This email is to confirm our phone conversation regarding shoring for the concrete placing boom. The required shoring

capacity is 46,300 lbs “in-operation” (36,400 lbs “out-of-operation”) according to the product information you sent on

2/6/14. The number of shoring posts required depends on the capacity of each post. Round up to an even number and

place equal number each side of the pour strip. The posts should run down to the slab-on-grade as the concrete floor

slabs do not have enough capacity even when summed. Align the posts vertically. Do not offset them more than 4”,

say, to prevent punching through the slab.

I just saw your email to Ceco Concrete and agree with the information provided. It is my understanding that you will not

install the placing boom until you reach the 4th

Floor.

Please contact me if you have additional questions.

Hi Mike,

I left a voicemail on your cell this AM. We had a couple of issues with the placing boom I was hoping to get some help

with:

1. The Placing Boom opening was supposed to 41”x41” versus 3’-6”x3’-6”. I had not noticed this previously when

reviewing the drawing, and right now we don’t need anything regarding this item. Just for an FYI.

2. We had some correspondence over the phone back in March about reshoring requirements for the placing

boom. Can you send me the reshoring comments in email, so I can pass along to Ceco?

Hi Mike-

Finally swinging back to this-

See Schwing responses below in red about the placing boom and let me know how this impacts the design.

The slab edges are currently being designed via RFI to be self-supporting cantilevers. We do not yet have the response,

but they will just be made to support the live loads they would carry per S1.0a.

Hello Andrea,

I do know that the floor frames must be supported by all four sides. The other statement that the upper support only

accounts for horizontal HO only, I have to defer that to the Manufacture engineers. My first thought is no, taking into

consideration what the term Moment means. I do believe moment is more than just a horizontal force. I will run this by

Schwing and get back to you.

This email is to summarize our recent phone conversations.

The proposed concrete placing boom location is dead center between Grids G-H/4-5. The total in-operation weight of

the equipment, concrete, and impact is 46,300 lbs according to the information you sent. It is my understanding that

the vertical load, the skewing torsion, and horizontal force Hu is supported at the lower floor frame. The upper floor

frame supports the horizontal force Ho only. Please confirm this with Brundage-Bone. True, plus wind [W] at the upper

floor frame. Summary: Ho & W loads on upper floor frame; Hu, V, & Md loads on lower floor frame.

The floor slabs must be shored to support the concrete placing boom. The worst case scenario is that the slabs are

shored all the way down to Level P4. You mentioned that Swenson Say Faget said the slab adjacent to the pour strip

was not designed as a cantilever to support construction loading. If the slab is reinforced with rebar so it can support

load as a cantilever, the number of levels of shoring could be reduced.

We envision shoring posts with a total capacity of 48,000 lbs at each level. The shoring posts must be aligned vertically

so they do not punch through the slab.

A preliminary sketch is attached showing the concrete placing boom floor frame supported by the slab edges of the pour

strip. The floor frame shown is not supported in the pour strip. We could add a steel beam on these 2 sides. Please ask

Brundage-Bone whether the floor frame may be supported on 2 sides only. I strongly advise 4 sides are constrained for

the floor frames. Independent of the project pour plan, the SPB operator could slew the boom in any 360° slewing

position.

Hi Mike,

We are ready to start getting some engineering and design for our placing boom supports and penetrations. Below is a

description of what we are thinking about doing.

A placing boom will be utilized to pour from Level 2 through the roof deck. The placing boom weighs 18,500 lbs (see

attached Placing Boom Specifications), it imposes loads on the surrounding floor slabs per the attached Load Table, and

it requires a 41"x41" opening per the attached Floor Frame Diagram. The attached Floor Frame Diagram also shows a

10"x10" pipe line hole within 16" of the placing boom opening.

We want to put the placing boom in the pour strip between GL-G and H in the center of the building. It would require

the pour strip to be widened at the location of the mast. We would also want to keep the 10”x10” pipe line blockout out

of the pour strip.

Once you have a chance to get oriented, give me a call and let’s go through before you start designing. I would like to get

this design 100% dialed in by 2/19 so we can get it incorporated in the shop drawings for reinforcing steel and deck

formwork. Let me know how this target works for you.
