Allergy in ICD-11 TENTH EDITION, MAY 2019
THE ICD-‐11 HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
Over the last days, the World Health Assembly was held in Geneva, joining members of states and the WHO governance. The ICD-‐11 has been presented by the WHO ICD leadership and has been fully endorsed – the ICD-‐11 was adopted on 25th May 2019!
It has not been an easy path, but now it is real: we have ALLERGY in ICD-‐11!
It has been a long way with full time efforts that we went along together. We would like thank very much all who have been supporting the ALLERGY in ICD-‐11 initiative! Trust, collaboration, aknowlegement and support were essential for achieving this milestone and ensuring a better visibility of the Allergy specialty. However, there is still a long path and we are looking forward to many more years of collaboration! Let’s move forward!
This achievement is the outcome of many years of unwavering efforts of the WHO ICD Team together with the great team of experts, with whom we have the pleasure to work with. CONGRATULATIONS!
The recently designated WHO Collaborating Centre for Classification Scientific Support, as a member of the WHO Family of International Classification (WHO-‐FIC), will play an essential role to ensure a good representation of allergic and hypersensitivity conditions. We count on all our collaborators!
The WHO-‐ FIC will carry on working with the WHO in order
to implement the ICD-‐11 in different countries.
The full adoption of ICD-‐11 is scheduled to 2022!

GIANA THE GLOBAL INITIATIVE AGAINST ANAPHYLAXIS
Anaphylaxis is a killing hypersensitivity and a public health concern. Anaphylaxis
can be used as a model to promote universal health coverage.
In June 2018, the WHO established the Montpellier Collaborating Centre (CC) for Classification Scientific Support. This designation came as recognition for all the work undertaken as part of the ‘Allergy in ICD-‐11' initiative and the CC is intended to provide academic, research and scientific support to the WHO in the implementation, refinement and maintenance of the WHO classifications.
As the only WHO CC for classifications of allergic and hypersensitivity conditions, we also intend to establish close collaboration with national bodies in order to implement actions for better patients’ care, monitor and prevention, developments in research and launch measures in order to reduce avoidable deaths. Besides, to extend these actions internationally with the support of the WHO-‐FIC, academic and scientific networks, the Joint Allergy Academies, stakeholders and patients’ organizations. Our WHO CC will provide the means through which governmental and nongovernmental collaborating parties can combine their strengths to achieve focused objectives, avoiding wasting energy and resources. In this context, we are launching the Global Initiative Against Anaphylaxis (GIANA), which aims to achieve seven main goals in the forthcoming years.
OBJECTIVE)I)(Epidemiology)-
OBJECTIVE)II)(Burden-of-anaphylaxis)-
OBJECTIVE)III)(Research)-
OBJECTIVE)IV)(Health-care-pathways)-
OBJECTIVE)V)(Awareness)-
OBJECTIVE)VI)(Adrenaline-auto=
injectors)-
OBJECTIVE)VII)(Surveillance)-
