ENERGY COMPANIES JOIN SMART METER

PROMISE

Which? has secured commmitments from seven energy suppliers (Co-operative

Energy, Ecotricity, First Utility, Good Energy, Ovo, Spark and The Utility Warehouse) to sign up to our smart meter promise - where companies agree not to sell products or services when installing meters.By 2020, the government wants a smart meter in every UK home. But Which? is concerned suppliers are planning to use the smart meter installation as an opportunity to sell products, services and energy tariffs on the doorstep.According to our research, at least 11.5 million people have felt under pressure when approached by doorstep energy salespeople in the last 12 months.Which? believes that smart meter installers should fit the new meters, explain how they work, leave written information and then go.We feel so strongly about this, we’ve launched our ‘No selling, just installing. smart meter promise.Senior campaigner Jenny Driscoll said, “Smart meters could help us all save money on energy bills but we don’t want installers selling when they should simply be fitting. We’re delighted so many suppliers have signed up and urge the rest to accept our ‘no selling ‘ challenge.”

CAVITY WALL INDUSTRY MAKES IMPROVEMENTS

Companies that sell cavity wall insulation have been making improvements to the way they operate, in reaction to the scathing results of our undercover investigation. The Mark Group, which installs cavity wall insulation in 6,000 homes a week, is now reviewing the way it trains assessors. Npower said the research was ‘vital’ for consumer trust, and Marks and Spenser said it would adopt changes to industry guidelines. Which? has also met with the National Insulation Association, which is reviewing its code of conduct.Even companies that didn’t feature in our investigation, such as British Gas, EDF, Eon and Scottish Power, said thay would re-brief staff. For expert buying advice, and to see how much cavity wall insulation could save you on your energy bills, see our guide at www.which.co.uk/ buycavitywall.

SHOPPING NEWS HOME DELIVERY PROBLEMS

SSE SUSPENDS DOORSTEP SALESWhich? welcomes the news that Scottish and Southern Electricity (SSE) is to stop all doorstop selling. SSE will instead establish a network of ‘community based energy advisers’ who are allowed to sell its products but not paid a commission. In June, Which? called for SSE to change its sales tactics after a Surry Trading Standards court case rulled its sales scripts were misleading.

WHICH? RESEARCHERS WIN RECOGNITIONCathy Neal and Dan Moore picked up prizes at 2011’s British Insurance Broker’s Association Journalist of the Year Awards. Cathy was named best personal finance journalist for a report on uninsured drivers, while Dan was commended in the ‘scoop of the year’ category for his story on the Admiral Group penalising drivers born outside the UK.

PHONE FEATURESWhich? Mobile has found that phone features are the most important consideration for pay-monthly customers choosing a new handset. Recommendations from retailers or providers had little influence over handset choice. PAYG customers say that handset choice. PAYG customers say that handset cost is their most important consideration. For a Best Buy mobile to suit your needs see www.which.co.uk/mobilejuly

People could extend their lives by as much as 15 years if they follow a Mediterranean diet and meet other key requirements.According to researchers

at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, eating a Mediterranean diet and taking other steps - such as quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy weight, and undertaking regular exercise - can together help people to live for longer periods. A Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables, fruit, olive oil, fi sh, nuts, and whole grains

but low in alcohol and meat.

Mediterranean diet ‘may extend life’Researchers have suggested that people who take 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week have a reduced chance of suffering from heart disease. The US-based team found that those taking this amount of

exercise are up to 14% less likely to develop heart disease than those who take none at all.The fi ndings were revealed after the scientists analysed 33 studies into physical activity and heart disease - nine of which looked at how much exercise people are taking. But the study - published in Circulation, the journal of the

American Heart Association - found that more exercise was even better. Those exercising for 300 minutes a week saw their risk reduced by 20%, according to the team.Jacob Sattelmair, from the Department of Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, said: ‘Recent studies have begun to assess the actual amount of physical activity people are getting and how that relates to their risk of heart disease.’Very brisk walking, washing windows and mopping and cycling are all forms of moderate exercise.

