Reasons to Read Alphabet Books …to examine the names and shapes of each of the letters …to point and name the objects you see …to investigate information about one topic …to solve puzzles …to explore rhymes, new vocabulary and alliteration …to discover the world, both locally and globally …to interact with different languages …for fun! Types of Alphabet Books: Word-picture Word-picture books contain one clear picture per letter; often with unusual choices associated with each letter. Simple narrative Simple narrative books contain rhyming or poetic text. Riddles and puzzles Pages in these types of books invite children to find objects on the page, or predict what they think will appear on the next page. Theme or topic These types of books have a common theme or topic woven throughout the book.
