Spring 2010 Greetings Alumni! Brother Brandon Michael Basehore, President  Newsletter    National Officers: President [email protected] Herald [email protected] Corresponding Michaelrogewitz @yahoo.com Recording  [email protected] Treasurer [email protected] Hello to all Theta Delta Chi and Delta Sigma Chi Alumni from Virginia Tech! My name is Brandon Basehore and I am the newly elected President of the Nu Triton charge. I know it has been a while since you have heard from your active members so we want  to try and get back in touch with as many alumni as possible. I wanted to inform the alumni of some things happening with the fraternity so that we can once again establish a relationship  between actives and alumni! In the past few years we have been growing in numbers and we have we have finally reached 20 members once again! I can honestly say that when I became a brother in the Spring of 2008 I wasn’t sure if we would get to this number again. Over the  past two years we have been working to bring back the Theta Delt tradition. There is a strong brotherhood still present here at Virginia Tech and we’re looking to add more valuable members each year. This semester we were fortunate to get a couple  brothers back at school and we are hoping to have a very  productive semester and year. Last year was a very productive year in community service for Theta Delta Chi. In the spring we donated over $500 towards Delta Gamma’s Anchorsplash Philanthropy and are  participating in the event again this year. In the fall Team Theta Delta Chi donated $2500 to the Virginia Tech Relay for Life! This semester we are hosting the First Annual TDX Dodgeball tournament to support our national philanthropy that goes to benefit autism  patients. Thanks to Mr. John Winter, of Delta Sigma Chi, we were fortunate to find the George Kelly Martin Memorial fund that was still held at the college. I know many of you helped to raise money for this scholarship many years ago and we were very surprised to hear about it. We are hoping to get the scholarship established once again because it is a great way to remember one of our fallen brothers. If you have any other alumni contact information that could help us please send an email to either myself or Mike Rogewitz. It has been too long since the active brothers have  been in contact with all of the alumni! I’m hoping this newsletter will help us find some  brothers that have been temporarily lost in time. Look forward to seeing some major changes Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope I’ll hear from you soon! Brandon M. Basehore, President

Spring 2010

Treasurer ’s Report:

Ways and Means:

Our spring semester begins off with the collection of dues, which arecurrently 400 dollars a brother. With an ever-increasingly difficulteconomy, the difficulty involved in collecting dues has also

increased. The dues that immediately come in will go to the insurancethat we currently have to pay for each brother, the new Theta DeltaChi handbooks (which are now mandatory to purchase), composites, and the rush budget. These expenses total in over $3,000. After theseexpenses are paid for, the rest of the money from dues can be used for extracurricular activities as well as other various events. Not having ahouse is also saving the fraternity money, which is being recycled back into our budget. As the new treasurer this semester, I aim tokeep our fraternity on top of bills so that we don't get back loggedinto next semester when we move into the new house.

Ryan FahsTreasurer

This semester ways and means is off to an early start with the purchase of a breathalyzer. With this breathalyzer some of the brothers will sit outside of the bars in Blacksburg andcharge people a dollar a test. At tech people have been able to make around 300 to 400 dollarsa night, which would be a great bonus to add to our budget. We’re hoping this breathalyzer will help to pay for insurance and other various bills that will arise in the near future. Also thefraternity will be having a first-annual alumni golf tournament in Blacksburg, which will alsohelp benefit the fraternity’s ever-increasing budget. This semester were hoping to see an

increase in the frat’s budget due to the increased motivation we continue to put forth to add toour brotherhood’s money-making capabilities.

Spring 2010

House Chair:

Philanthropy:

Social:

After getting rid of 301 Giles, the fraternity isstill doing well. Social functions have beenspread out to all brothers’ apartments and homes, bringing the brotherhood closer together. Justrecently, three brothers have signed a lease on asix-bedroom house on Tom’s Creek road thatwill serve as the new TDX house. This locationis across 460, perfectly close enough to thevillage and other apartments, yet far enough outof the way to not have to worry about noiseviolations. Also, the cost of rent is low enough toallow two rooms to be vacant, with 4 brothersliving in the house at an affordable rate. Thereare practically no neighbors, giving us hopes of rush bon fires and live bands next year. Themove in date is the 18th of June, after which weencourage any of you to come visit and see for yourselves the great new foundation this newlocation will provide for Nu Triton.

Michael Rogewitz,House Chair

Without a house, social events have been spread

out to other brothers’ residences. Since we are asmaller fraternity, we are currently havingsocials with the women’s field hockey team. Theteam has 25 girls and we have 20 brothers so thisworks out nicely. We also plan on teaming-upwith a bigger fraternity to have a social with oneof the big sororities this semester. Though thenumber of socials we have had this year hasdecreased, that will soon change the followingsemester in the new TDX house. Social eventswill posted on our website, and we welcome any

of you to join us at any of them.

Jake Waddell,Social Chair

This semester we were very fortunate to

receive a brother who transferred from Williamand Mary and is experienced in hosting philanthropies. With his help, we are currentlyin the process of hosting a TDX dodge balltournament to benefit autism. We plan to makethis an annual event that will help get our letters more recognized amongst the Greek community, as well as provide a way for TDXto help a good cause. We are buying T-shirtsfrom William and Mary’s past dodge balltournament at a discounted price that will also be given out at the event.Over the Spring the fraternity will once again be participating in Relay for Life. During thistime, we will be raising money for our team, aswell as participating in other various events. This event is a great way to bring the brotherhood together and this year we plan on beating last year’s record of $2,500. We willalso be getting you all more involved in theRelay this year and invite any of you to comeout for the event!

As soon as I became involved in TDX, I instantly knew Iwanted the pledgemaster job, and I'm very excited to fieldanother strong pledge class in a year that we are between

houses. The main issue I plan to focus on in my position isacademic performance. As a historic national fraternity, it ismportant to emphasize the legacy of excellence that we are

passing on to our pledges, and at the top of that list isgrades. As an organization of students and former students,we realize that while the bonds of brotherhood extend far beyond our time in school, we need to maintain certainacademic standards while we are here. I have the easiestschedule of my college career this semester (only 12 credithours), and I plan to use this extra time to help our new cropof pledges to get through the process with flying colors not

only in the eyes of the university, but by the much higher standards that we as Theta Delts expect of our own.