Exercise ‘cuts heart disease risk’

Researchers in the US have made a breakthrough which could potentially treat memory problems in the future.Nerve connections that store information in the brain weaken in later life and lead to a decline in working memory - the thing which helps us

remember where we left our keys, or what our phone number is.But the Yale University team found that the decline could be partially reversed with a drug, restoring the brain to a more youthful state. The researchers did this by blocking certain pathways during a study on Rhesus monkeys, and they are now preparing to conduct a clinical trial on humans to

establish whether guanfacine can boost the working memory of older people.Published in the Nature journal, the research analysed how nerve cell activity in the brain’s prefrontal cortex changes over the years.A group of monkeys from young to old were involved in the trials - which showed that the networks of nerves in the brain which are used to store information slow over the years.

For several years now pet owners in the UK have been able to take their pets abroad to other EU countries and return to the UK

without the need for quarantine as long as they meet the rules of the PETS travel scheme. The scheme was designed to prevent rabies, certain tick-borne diseases and tapeworms from entering the UK as a consequence of the importation of pets.

The scheme involves micro-chipping animals, rabies vaccination and a 6 month wait after a blood test ( to ensure the vaccination was effective ) before animals could return to the UK. It also involved pets being treated for ticks and tapeworms abroad before returning.

This scheme has worked very well and there have not been any reported case of rabies in the EU associated with the legal movement of pets despite many hundreds of thousands of pet movements

having taken place. In the UK alone approximately 100,000 pets travel to the EU and return under the scheme each year, and have done so without incident.

However, recently the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) announced that the rules would be changing on 1st JANUARY 2012.

From this date pets travelling from EU member countries and “listed” countries such as USA, Australia and Japan will no longer need to be blood tested after they have been vaccinated against rabies, they will only have to wait 21 days following their rabies vaccination before they can enter the UK, rather than waiting six months as they do now. There will also no longer be any mandatory tick treatment before entering the UK and the current tapeworm controls may differ slightly as the fi nal details are still being decided by the European commission.

Currently all animals imported from non listed countries with a higher incidence of rabies such as China, India and South Africa have to go into quarantine for 6 months. Under the changes from 1st January pets will be microchipped, vaccinated against rabies and blood tested. They will then have a 3 month waiting period from the blood sampling date before they can enter the UK.

The argument by DEFRA for these proposed changes to the control regulations is “that they are proportionate to the disease risks involved and are scientifi cally justifi ed. In addition it will make travelling with pets easier and cheaper and provide UK citizens with the same level of free movement as other EU citizens”.

The British Veterinary Association and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association have expressed their concerns at the removal of mandatory tick treatments. As a profession we would strongly advise owners to continue with prophylactic tick treatment in the interests of responsible pet ownership and good animal health practice. Although there has been no fi nal decision on tapeworm treatment – we should retain some form of control to protect the UK from the tapeworm species Echinococcus multilocularis which can cause human disease as well as infecting pets.

It is very important to pay particular attention to your pet’s well-being when travelling, ensuring it is fi t to travel and does not suffer from any welfare issues such as overheating or dehydration. Just as we can be exposed to diseases such as malaria when travelling abroad, your pet may also be at risk from diseases they would not normally encounter.

Remember to consult your vet well in advance of travelling with your pet to discuss the PETS travel scheme and any potential diseases they may meet.

For more details of the scheme contact your vet or

visit the DEFRA website.

Decorative home lighting effectively combines style with function, accomplishing the all-important task of illumination, while simultaneously complementing a room’s decor. Today’s homeowners are taking advantage of the wide variety of

table and fl oor lamps, chandeliers, pendants, and wall sconces available to add fl air to their homes. Carefully chosen, decorative lighting is an effective way to illustrate the decorator’s personality and set nearly any kind of tone.

Designing with Light in the BedroomWhen lighting a bedroom, you will want to create an overall atmosphere of quiet relaxation, while providing some bright spots for reading and other activities. A combination of general and task lighting that takes into account the age and lifestyle of the occupant(s) is needed. Remember, dimming controls give you the fl exibility to vary the light to suit different moods.

Designing with Light in the Dining RoomDining room lighting should be both beautiful and functional. This requires a mix of general, task, and accent lighting that can set the mood for a number of functions, including a formal dinner, a family get-together, and other activities such as homework, hobbies, or family bookkeeping. Dimming controls will enable you to vary the light for each occasion

Designing with Light in the KitchenThe kitchen is primarily a work area, but it is also a gathering place for family and friends. Lighting that is comfortable as well as functional is required.

When choosing lighting for your home,as always we recommend that you speak with your local

retailer for help and advice.

