Iowa State University College of Design Hotel, Miami Beach, FL - Interdisciplinary Studio 14 weeks, Spring 2011 The studio project is for a 200-room hotel with related meeting, dining, and recreation facilities on South Beach in Miami, FL. The project follows the development of a number of high profile larger hotels in the area, including the Setai to the south and the W immediately next door to the north of the site. The client needs to compete directly with these projects in terms of amenities and room rates – meaning it is an ultra expensive hotel that must be extremely sophisticated and at the highest end of design. Guestrooms should have full controllable daylight, ocean views preferred, etc. Guestrooms: 168,625 sq. ft. Public Spaces: 68,460 sq. ft Administration: 6,230 sq. ft. Back of House: 28,625 sq. ft. Total: 271,940 sq. ft. In the pursuit of a new hotel experience, and with a constant eye on the importance of showmanship, luxury, and wealth in South Florida, our design revolves around two things: luxury vehicles and the people who love them. From the beautiful cars on display throughout the public spaces, to the vehicle art on the walls of every room, this is the hotel for the automotive enthusiast; and while traditional beachfront hotels tend to take the same boring layouts and orientation, VA N TA G E leaves these ideas at the curb, providing each and every room with both an unobstructed ocean view and full line of sight to the rest of South Beach and downtown Miami in the distance. To see and be seen; a concept not only at the heart of this hotel, but in the mind of every guest who steps out of their car at V A N T A G E . The studio project is for a 200-room hotel with related meeting, dining, and recreation facilities on South Beach in Miami, FL.

Guestrooms: 168,625 sq. ft.Public Spaces: 68,460 sq. ftAdministration: 6,230 sq. ft.Back of House: 28,625 sq. ft.Total: 271,940 sq.

To see and be seen; a concept not only at the heart of this hotel, but in the mind of every guest who steps out of their car at VA N TA G E .

Miami: sun, sand, sex, and the super rich. A place where status is everything, where the cut of your suit and make of your car say everything about you; in South Beach, being seen is the way of life. Symbols of wealth are not only a showcase of one’s interests, but your very identity. Whether a lifetime resident or weekend visitor, Miami offers you the chance to test out a new lifestyle filled with opulence and showmanship, starting with what you drive.

The streets of South Beach are famous as a stage for high-end automobiles; the affluent take every chance to cruise around in their Ferraris and Lamborghinis, grinning at the tourists snapping photos as they roll up to the valet stand. This lifestyle is the driving force behind Vantage, where the importance of being seen is only surpassed by the desire to surround oneself with the highest class of luxury vehicles. From material influences and automotive art selections, to display vehicles and exposed parking throughout, Vantage is the destination where you, and the car, can shift into the spotlight; all you have to do is turn the key.
