Altro fl ooring must be installed by a professional fl ooring installer that has attended an Altro
training clinic. Installation procedures available at altrofl oors.com/downloads, training clinic
information at altrofl oors.com/training. Proper care of Altro fl ooring is critical. Please consult our
cleaning procedures available at altrofl oors.com/downloads. Failure to install and/or maintain
correctly could void the warranty.
StainingCertain chemicals may cause staining of vinyl fl ooring. Traffi c stains may be caused by asphalt
and rubber products, like rubber mats. Please conduct stain test before installation.

Develop a regular cleaning program suited to the usage and traffic of the
area - Heavily trafficked, high visibility areas, or in areas where staining
agents are to be used (salons, labs) your flooring will need to be cleaned
more often. It will also perform better, in these areas, using the preferred
maintenance with finish program and opting to add additional protective
finish coats as needed. Additionally, it is also important to remove rubber
sole scuffs regularly, whether by hand or with mechanical scrubber.
Use recommended cleaning chemicals - Use only preferred cleaning
products. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions including the correct
dilution ratio. Always spot check the suitability of cleaners on floors prior
to initial maintenance. Do not mix two different cleaning liquids together.
Do not use cleaner containing pine oil or phenolic sanitizer.
Remove scuff marks regularly - Scratching, scuffing, and gouging is
a natural occurrence on all floors. It can be reduced with proper and
adequate furniture rests and chair feet, proper maintenance, maintaining
with finish, adequate dirt control and correct color selection.
Protect newly installed floors - All newly laid floor surfaces should be
covered and protected from other trades during construction with a
suitable non-staining, non-taped, protective covering.
Dirt control - A suitable dirt excluder outside all entrances and an
entry mat will help protect flooring. Mats should be regularly cleaned to
maintain their effectiveness.
Color selection - The importance of color selection cannot be overstated.
Careful consideration must be given before choosing a color.
• Light colors will show more dirt and sole scuffs.
• Dark colors will show more scratching and abrasion.
• Medium tones are best in high traffic areas.
• Maintain light and dark colors using the preferred maintenance with
finish protocols.
Some materials are known to cause staining on vinyl floors. Typical examples include:
• Asphalt and bitumen materials
• Cardboard / hardboard (wet)
• Some fire-retardant treatments used on carpets
• Dyes from printed literature or packaging
• Rubber-backed carpets and rubber mats
• Rubber furniture rests and wheels
• Shoe soles not made from non-staining materials
• Heat degradation
• Some chemicals used in cleaners (e.g. pine oil) and disinfectants
Initial maintenance Note: Do not begin any maintenance procedure until all adhesives have
set (excluding Altro XpressLay and loose lay floors that do not require
the use of adhesive), generally 72 hours after the completion of the
installation.
1. Thoroughly sweep or vacuum the flooring to remove loose dust
and debris.
2. Prepare cleaning solution with fresh, warm water and AltroClean 44.
A dilution rate of 1:40 (or up to 1:10 for heavy soiling) may be used.
AVOID FLOODING THE FLOOR.
3. Scrub the floor with a standard low-speed swing machine (150rpm
– 350 rpm) fitted with an Altro Unipad or manually with a brush fitted
with a square Altro Unipad. Alternatively an Auto Scrubber (3 in 1
machine) fitted with an Altro UniPad can be used.
4. Thoroughly rinse the floor with fresh, clean water and remove wash
water with a wet vac. No cleaning residue should remain. Allow
surface to dry thoroughly before use.
5. Apply 2 coats of sealer to the floor. This will seal the tile joints and
only needs to occur once.
Altro recommends an optional finish for continued
maintenance of Altro Dolce, Altro Dolce Essentials and
Altro Quartz Tile. If you are not applying finish, initial
maintenance ends here.
6. Apply finish to floor depending on product recommendations:
Altro Dolce, Altro Dolce Essentials 2 coats
Altro Quartz Tile *0-2 coats
*finish is optional but preferred on Altro Quartz Tile
7. Allow finish to become dry to the touch (45-60 minutes) in-between

Conditions and requirements
• Concrete floors shall be constructed in accordance with the
American Concrete Institute (ACI) 302.1R-04 Guide for Concrete
Floor and Slab Construction and ACI 302.2R-06 Guide for
Concrete Slabs that Receive Moisture Sensitive Flooring Materials.
Please consult www.concrete.org for the most current editions of
ACI’s.
• Floors must be finished and cured according to ACI with a
minimum compressive strength of 3500 psi.
• Floors must be clean, dry and smooth. Any surface materials,
such as paint, wax, grease, oil, adhesive residues, etc. must be
mechanically removed.
• Floors must be free of any sealers, curing, hardening or parting
compounds that would adversely affect the adhesive used with the
flooring.
• A moisture barrier shall be installed prior to pouring of on or
below grade slabs. All on-grade and below-grade concrete slabs
regardless of the concretes age must have an effective moisture
vapor barrier/retarder present under them; if a fully intact non-
damaged vapor retarder cannot be confirmed then the concrete
must be treated as if it will get wet from ground moisture at a future
time.
• When a sub-slab vapor barrier/retarder cannot be confirmed it is
required to install a surface applied moisture barrier system.
Moisture reduction barriers
While Altro does not approve any specific MRBs we do recognize the
need for them in certain circumstances.
There are no known incompatibility issues with Altro floor coverings,
their adhesives, and the many types of moisture reduction barriers
available, however final determination of a particular product’s suit-
ability and its warranties as regards to the performance of the moisture
reduction system and/or any damage that may be caused to the Altro
floor coverings and their adhesives due to deficiencies in the moisture
reduction system are the responsibility of the moisture reduction
system, manufacturer, and installer.
• Always conduct moisture tests per ASTM F-2170 on all concrete
slabs regardless of age or grade level. ASTM F-2170 relative
humidity (RH) test results must not exceed 90% when using EcoFix
25E or 95% when using EcoFix 65 Spray. As a general rule, a
4” thick slab will require a minimum 3-month drying time before
performing moisture tests. Test results are only indicators of current
moisture conditions at the time of testing and do not predict future
moisture conditions.
• Concrete surface pH must be tested in several locations and be
below a pH of 9.9.
• Wood floors must be double layer construction with a minimum
thickness of 1”. The top layer shall be APA Underlayment Grade
Plywood or other wood underlayment panel approved and war-
ranted beneath resilient flooring. Consult with the underlayment
manufacturer for specific recommendations and warranties.
• Maintain room temperature, adhesive and flooring material at
68° F – 80° F (20C – 26C) for 72 hours before, during and after
installation.
Preparation
• The existing subfloor should be mechanically abraded to remove
any paint, wax, grease, oil, plaster, sealers, curing compounds and
other foreign materials that may be present from the construction
process.