Shaun Foggett has always had a dream – to open the UK’s fi rst crocodile zoo in Oxfordshire. Channel 5’s series Croc

Man charts his problematical progress.

Shaun has been collecting crocs since he was a teenager and now has the country’s biggest collection, including rare and endangered species of crocodiles, alligators and caimans. As we catch up with his story, the crocodiles are packed in sheds in the garden of his house, but he can’t afford to keep them there much longer.

It has been six months since former joiner Shaun got permission from the council to start converting an empty industrial unit near Witney into his dream zoo. And since then, he has worked around the clock to get his idea off the ground. But now Shaun has run out of money, so he is selling his house in order to get the zoo build fi nished. His wife Lisa and their three children, Billy, Louis and Shania, have already moved out to live with Shaun’s younger brother, Chris. It’s been a big upheaval for the whole Foggett family, but they’re more than prepared to do it for Shaun.

The buyers are keen to move into their new house, too – but there is a problem. Shaun cannot move his animals out of the sheds until council inspectors have approved his new place. And they won’t do that unless his building work is up to scratch. They are due to scrutinise Shaun’s new croc enclosures just four days before the house sale is due to complete. If they don’t like what they see, Shaun will be in the jaws of a dilemma... Will he have done enough to move his animals out of the sheds and into the new unit? Or will the house

sale and Shaun’s zoo dreams grind to a halt?

Why crocodiles?

“I’ve always had a fascination for crocodiles since I was young,” he reveals, “and as early as I can remember watching them on the television. Obviously you can’t keep those sort of animals, or so I thought. I started keeping other reptiles because I was interested in reptiles in general by my late teens, fi fteen to eighteen, then I actually saw a dwarf caiman [species of crocodile] for sale when I was nineteen.”

Shaun studied all the information he could fi nd on the captive husbandry of the smallest caiman species – Cuvier’s dwarf caiman– and discovered he would need a Dangerous Wild Animal licence.

“I’d no idea what that was, so I went away and did some research. Three years later I got my licence and got my fi rst caiman.”

Eager to increase his knowledge and awareness of these amazing reptiles, Shaun began to study other crocodile species and started to add to his collection. By late 2008, Shaun’s collection had grown to more than twenty crocodiles from ten species.

He continues to explain his fascination: “I think we as human beings – there’s something about predatory animals that we’re fascinated by… and that’s certainly true for crocodiles. I remember even as a child just thinking ‘How on earth do they get so close to their prey without being detected?’”

The proposed centre will be about education and conservation. The mission is to raise awareness of crocodiles and to educate people about their vulnerability to hunting, habitat loss and other human impacts. “There’s just something about them – they’ve been around since before dinosaurs. We have a duty to help repopulate the world numbers and

to educate people. Interacting with them you do feel a connection. I want people to appreciate them more.”

But his battle to reach his long-term goal was never going to be easy… “I never had any idea I would end up doing this – I never realised it would take me this far.”

What was the reaction of his family and friends when he started his collection ten years ago?

He admits they thought the idea was a bit strange but can’t recall anyone throwing up their hands in horror. He admits his children, Billy, Louie and Shania, now seven, fi ve and two aren’t at all fazed. “To them it’s very, very normal. They don’t have a huge involvement obviously because of the nature of the animals – they are fascinated but it’s just second nature to them. It’s just like anyone else’s dad going to work.”

In how many parts of the world are crocodiles found?

“They’re found in all tropical and sub-tropical countries. Europe is the only continent they’re not found in.”

He explains why their numbers are dwindling. “One problem is the loss of habitat from human encroachment and also illegal poaching [for the skin]. A lot of crocodile conservation revolves around breeding the endangered species and re-releasing them into the wild in the future.”

Has he ever had criticism about keeping the crocs in captivity?

“It has been said to me in the past on one or two occasions. My answer to that is we as human beings have pushed those animals to the brink of extinction and without captive breeding programmes, then those animals would probably be extinct by now. The goal for me is to have all 23 species of crocodile – crocodilians.”

It has to be asked… what happens when the family go on holiday? It isn’t quite the same as asking your neighbour to pop in and feed the budgie, is it?

Shaun laughs. “My brother [Chris] certainly has helped me all the way along and just my friends really. If ever I’ve needed any help doing anything, I’ve developed quite a good little team behind me.”

Has he ever been injured by his animals?

Croc ManShaun Foggett is following his dream but is time running out? He’d better make it snappy….

