    ALTERNATIVE ECONOMIES RESOURCE GUIDE

New York City, edition 1, Fall 2012

This list has been compiled collaboratively by members o the OWSArts & Labor Alternative Economies group to increase the visibilityo and access to existing cooperatively-owned resources and alter-native networks available to our community.

Arts & Labor is a working group ounded in conjunction with the

New York General Assembly or #occupywallstreet. We are artistsand interns, writers and educators, art handlers and designers, administrators, curators, assistants, and students. We are all artworkers and members o the 99%.

Arts & Labor is dedicated to exposing and rectiying economic in-

equalities and exploitative working conditions in our elds throughdirect action and educational initiatives. By orging coalitions, ghting or air labor practices, and reimagining the structures andinstitutions that rame our work, Arts & Labor aims to achieve par-ity or every member o the 99%.

The Alternative Economies subgroup o OWS Arts & Labor exploresnew methods or sustaining the livelihood o artists, art workers, and other low-income populations. We view the concept o laborthrough the lenses o time, choice, and value, and we research theways in which ideas such as the commons, solidarity economies, precarious worker centers, and participatory budgeting can nurturemore sustainable art worlds. Believing that vibrant creative com-

munities come rom the bottom up, we encourage relationshipsbased on mutual aid rather than competition, and we advocate orcultural institutions rooted in a ramework o social, economic, andenvironmental justice.
