ALLENs in the USCensus for certain North Carolina counties, 1790-1850 1

My source for these abstracts was the Ancestry.com 1

I have abstracted below all the households headed by people surnamed ALLEN (in all spellings) in[1]

the USCensus for the North Carolina counties of Anson, Iredell, Montgomery, Rowan, and Rutherford, forthe years 1790-1830, and Anson, Lincoln, Montgomery, and Rutherford Cos for 1840. For 1850 I haveabstracted all the households headed by ALLENs in these counties who were born before 1800, and alsoin Stanly County (created in 1841 from Anson). I’ve also abstracted all the ALLENs of JohnstonCo from1790-1840, and the older half of those for 1850, as well as those in Franklin, Wake, and Warren from1790-1800.

For 1850 I have abstracted all the Allens in Anson, Cleveland, Iredell, and Stanly Counties.Certain other households of possible in-laws or friends have been included as well, and this report may

be added to from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the date stamp in the lower right corner ofeach page.

Many of the county census lists have been alphabetized by first letter of surname, destroying evidenceof propinquity, and where this is the case, I have indicated as much in parentheses next to the countyheader. However, in most cases the county lists were batched together (without sorting) from a numberof individual enumerator’s lists which were themselves alphabetized, and for such lists, where differentclusters of ALLENs are separated by more than one census page, it can be presumed that they fell intodifferent districts.