Presumably, even in captivity, they can be dangerous?

“Of course they’re dangerous. They’re predatory animals and they command a huge amount of respect and you always have to give them that respect and never take your eye off the ball.”

Shaun certainly doesn’t go in for heroics, like sticking his head between their jaws.

“The thing is, you don’t put yourself in that situation. There’s no need to get that close. I’ve never had a close encounter. I’ve never been harmed by any of my animals – I’m respectful of them and never let down my guard. I’ve put measures in place to eliminate any possibility of accidents happening.”

In the unlikely event that we should come across one in the wild, what’s the best course of action?

“If you came across one in the wild, you would move away from it very quickly. An adult human being can outrun a crocodile. If you see one close to you, you’re better off leaving it alone and keeping well away from it. You’re most likely to see it in the water – that is where they hunt and that is where they’re at their most dangerous.”

Shaun’s venture doesn’t come cheap. It costs £8,000 a year just for feeding and heating.

“The biggest bill is the heating because we live in a cold climate and they are cold blooded so they can’t tolerate our temperatures here. They need to be kept in a temperature controlled environment. The smaller ones get fed a number of times a week [with rodents and fi sh] and the larger ones normally get fed once a week.”

But don’t crocs live mainly in water?

“Yes, crocodiles are aquatic animals – they do everything in the water – they hunt, they breed, everything revolves around the water so they need large swimming areas… they come out on to the land to bask, just to warm up.”

So how did you cater for that in the back garden?

“They all had large pools in their enclosures. They looked like sheds from the outside but inside they were designed and built specifi cally for the purpose.”

It’s documented on the internet that he raised

£100,000 in two years to fund his ambition.

“That’s rubbish! I had to sell my house and use the equity that was in the house but there wasn’t that much…” It’s a gamble Shaun hopes will pay off.

What kind of silly questions do people ask when they’re introduced to his collection?

“There is no silly question. Not everyone knows the tiniest of details. I get a whole range of questions all the time and I fi nd that very interesting.”

What is the most common question?

“’Can I take one home?’ Er, no… they’re all safely locked away.”

Surprisingly, all crocodile species have the same life expectancy as humans and can live to well over a hundred years old.

How many eggs would you expect to fi nd in a clutch?

“Again they’re all different [each species]. We can have as little as seven with some of the smaller species, right up to sixteen for the bigger species. In captivity we incubate them – it’s safer to keep

them separate during the incubation period. Some of the males don’t like young crocodiles…”

Are they aggressive towards each other otherwise?

“Crocodiles are very territorial and all the species are different. Sometimes they do have fallings-out like we do as humans. It’s just unfortunate that their way of dealing with it is sometimes fi ghting and biting each other. It can end up in one killing another so it can be very serious or it can be very minor and they kiss and make up an hour later. The same species can be kept in the same enclosure.”

Shaun is the fi rst to admit that his proposal has its unique obstacles and is never going to fi t the criteria for a conventional business plan…

“For instance, when I was trying to get the phone connected, they asked: ‘Do you mind if I ask what you do?’”

Will Shaun be the fi rst person in the universe to answer the phone with: ”Hello… Crocodiles of the World….”?

America leads the fight against the Nazi-backed HYDRA organization. Starring Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan.

Out Of This World…Topless Man Banned...A ban on topless men boarding buses has been enforced due to undesirable sweating. The no-sweat rule, introduced by the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company, aims to keep hygiene at a high standard. With the potential for there to be upset passengers, The Big Lemon Bus has opened its seats to all men who enjoy going topless. ‘People don’t have to be lemon fresh to get on our buses,’ explained finance manager, Richard Marsh. ‘Toplessness is welcome as long as it doesn’t contravene the law about public decency – fancy dress and breast feeding is also fine.’

Hookers...A campaign to beat the world record for the most linked bras came to a grinding halt after they became tangled up, making them too difficult to unclip. The plan was to link the bras 95 times around Worcester racecourse, but the tangled underwear made the task impossible to complete. ‘We have worked so hard to get it all together but as learning curves go it’s been really useful,’ said campaign manager Launa Walker. ‘The lorry drivers (who had been delivering the bras) can only do so many hours because they have to get home. We needed another couple of hours to get it sorted logistically – so it’s only a postponement,’ she added. Organisers have agreed to go ahead with a second attempt, this time with better planning.

