WHY IDENTIFYHB07-1244 now requires all 57
administrative units in Colorado to adopt and implement a program plan to identify and serve gifted
children.
Exceptional Children’s Act requires that administrative units program
for, and be accountable for exceptional children including
gifted and talented, limited English proficient, and special education.

HOW IS MY CHILD IDENTIFIED FOR AN ALP?
ADVANCED LEARNING PLAN
Once a child has been identified as gifted, an Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) is created that houses the student’s qualifying data as well as a profile of strengths. The ALP is used as a document for guiding advanced programming decisions, accountability, and articulation. It records student’s strengths, goals, and progress towards goals each year the student is in Jeffco.
WHAT COMMUNICATION CAN I EXPECT?
HOW DO I SUPPORT MY STUDENT’S ALP AT HOME?• Many competition opportunities (DI, Math
Olympiad, Writing contests)• KHAN Academy• Leadership through outside organizations (Boy
Scouts, Church, Community Service, Sports)• Museums, Library, Community center classes• Super Saturdays • School clubs/sports• Volunteer opportunities• Passion Projects• Support interests and strengths!
ADVANCED LEARNING PLANSFOR SECONDARY STUDENTS
JEFFCO has combined student Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs)
with the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP)
using the tool, NAVIANCE
WHY BLEND ALPS AND ICAP?
• Requirements can be met in a single portfolio
• ALPs become a meaningful document for students
HOW DOES IT WORK IN JEFFCO?
• ALP Lifecycle will be initiated at the beginning of each school year and closed at the end of each school year
• Students in grades 6 (Mtn Area, Deer Creek and Bell) -12 log into their Naviance Account and take four Jeffco ALP Surveys following the Jeffco Secondary Lifecycle
IMPLEMENTING THE SECONDARY ALP LIFECYCLE
SECONDARY ALPS….. STUDENT-CENTERED FOCUS
Shifts primary responsibility for goals from teachers/counselors to students
Students…•Develop a SMART Goal• Focus on affective needs• Implement a plan to meet goal• Advocate for needs and seek support
NAVIANCE
The individual student goal will be documented in Naviance, a planning guide which includes ALP information. Parents are encouraged to view student goals through their student’s access to Naviance by going to the website https://connection.naviance.com/fclookup.php
