March 25, 2018 PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORDS PASSION MARCH 25, 2018 Personal and commu- nity events can change us in ways that can be difficult to explain. Our attitude shifts and we see the world differently, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. A child is born, a president is elected, a relative dies, a na- tional tragedy occurs, the market rises or falls, or an old friend visits and we are changed. Life is different. We adapt, but things are never the same again. When Jesus suffers and dies, life is changed. The Apostles hide in fear. His followers are confused and uncertain. The message of love seems overcome by the power of hate. And no one knows what to expect next. There is little to say or do as the friends and followers of Jesus struggle to make sense of their dashed hopes and shattered lives. For us, the experience of the Passion of Christ is different. We already know the ending. The darkness of confusion and fear will give way to the dawn of Easter light. All the more reason, then, for us to reflect in silent awe of God’s love for us. Jesus willingly suffered for our sake, offering His life for our sins. The only thing we can give in return is a contrite heart, ready and willing to take up our cross and follow Him. The suffering and death of Jesus will bring us life, peace, forgiveness and joy. Life is changed, and we are not the same. PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION MARCH 25, 2018

Personal and commu-nity events can change us in ways that can be

difficult to explain. Our attitude shifts and we see the world differently, sometimes for the better, sometimes not. A child is born, a president is elected, a relative dies, a na-tional tragedy occurs, the market rises or falls, or an old friend visits and we are changed.

St Luke the Evangelist Financial Update

Fellow Parishioners: St. Luke's budget year runs from September 1, 2017 thru August 31, 2018. As we are halfway through, we would like to share with you a brief update on St. Luke's financial position:

Our Parish remains a healthy and vibrant community with strong attendance at Mass, active engagement in our (incredible!) 32+ ministries and 441 students enrolled in our CCD program.

Our bills are fully paid and up-to-date, but our expenses slightly exceeded collections (by 1% or $4,909). We have an appropriate 3+ month rainy day fund in the bank.

Some 82% of our collections came via regular giving programs; 37% of total collections were made through electronic giving programs (via credit cards or direct bank remittances) with the average weekly donation totaling $38. If you are not already doing so, please consider enrolling in the electronic giving program as it helps us more effectively manage our parish finances.

Our Parish continues to both experience and explore the increasingly digital world in which we live: Did you know that 1,850 other St. Luke's parishioners are getting regular electronic updates via Flock Note? Register here: http://bit.ly/2GhGBWc

Your sustained generosity has put our Parish on a solid financial footing, albeit with a modest shortfall. As we look forward to Easter and the warmer weather, know that your efforts and investments in our Parish have yielded a rich spiritual life, and a warm and embracing community in which to celebrate our faith. Thank you for your support of our Parish, and living a generous way of life. With Christ's Blessings, St Luke the Evangelist – Finance Committee

“St. Luke’s donates 10% of its weekly collection through Sharing First . We donate to others be-fore attending to our own wants. Sharing First is unique not only because there is one

collection each week, but that we help the needy first. Please adjust your donation to include both Sharing First and St. Luke’s. Thank you for your generous support.

MARCH 18 supports CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES in the amount of $1130 MARCH 25 supports (TODAY) THEMUSTARD SEED SOUP KITCHEN MARCH 25 SUPPORTS AFFORDABLE HOUSING

Families in need face many financial hurdles every month just to get by. One of their top concerns is finding affordable housing. Because there is limited subsidized apartments in Westborough, families often wait years for a unit to become available. When possible, St Luke's Parish Outreach is able to help families navigate through the housing process. This involves assistance with application forms, writing letters of recommenda-tion to landlords, helping to negotiate a rental lease and working closely with the Westborough Housing Au-thority. We realize that having a strong advocate is always helpful, especially if English is a second language.

PALM SUNDAY “Pilate again said to them, ‘Then what shall I do with the man whom you call the King of the Jews?’ And they cried out again, ‘Crucify him.’” (MARK 15:12-13)

Jesus told us “whatever you do for the least of my broth-ers, you do for me.” Every day we are presented oppor-tunities to help someone. Every day we have the oppor-tunity to see the face of Jesus in others and be the face of Jesus to others. Pray for the strength and courage to stand up for those in need of our help..