Slip Sliding Away...Dutch train passengers using Overvecht railway station can expect a quicker than normal journey after having a ‘transfer accelerator’ installed - otherwise known as a big children’s slide. Grown men have been spotted smiling gleefully as they travel down it and mature women can be seen laughing like school girls as they descend. The designers explained the slide is a gift to the rail commuters and hope it will create a playful urban area that could generate positive energy in a disadvantaged neighborhood. It is yet to be seen if a queue will form during rush hour, which - ironically enough - would mean the journey may take longer.

Life-Like...Police have been left red-faced after they smashed a window of a car in order to save what they thought was a baby left behind on a hot day – only to discover

that it was a doll. Five-year-old Chanel Cristofis had left the doll in her dad’s car when he dropped her to school. He then parked his car and went to work at the fish and chip shop he owns in Nottinghamshire. A passer-by then reported that they had seen a baby left in a car and officers broke into the car. The intricate Reborn dolls are made to look exactly like real babies and this isn’t the first time Chanel’s doll has caused a stir. Chanel’s mum Victoria said, “A woman in a supermarket saw Chanel shaking it and was horrified. She asked what sort of mother I thought I was to allow my baby to be treated like that. I had to explain to her that it wasn’t real. She didn’t believe me at first then she inspected it and realised it was a doll.”

Kissing Cousins...A society in Germany which advises on etiquette and social behaviour has called for kissing to be banned in the workplace. The Knigge Society says the practice of greeting colleagues and business partners with a kiss on the cheek is uncomfortable for many Germans. The society’s chairman, Hans-Michael Klein, says he has received concerned emails from workers on the issue. He advises people in the workplace to stick to the traditional handshake.

End Of The Line...As the Olympics approach, stressed out Tube commuters battling the crowds in London may like to take a leaf out of Shanghai’s book on how to unwind. Kung fu kicks are being encouraged in Shanghai after installing padded bags at a subway station. The giant bags allow tired, angry or drunk commuters to take out their frustrations on someone other than staff, who usually bear the brunt of bad tempers. Posted above the installations are messages that say: ‘Every year you have to wait on the platform for about 1,824 minutes.” How about a mini Boris Johnson popping up as you swipe your Oyster card?

Save Water...Up to 152 men and women got into their bikinis and swimming trunks to scrub up on Bournemouth beach, bathing their way towards breaking the Guinness World Record. The participants took part in the event, showering down to beat the previous record of 145 people that was set in Chicago, Illinois in 2009. ‘The people have to be applauded for getting into the spirit of the day and taking a shower together,’ said Anna Orford, the official adjudicator for Guinness World Records.

Eiffel Flower...They say you reap what you sow - but Eve Fielding got a bit more than she bargained for when she planted a tiny seed that grew into a 23ft monster sunflower. The grandmother expected the tiny seed to produce a plant of about 3.6m (12ft). But instead she has a 7m (23ft) beast. Ms Fielding said: ‘This is by far the biggest sunflower I’ve ever had. I’ve heard of people talking to their plants to make them grow and I’ve never done that but I have started telling it how well it is doing since it got really big.’

And Finally...Mahatma Gandhi walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little which made him rather frail and, with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him a ‘super calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis’!

LIBRA: Sept 23 - Oct 23 This might not be the best month to try out a new plan. Anything unfamiliar could put pressure on your sensitive system. Friends though may be pulling in two different directions. It could fall to you to explain the costs of a long-running dispute during August. One possibility is that one group is not at all fussy and that another is demanding that a service is provided exactly as was shown in a brochure. Career-wise, you may be very much in the driving seat. You might know exactly what you want by the middle of September and your attention to all this could benefit a close partnership.

SCORPIO: Oct 24 - Nov 22Protecting a project in which you’ve invested could be your top priority. However, this could result in strain between you and close friends who might feel that their interests aren’t being well-served and that you’re not listening to their needs. It might not be your strong point, but at least decisions may need to be made by the end of August. A shopping trip could turn into a marathon. The storage of items that won’t be needed for some time could be another issue. Your attitude to a financial matter might undergo change: possibly prompting you to enter into partnership by September.

