The Sacrament of Reconciliation: Confessions are heard each week on Saturday at the Church (SR #46) from 3:45pm to 4:45pm Learn more about this beautiful sacrament by visiting our website: www.allsoulssanford.org/reconciliation The Sacrament of Baptism: Call the parish office to learn the necessary requirements and make an appointment with Father Kenneth Metz to have your child baptized. Ask us about the requirements for Godparents. The Sacrament of Marriage: Getting married? Congratulations! The process of being married in the Catholic Church could take between 6 months to a year to complete. Please contact Ann Cammarata at the parish office as soon as possible after your engagement if you would like to be married at All Souls Catholic Church. Anointing of the Sick: Please call the parish office. The Rite of Anointing tells us there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive the Sacrament. Did you know that the Sacrament may be repeated if the person becomes sick again? A person should be anointed before surgery when a dangerous illness is the reason for the intervention. Eucharistic Ministry to the Sick and Homebound: If you are unable to attend Mass, please call the parish office so we may assist you in having a visit from one of our ministers or one of our priests. Catholic Funeral and Burial: Please call the parish office or have the funeral home director contact us to arrange the Funeral Mass and for more information about burial at All Souls Catholic Cemetery. Our Online Homilies: If you missed Mass over the weekend you may view the homily by visiting: www.allsoulssanford.org

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we have worked to implement the first phase of the All Souls Emergency Plan. This initial phase limits access into the church and Historic Chapel once Mass begins. While the side doors are locked for entry or re-entry, you can always exit the doors. You will have noticed that there are ministers at each of the doors to lock the doors and to assist with exiting from the church if

needed. We need additional volunteers at all Masses to assist with this new ministry. We will have an information table at the church on the weekend of May 19-20th. Please stop by and speak with one of our volunteers. They are knowledgeable about the purpose of the St. Michael’s Ministry, and can answer questions you may have. We hope you will consider joining this important new ministry. Information will be available at the information table including requirements to be part of this ministry. Applicants must be 18 years of age, and go through the process to have fingerprint clearance through the Diocese of Orlando. Email: [email protected]

A message for kids only: Your father is a good man. He loves you very much. He wants only the best for you. He looks for ways to make your life better. Would you like to help him? Why not suggest that he attend the next social meeting of the Knights of Columbus? That way he can meet

other fathers who are working to build a stronger church, school, and community for you and your family. The Knights have a social meeting every first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 at the Columbus Club meeting hall 2504 South Oak Ave. in Sanford. Tell your Dad to ask any Knight for more information or call 321.262.5865.

This Sunday's Gospel is known as the "priestly prayer" of Jesus. The entire passage is Jesus entrusting us to the Father. "When I was with them I protected them ? I guarded them," Jesus says. He asks his Father, "Keep them in your name." In this prayer of Jesus, we see the paradoxical tension of our life as Christians in the world. He anticipates struggle for the believer. He describes it in strong words, words that could even appear frightening to the believer. "I gave them your word, and the world hated them." Not only that, but with our eyes on eternal life, we "do not belong to the world." And yet in the midst of those realities, Jesus doesn't take us out of the world. On the contrary, "as you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world." Christians live in this tension daily. The call of Jesus often defies nice, neat categories. We uphold justice as virtue yet are invited to love our enemies. We offer gifts and generous hospitality to others while being reminded of the value of temperance. We are called to teach the truth of right and wrong without losing sight of the beam in our own eye. It can be difficult to find the balance in our own lives, and a Church that preaches moral perfection can easily fall under scrutiny when it falls short. In the midst of these complications, Jesus offers a message of hope. He is well aware of the contradictions into which he sends us, and his Father will equip us accordingly. "Consecrate them in truth." "Keep them from the evil one." Jesus does not abandon us to the tensions of our time but remains near at hand by the grace alive in his Church. LPI, Inc.

burdensome, we are here to support you. We are happy you are here and want you to stay. We would like to share our lives with you. Come join us each week so we can worship God together. In this episode, Vincentians bring a mobile dental clinic to the underserved, work with the hearing-impaired and make a Home Visit with a family. See why members say they receive more than they give as they put their Catholic faith into action. (Stories from: Exeter, NH, Madison, WI, Uniontown, PA, Albuquerque) This Week’s Vincentian Reflection: Today, as we celebrate the feast of the Ascension, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disciples … and now through us. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor.

M e e t o u r V i n c e n t i a n s Faces of our Society: John Lenius on why he became a Vincentian: “The organization was involved.” Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul conference at All Souls Catholic Church is a Catholic lay organization that leads people to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in our community. Vincentians witness God's love by embracing all works of charity and justice, making no distinction in those served because in them we

see the face of Christ. Volunteers are needed to work directly with families and daily Society activities. Call the Assistance Hotline at 407.330.4400 to volunteer.

First Reading: According to the Acts of the Apostles, the first decision Peter and the Apostles made after the ascension of Jesus was to replace Judas and reconstitute the "12 Apostles." Why do you think this was so important? Second Reading: Why do you think John places such a high priority on the command to "love one another"? Gospel Reading: Today's reading is from the end of Jesus' farewell discourse to the Disciples where Jesus speaks of the world's hatred toward him and his followers. How do we still see today that the world does not welcome the saving message of Jesus?
