend are needed to
cover the costs of food and lodging for campers
and mentors, mentor training, leadership manu-
als and certain program supplies. A sponsor-
ship gift of $150 covers these costs as prorated
per camper. Checks may be made payable to
Camp Overlook but should be marked for All
God’s Children.
Another aspect of sponsorship includes praying
for the campers and mentors. The weekend is
strenuous for leaders and a wonderful opportu-
nity for campers. Pray for God to surround both
with love and guidance.
Let the Little Children Come to Me...
Sponsor a child!
Be a mentor!
Supply personal items!
Provide loving surprises!
Be a Mentor
Energetic, committed, and patient men and women are needed to form a personal, Christ revealing, relation-ship with our campers. Mentors will probably relate to two campers and will participate as a partner in camp activities. Good physical condition is important for negotiating the hills and trails of Camp Overlook and keeping up with excited youngsters.
Mentors live in the cabin with the campers throughout the weekend and maintain contact by phone or correspondence with their campers until the camp scheduled for next fall. Mentors are volunteer and their camp expenses are paid through the sponsorships already described.
Sponsor a Child
A goal of All God’s Children is to relate these children and their families to a church!
Reach out to All God’s Children!