SAGITTARIUS: Nov 23 - Dec 21Domestic arrangements may be in a state of flux during August. Neighbours may need your assistance. Though this could be linked to a social event and the upheaval this creates could be considerable. You could feel that there are more chores that require your urgent attention. In fact, there’s a point at which you could feel overwhelmed by the list of all the things that need to be done for September. It’s probable though that a neighbour needs your assistance and only you will do. Further discussions about a place miles and miles away, could also cause you to review your attitude to travel generally.

CAPRICORN: Dec 22 - JAN 19You may need to defend your position. It could be that someone’s unhappy with how you’re running your love-life. Another possibility is that you’re seen as being distracted generally. The cut and thrust of argument could turn you on a little though - especially when you see how much someone needs you on board. You could hit some kind of buffer or the brakes applying during August. It may be that traffic doesn’t move fast enough or that you feel you’ve come as far as you can with a hobby by September.

horoscopes CHRIS ADAMS

AQUARIUS: Jan 20 - Feb 18 A lively discussion at work could prove productive but en route have one or two dodgy moments. At home, you may be under a slightly different race against time for first last two weeks of August. It’s probable that your creative juices are in full to flow. It’s likely too that you may be coping with a younger person being on the move during September. A slight difficulty may involve travel arrangements. Good news could come from someone who tends to go off and do their own thing, but who is now listening to you and following a set of instructions clearly.

PISCES: Feb 19 - Mar 20 Involvement with an educational or research establishment seems likely. You might also spend some of August pouring over the wording of a contract. Your social life could take off and lead to an important new friendship - possibly where there’s an age difference involved. Conversations may be dominated by property matters during September. You might also need to make clear the boundaries between property you own and that which is owned by others. In fact, the whole scene about what’s yours from what belongs to others is set to play loudly.

ARIES: Mar 21 - Apr 20Having reached the conclusion that you can’t complete a task alone, you might need to engage those around you to help out. The need to sink foundations could be literal: perhaps including erecting garden furniture. You might also need to talk tough with a relative who you feel has been taking you for a ride earlier this year. You may enforce the depth of your feelings for someone by choosing a gift that will stand the test of time: which might even mean buying a splendid piece of hand-crafted jewellery this month - you might as easily be inspired to undertake home-craft of your own.

TAURUS: Apr 21 - May 21You may be at the centre of a social hiatus. At least one person might really want you at an event. People you used to study with may be involved. Another possibility is that a friend wants you to join forces in a new study programme before the end of August. It’s perhaps more likely that neighbours will be relying on you to assist them with some sort of homework or DIY project. Having promised a good friend that you’ll go shopping with them, you might not want to let them down. The net result could see you flit from place to place - all the while being chased by texts and calls. It looks like a busy September!

GEMINI: May 22 - Jun 22 You could spend most of the time just travelling during the last two weeks of August. That doesn’t mean you won’t achieve though. In a series of phone calls, and having made a comprehensive list, you could still aid progress. If there is hassle to deal with, then it may be that you have to wait for documents that were supposed to have been prepared and ready for September. Coercing others into following your plans might not be too difficult, if those natural traits of persistence and determination win through. It is possible that from someone from another generation is trying to get a message across.

CANCER: Jun 23 - Jul 22 You might still feel swamped by information during August. Educational matters could give cause for concern. There may be distractions of an administrative nature there too. The good news is that a combined effort could bring together a plan for an event later in the year. However many times you go back over a letter or document, it may be that you’ve already decided how best to deal with an issue. There may still be some weeks yet before you can present your case, - though September’s rehearsals could be important. Preparations for another event might also require careful and diligent attention.LEO: Jul 23 - Aug 23 You could be pulled in different directions by different groups with whom you have association. Of course, you may be attending an event or special occasion arranged by a work colleague. It might also be that a partner will require you to attend an event that involves their work colleagues during the first two weeks of September. The net result of all of this may be that you’re torn in two, wishing you could be cloned and racing from one event to another. Financial or ethically-based discussions may now be taking place. You might need help from a lawyer or well-versed friend. Protecting your interests seems more important than usual. The outline of a deal could be agreed.

VIRGO: Aug 24 - Sep 22You may feel you can’t wait much longer to see real progress. The urge to write a strongly worded letter may be strong. You could shoot yourself in the foot though. Expect others to be talking at you and possibly not listening to your replies. Whilst on the one hand, it might seem that they want positive news, it could be that they enjoy debating issues with you and that you’re not expected to come up with anything particularly magical. Your role in keeping a particular show on the road is likely to be appreciated however - which should boost your feel-good factor for September.
