Alumni Admissions into Colleges/Universities:

Our Grade 12 students (Batch of 2016-17) have cracked some of the most difficult entrance exams for Economics, law, architecture, design, engineering, medical & dental streams and gained admission into prestigious colleges both in India and abroad. Inter- School Events

1. Scholar’s Cup –The global round of World Scholars Cup 2017 was held in Athens, Greece

from 19th to 23rd July. The global curriculum explored the theme of an “Unlikely World”,

spanning across subjects like Science, Music, Literature and Social Studies through

debate, quiz, essay writing and MCQ contests. The event witnessed participation by over

300 teams from 41 countries.

The team comprising AniketSanghi, Neha Sharon Jacob and Aditi Koul from Grade 11

bagged the 1st Place in South- Asia and 4th position overall. The team stood 1st in the

Scholars Bowl, a quiz event. Aditi Koul won a trophy for the 10th Best Scholar in the MCQ

round. They were showered with several individual gold and silver medals for their

stupendous achievements. By qualifying for the ‘Tournament of Champions’ at Yale

University, they have added yet another feather in the NPSK cap. Kudos to the young

achievers!

ACHIEVEMENTS

2. Youngest Innovators Award - 3 M India in collaboration with CII provided a platform for

young adults between the ages of 18 to 32 to put across practical, innovative ideas that

have the potential of bringing about social change across the country. ‘Empower - a NPSK

initiative’, found its way among 350 projects from across the country to receive a special

commendation. At a summit held on 13th July 2017, our students Tanvi Desai, Anvita

Nigam and KanikaMittalfrom Grade 12 received the ‘Youngest Innovators Award’, a

special award and the team was felicitated with cash prize of Rs 20,000, for their program

Teach power. The team, unfortunately, could not make it to the finals due to age

constraint. It was nevertheless an amazing initiative and learning experience.

3. HMUN - The Harvard International Relations Council selected and invited Muhammad

AamirAnees of Grade 12 B to serve as Assistant Director for the Constituent Assembly of

Myanmar Committee at the Harvard Model United Nations Conference China 2017. It was

organized in Beijing between 16th and 19th March, 2017. The conference welcomed

delegates from various countries across the world to discuss several pressing

international issues-a ‘truly enriching and rewarding experience’’.

4. Held on 26th July, the Presidency Challenge witnessed 200 plus schools from across India

battling with great passion coupled with immense talent in various events. In Your Big

Idea Challenge participants faced several rigorous rounds of interviews while presenting

their respective ideas. A business proposal-an application that motivates students to take

tests, thereby solving problems faced by students in day to day life- put forth by Karan

Khanna and Meera Harish from Grade 12 was adjudged the Best Idea of the event. They

received a rolling trophy, novels and a tab each.

5. Catch Them young( CTY) by Infosys : With the aim of exposing youth to the World of

Information Technology, Infosys conducts CTY every year, for students from Grade 8

going to Grade 9, across Bangalore. 6 of our students (currently in Grade 9 ) -Vinayaka. M,

Pragya Gupta, SanatKurughanti, Rudraksh Gulati, A.Vishwajeet and A.P.

Vaideeswaranmade it to the summer training workshop held in April 2017 at Infosys. Only

40 students from across the city are selected for this prestigious program.

6. CBSE Cryptic Crossword Contest (CCCC) is a prestigious inter-school, National Level

contest open to students of grades 9 to 12. 34 schools from across Karnataka

participated in the Regional Round conducted in our school on 29th July 2017. NPS-

Koramangala walked away with the Winners & the Runners- up trophies! The winners-

Aditi Koul (11B) and RidaShafeek (12 A) -completed the 1 hour written round of the

cryptic crossword in a record time of just 7 minutes , while the Runners- up team

comprising Abhinav Menon and PrarthanaBalakrishnan of 10 A completed the crossword

in 17 minutes. Aditi Koul and RidaShafeek will represent our school at the National Level

scheduled for the month of December 2017 in Delhi.

