The Second Rule of Medicine“Primum Non Nocere” - First, Do No Harm

This Latin phrase has become one of the basic principles taught to students of thehealing arts around the world. It is often called the “First Rule of Medicine”. The concept began with Hippocrates although he didn’t say it quite that way. WhatHippocrates actually saidwas : "Declare thepast, diagnosethepresent, foretell thefuture;practice these acts. As to diseases, make a habit of two things - to help, or at least to do noharm”. (Epidemics, Bk. I, Sect. XI.)

Through many years and many translations it has become a popular saying thatreminds practitioners of every healing discipline to consider the possible harm that anyintervention, therapy or surgery might do to those who come to them for care. Thisaphorism is often repeated when considering the use of a medical therapy that carries anobvious risk of harm along with a less certain chance of benefit.

Taking a careful look at Hippocrates’ famous phrase however, another great truththat is rarelymentioned becomes clear - and that is “to help”. Clearly there must beacorollary to thefirst rule of medicine- and that is of course the “Second Rule of Medicine”

“Second, Do Some Good”

An excellent example of this is when doctors have to consider their options whentreating a patient that has been diagnosed with cancer. The conventional treatments includeany or a combination of chemotherapy, X-ray therapy, or some form of surgery, all of whichhave their own risks.

Most of the conventional chemotherapy drugs are quite powerful and carrysubstantial toxicities. Doctors feel they must usethem for their therapeutic benefit, yet theyalso carry the risk of unpleasant and dangerous side-effects.There are many viable options for treating patients who are living with cancer that areconsiderably safer. Two are called “Insulin Potentiation Therapy”, (or IPT), and OxidativeMedicine.

Insulin Potentiation Therapy

IPT is a medical technique that is used to administer chemotherapy drugs in muchlower doses than are customary. IPT actually helps the medications to target cancer cellsdirectly and selectively, while at the same time leaving the rest of the body relativelyunharmed. IPT allows patients to receive the therapeutic benefit of chemotherapymedications without having to undergo the many unpleasant and often unsafe side-effectsof standard medical chemotherapy. There are only a few hundred doctors around the world that are trained and qualified to administer chemotherapy using the IPT technique.

Oxidative Medicine

“Oxidation” is name of process that chemically transforms the foods we eat intoenergy that the body can use. This is also known as aerobic metabolism, which means usingoxygen. Sometimes when certain cells that make up our body’s organs become overwhelmed

with accumulated toxins they become unable to “burn” foods to make energy we need forhealth. Then the cells transform from healthy, aerobic metabolism to an unhealthymetabolism called anaerobic metabolism, meaning not using oxygen, and that is whatcharacterizes cancer.

Oxidative Medicine refers to a number of treatment techniques that are designed tohelp restore the natural process of healthy oxidation at the cellular level. These usuallyinclude intravenous therapies such as Ozone and high-dose Vitamin C, and deep-downrelease and flushing of toxins using homeopathic medicines. Other forms of “hands-on”energy healing also improve the body’s ability to maintain our natural energy flow.Oxidative Medicine therapies are completely natural and have no hidden toxicities orside-effects.

There are seven “R‘s” that are basic to every program that we design for ourpatients:

< Reduce - the body’s burden of toxins that accumulate over time. Examplesinclude mercury from dental fillings, chemicals used as preservatives in foods we eatand pesticides used to grow them, and multiple pollutants in the air we breathe.

< Repair - damage that may have already been done. Heal and strengthen organsand systems so that the body is better able to hold and maintain healthimprovements.

< Replenish - nutrients, minerals, and organic vitamin/mineral complexes. Dietarymodifications toward more natural, whole foods are an important part ofnutritional replenishment.

< Restore - the harmonious balance of mind, body and emotions.

< Reverse - the reasons the body allowed cancer to grow in the first place.

< Replace - darkness, heartache and sorrow with Love, Light and Forgiveness.

< Rebalance - the energy systems of the body.

Treating the mind and body naturally along with restoring the body’s health from theinside-out is an excellent example of “Second, Do Some Good”.
