Mick’s Retirement
On July 29, 2016 we said farewell to our Chief Financial
Officer of 21 years, Mick McKirahan. Mick’s retirement
was honored with a small gathering of friends and
coworkers at a local steak house. Mick was given some
parting gifts that included, a custom made Allied Con-
crete baseball jersey signed by the office personnel, a
glass award engraved with his credentials and a “Tour
of Duty” shirt that listed all of the company names Allied
and Alleyton have been. Many people joined us in cele-
brating Mick’s tenure and wishing him the best as he
begins his retirement.
Brian Hollrah will succeed Mick as Chief Financial Of-
ficer. Brian came to us from Summit Materials (our par-
ent company) back in November 2015. Brian and Mick
worked together for several months in order to make the
transition as easy as possible. Brian spent 2 years on
the Denver Finance team before relocating to Alleyton
with his family. We are very excited to have Brian on
our team going forward. Congratulations to Mick on his
well deserved retirement!

Outstanding Safety is No Accident at
Aggregate Plants
Aggregate sites have reached an outstanding record for hours of man
hours worked with out a lost time incident. As of July 15th our sites were
at a total of 888,238 hours with out a lost time incident and it is estimated
that we will break 1,000,000 hours by the end of the year. This is an abso-
lutely amazing achievement for our Aggregate operations.
Congratulations to each and every one of our Aggregate employees and
thank you for creating a safety culture we are all proud of. It is important
that in light of these accomplishments we stay vigilant. Complacency has
no place in a safety culture like ours.
Another great achievement during this quarter is that our Aggregate sites
went through MSHA Compliance Inspections. 3 plants received zero cita-
tions and 1 only received one. This is a huge accomplishment and we are
very proud to have such a great group who make safety a priority. So a
special congratulations to:
Monahan– Zero Citations (2nd time in a row)
Altair– Zero Citations
Smith– Zero Citations
Duncan– One Citation

With the lowest rates of turnover, incidents and discipline Plant 6 has an extraordi-nary record of excellence. Some factors were found to be the source of such re-markable metric trends. One factor is leadership. The Plant’s Manager Carlton Downey leads with a respect and understanding that is received well by his employ-ees. Carlton is not the only leader at Plant 6, in fact all employees are empowered to lead each other, hold each other accountable and encourage each other to do bet-ter. Thus, teamwork is another factor that causes this plant to operate so well. There is a sense of comradery between all of the drivers. They joke and laugh with each other, but when it’s time to get to work they are all business. They hold each other accountable for being on time, being safe, and following procedures. There is posi-tivity in the atmosphere at Plant 6, as soon as you walk up to the plant, people smile, wave and welcome you to the plant.
To recognize this plant for their great metrics, positive attitudes and a job well done, they were awarded a delicious BBQ luncheon.
AND WE ROLL!
Customer Service – we’ve all had good and bad experiences; some so bad that we talk
about the experience years later. Why is it we’re more apt to talk about the bad service
versus excellent service? We certainly generate more “likes” on Facebook with a
negative experience, as family and friends share in our pain.
Our company certainly hears more negative than positive regarding service; you’re late,
the material is out of spec, the billing is wrong, etc. . . . To a customer, this is pain.
Customer pain is anything we do that annoys or prevents the customer from doing their
job. A wet load costs time and money and out of spec material can cause delays or
quality issues with the customer’s final product. Identifying customer pain is a sure way
to identify gaps in our systems, processes and customer interactions.
Looking through the eyes of the customer can be enlightening. The “we’ve always
done it this way” mentality can drive customers crazy. If we can be innovative and
improve our business by eliminating customer pain, we will continue to solidify our
reputation and improve customer service. If we don’t, our competition certainly will.
Thanks for all of your hard work in providing our customers top notch service, with your
help we can raise the bar and create a bigger gap between us and the competition.

As part of our efforts to positively impact our community, all Alleyton employees were asked to participate in Operation Backpack. Opera-tion Backpack was a school supply drive hosted by the YMCA and Mattress Firm Foster Kids. We made the backpack drive a little more inter-esting by making it a competition between all of our locations. The location with the highest percent participation would win a luncheon. Our grand total was 54 backpacks, all stuffed to the brim with school supplies and some with little notes of encouragement from our em-ployees. The backpacks were split between the YMCA and Mattress Firm drop off spots. The winner of our challenge was our aggregate site Monahan with 100% participation. We want to thank all employees who helped give these children the tools they need to be successful this school year.
HARD HAT ZONE DRIVER OF THE YEAR
One employee from each Ready Mix location who exemplified safety throughout
2015 was identified and awarded. The winning drivers demonstrated safety in
their daily performance and behavior. They went above and beyond the safety
standards, guidelines and policies. As a company it is our honor to recognize
those who make safety a priority. Each winner received a bonus check, a plaque
and a custom jacket.