7. Computer Society of India (CSI) encourages in school children, problem solving and

Programming talents with speed, accuracy and team co-ordination in a competitive

environment. To achieve this, CSI works with SEARCC (South East Asia Regional Computer

Confederation) towards conduct of an International Schools’ Software Competition (ISSC)

every year at one of the SEARCC countries. To select Indian teams for the International

event, they conduct programming competitions among teams from schools across India

in a two step process consisting of Regional and National level selections. The Regional

Level competition in Bangalore was of two hours duration, consisting of 4 problems using

one of the Programming languages, viz., C or C++ or Java. The team comprising

Chinmay.S.I,,Chinmay Mahesh and SiddharthGautam of 12A cleared the Regional Level

and were selected for the National Level which was conducted on 6th August in Chennai.

They were placed 4th at the National Level.

8. The commerce fest Resurgence was held on 7th July at the Bishop Cotton Boy`s School.

Around 900 students from32 schools participated in the event. Our students secured the 3rd position in the overallrankings. The winners who brought home laurels are:

The team consisting of Meera Harish, Karan Khanna, Nikita Nachnaniand Rishab Nair

from Grade 12 were victorious in‘Corporate Warfare’.

The Game of export and import ‘Impex’ saw Advait Kulkarni, Saiguru (Grade 12) and

Ubaidullah (Grade11) emerge winners.

PrithikaRamaiyerand Rahul Bhattacharya (Grade 12) bagged 2nd Place in Shark Tank.

9. NPS HSR MUN – was conducted on the 21st and 22nd of July 2017. The conference

comprised more than 180 delegates from 20 schools. The NPS KRM delegation consisted

of 9 members. Niveditha S Iyer (10C) won Honorable Delegate representing Satya Nadella

at the World Economic Forum and Shubhangi BK (10C) was awarded Honorable Delegate

as the representative of Iraq in DISEC

10. The preliminary round of War of Wordswas held on 22nd July, where participants went

through a 3 round selection process comprising an extempore, a interview and a group

discussion. Advaith Suresh from Grade 10 was among the eight participants, from among

30 contenders, who made it to the Finals held at NIIMHANS Convention Hall, on the 26th

of July, 2017. He received a Memento and Scholastic book.

11. SishuGriha MUN-was conducted between the 27th and 29th of July 2017. The 3 day

conference saw 200 delegates from 15 schools enthusiastically participate in various

committees. We had sent a delegation of 8 members. SankalpKundu (10B) won

Honorable Delegate (2nd Place) representing the Republic of Italy in DISEC and Dhruv

Gopal (10C) received a Special Mention as the delegate of Italy in ECOSOC.

12. Inceptra, a Commerce fest was conducted on 28th of July, at NPS, HSR. 8 schools

participated in the fest. Students from grades 11 and 12 represented our school and we

were placed second overall. The various winners are as follows:

In the Fashion Show ‘Exroza’, our team comprising Karan Khanna, Anvita Nigam,

TaarusshWadhwa, Sanskriti S, EbbaniLenkafrom Grade 12 and Siddhant Sharma,

PalakPariawala, Himanshi Gupta from Grade 11 stood first.

Meera Harish and Rahul Bhattacharya from Grade 12 were crowned winners in

Elevator Pitch (Shark Tank)

In the Mock Stock event ‘ Toros’, the team consisting of Nikita Nachnani, Saiguru S

and ManasMinoorfrom Grade 12 won the coveted first place.

‘Avant Garde’ - a journalism, marketing and photography event saw Chandana Satish,

MaithreeVenkatesan and Maitreyi Kale from Grade 12 walk away with the second

place.

In ‘Rock it like Rockefeller ‘, the team comprising Advait Kulkarni(Grade 12) ,

AmanSingla and Aditya Mishra (Grade 11) bagged the third position.

13. Small Hand Big Art Foundation’, in collaboration with Lalit Kala Akademiand JJ Institute of

Applied Art organized the Annual Art Olympiad 2016-17 . HarshaaMahapatra from Grade

10, KurchiMitra from Grade 11 and Pragya Gupta from Grade 9 won prizes in their

respective categories. Each of them was awarded a certificate and cash prize of Rs 2,000

for their paintings. Pragya Gupta received Rs 4000 since 2 of her paintings were selected.

Their works were displayed at the renowned JJ Institute of Applied Art Mumbai, on the

27th and 28th May 2017.

14. ASKQUANCE - On 30th July 2017, Karnataka Quiz Association, conducted a quiz at the

Institute of Agricultural Technologies, Bangalore. In the High School Category Athul M.S

and Shashank Jayant, Grade 9 came third from among 40 teams. They won certificates and

cash awards of Rs.500 each. In the Middle School Category for Grades 5-7, Rishi Rajesh

and SpandanShee of Grade 5 put up a great challenge to all finalists, in a 3 round gruelling

session. The duo received gift vouchers.

15. Deccan Herald Quiz: was conducted at Bal Bhavan Auditorium on the 26th of July 2017.

There were 50 teams from schools all around Bangalore. Nikita Kiran and PradyunGoelof

Grade 8 were placed third in the senior category winning a gift voucher of Rs.300

Sindhi School Basket Ball Tournament for U-14 Boys and Girls was held between 20th

and 22nd July. 16 schools participated in the tournament in which the NPS KRM, Boys’

Team comprising Ruchit D, Abhinav S, Avi V, Samarth P, Rohan N, Pradyun G, Aadit C,

Aditya M, PrithviKochar, Vedansh Pandey, Saarang S, and Priyam R emerged winners.

Aditya Raj of Grade 8 won the Boys Under 17 won the Mekhala Subedar Squash

Tournament conducted in DayanandSagar University on 31st July.

SPORTS

A friendly Basket Ball Tournament between NPS HSR and NPS KRM for

both boys and girls was held at NPS HSR on 29th July. A short pre match

orientation was conducted by our Sports Teachers to explain the nuances

of the game.

Where there is a will there is ALWAYS a way! If children decide to achieve something no

force on earth can stop them! This is the moral of the story, scripted & directed by the

zany yet determined students of NPS-Koramangala, tilted ‘A Newspaper Collection Drive

Like None Other’whichwas held in school between the 10th July and the 17th of July. Being

an inter-house event, students enthusiastically (almost to the point of craziness!!!!)

brought in as much paper as they could, to carry their respective Houses to victory. With

close to 17 tons collected, the event was a resounding success, to say the least. For more

than a week the corridors and grounds of NPSK were overflowing with newspaper

bundles and piles of magazines. Cartloads of newspapers were brought to school each

day in SUVs and suitcases as the students vied to outdo each other! The Explorers bagged

the top spot with a contribution of 5.47 tons, closely followed by the Challengers with 5.07

tons The Voyagers were in the third spot with 3.83 tons followed by the Pioneers with 2.4

tons. The amount of Rs 1.39 lakhs raised through the initiative will be used to help

underprivileged kids as part of the TAGE(Towards a Greener Environment) and STRIVE

benefits.

Students for Students (SFS) In order topromote education, empathy, and awareness

among children SFS was started in the month of July as an experiential venture for a few

students of Grades 7 & 8. The programme involves a sustained, continual and multi-year

interaction between the students of our school and those from across different socio-

economic backgrounds in a government school identified for the purpose. Our Grade 7

students will be guiding Grade 3 students while our Grade 8 students will be mentoring

Grade 4 students of the government school. We are certain that it will be a two way

learning process with our children gaining as much if not more from this unique

interaction!

MAJOR EVENTS

Bon Appétit -Montessori dedicated the month of July to ‘Food’. The first week was

devoted to fruits where teachers showed the little ones various physical features of a

fruit like skin, seed and pulp. Children even made a scrumptious fruit salad. The second

week was dedicated to vegetables and their segregation into different categories such as

root vegetables, leafy vegetables or creepers. The theme was further extended to the

topic of healthy food. Concepts were reinforced through a picture sorting activity and a

game of snake and ladder on food.

The IT Company, Cisco Systems, conducts an annual talent outreach program for students

of Grade 11 to give them hands on experience in the field of IT development. A team of

six students are required to work on a project in collaboration with a group of technical

mentors from Cisco. The project commenced on the 13th of July with an on-campus

orientation, tour and detailed project discussion with the mentors. The team comprising

AniketSanghi, Ayush Agarwal, Aditya Naidu, Rajdeep Nag, Rajat Agarwal and Kaustubh Roy

of Grade 11 will work with the Cisco mentors on their finalized idea for a period of six

months.

ColourDay: KG 1 celebrated Colour Day on 15th July 2017, with the little ones dressed in

colourful dresses of their choice. The day commenced with a prayer followed by a catchy

tune on colours sung in chorus. The little darlings stood in small groups next to paper

flowers that matched the colour of their dresses and enthusiastically sang a few lines in

praise of the particular colour. The paper flowers had been created by the KG1 children

in the week leading up to Colour day using various methods like sponge painting, cotton

dabbing, tissue dabbing, bubble painting etc. Later, the children enjoyed sharing colourful

snacks lovingly provided by their parents. The concept of colours was further reinforced

through a game of Bingo and Four Corners. The day came to a colourful end with the

little ones returning home , sunny smiles spread across their faces and special motifs

pinned on their dresses!

I Know Myself - 28th July saw the culmination of the EVS topic ‘Myself’ for the students of

KG2. Children were asked to speak on one of the five sense organs or on any one of the

internal organs (brain, lungs, stomach or heart). They were dressed in tailor made

costumes that perfectly blended with their headgears and props and delivered their lines

with poise and confidence. The day came to an end with a game on sense organs which

the children thoroughly enjoyed. Yes! I know myself was the catch phrase of the day.

Orientation Programme for Montessori: An orientation program was conducted for the

parents of ‘Seniors’ in the Montessori students on the1st of July . The focal point of the

Montessori Seniors’ Orientation was to ensure a smooth transition to next grade. Parents

were also given an overview of the curriculum and an insight into the assessment

pattern.

Orientation for Grades 7 and 8 - Parents of students in these grades attended an

orientation session, held separately for each group, on the 8th of July. The main agenda

was to acquaint parents with the new system of assessment introduced by CBSE this

year. Emphasis was laid on the need for students to strike a balance between academic

and co-curricular activities in order to develop into independent, confident and well

rounded individuals. The role of parenting was dealt with at length and various pointers

were shared by the Principal Ms. Jyotsna Nair, especially on the need for parents to be

watchful about the amount of time being spent by their wards on social media sites and

online gaming, both of which are extremely addictive.

A Parent-Teacher Conference for Grade 4 was held on the 29th of July. The aim of these

conferences is to enable parents to interact with their ward’s class teacher and subject

teachers on a one on one basis and find out ways of enhancing their ward’s academic

performance.

Community Outreach Programme :A visit to the “SamarthanamTrust’ was organized for

Grade 10 students, to help them understand the working of the institution and develop

an empathy towards specially abled children. As a token of their love, our students

donated groceries and spent quality time interacting and singing with the kids.

Inter- House Events

1. ‘Ecotoons’ a cartooning event, was held on held on 30th June for grades 9-12, with the

theme ‘The change you don’t wish to see or the change you don’t wish to be.’Three of

the best cartoons will feature either in ‘The Times of India’ or ‘The Optimist Citizen’.The

winning cartoonist was ArneshKundu of Grade 12 (Explorers), and the second place was a

tie between KurchiMitra of Grade 11 (Challengers) and Rajdeep Nag of Grade 11

(Pioneers).

2. A ‘Sandbag Making’ competition was also held on the same day for the students of grade

5. They were divided into groups of 5 – 6 students and one student from each group

had to bring a sandbag which was to be decorated in school. The team from 5B

comprising Sreestha S , Ranya B, Ritvika M, Tanisha P and Yashna P were adjudged

winners, followed by the team from 5A consisting of Ayantika, Divya, Ayush, Muskan and

Ranvit. Close behind, in the third position wasthe team from 5C comprisingSoham, Vihaan,

Palak, Vaishnavi, Samridh, Snehaand Kashvi.

3. On 6th July, a Tattoo Making competition was held in our school auditorium for Grades 6

to 8. The participants were required to represent the “Mandala” - a spiritual and ritual

symbol of the universe in Hinduism and Buddhism, through a tattoo. Over 50 students

participated in this event and each participant had a willing volunteer on whom the

tattoo was drawn. Artistic skills were brought to the fore, as participants from each of the

houses vied to put their best tattoo forward. AnkitaAnand (Pioneers) secured the 1st

place, RuhikaVerma (Voyagers) came in 2nd, ManyaGolash (Challengers) stood 3rd.

AyraKhetan(Explorers) was awarded a Consolation Prize.

4. On 22ndJuly, an Art event was conducted for Grades 9 to 12. The participants from the

various houses were required to artistically present the well- known story of “Little Red

Riding Hood” in one frame, with a twist at the end. The Voyagers (Maithree V, Megha,

Suprita V and Jahnvi K) bagged the top spot, followed by the Pioneers (Sumedha R.,

Advaita K., Rajdeep N. and Ashna C). The Challengers (Ashray N, Kurchi M., Pooja R. and

Anvita A) came third.

HIGHLIGHTS

5. Just A Minute (JAM) & Parliamentary Debate: The inter-house parliamentary debate and

JAM for Grades 9 to 12 was conducted by the Literary Club on 27th July. Each house put

forth 3 participants who battled it out in two rounds of debate. NPSK alumni- Amon

Bhattacharya and Nikhil Tony Idiculla- were the judges. The Pioneers were adjudged the

winners with the Explorers and Voyagers as the Runners-up. In the second event, Just A

Minute ( JAM), participants were judged on fluency, pronunciation and grammar by

Ms.UshaUnnikrishnan and Ms. Neena Das, faculty members, Dept. of English. The School

prefect Rahul Bhattacharya played the role of “JAM Master”. The Challengerswon the

event with the Voyagers and Explorers in the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Class Assemblies

1. The students of Grade 11A presented their class assembly on the topic Procrastination

with wry humour. A skit brought to the fore the ill effects of procrastination while

emphasizing on the importance of utilizing time productively. The students enacted real

and surreal situations to highlight the significance of the topic. The thought for the day

and the speech drove home the message that success can be achieved only if time is

valued.

2. SeniorCitizens -Students of Grade 11B, reminded the audience that it indeed this

generation of people who are an integral part of our lives and a link to some wonderful

memories. The highlight of the presentation was a moving skit comparing life in an old

age home to the one spent by grandparents in the company of their beloved children &

grandchildren . The debate, the medley and the poem that followed left one and all

pondering as to whether the choice of old age homes for our grandparents and aged

parents by the current generation is justified.

3. An Entrepreneurial Saga - “Opportunists seek for a chance. Entrepreneurs make new

chances.” The students of 10B, through their assembly, took the audience through an

entrepreneurial journey replete with emotions, hardships and challenges in the

corporate world with a mime that reflected the undying spirit of entrepreneurs to turn a

chaotic unit into a flourishing one. The thought, the speech and the song that followed

reminded each one that “Success is never final, failure is never fatal and the courage to

continue is all that matters”, and it courage is that helps us survive in a competitive world.

4. Carpe Diem–Grade 10 C presented their assembly on 26th July, and showcased how one’s

future is shaped by seizing an opportunity at the right time. The dramatized story of an

ace badminton player brought home the need to overcome adversities in life and move

on unfazed by challenges. The impact of seizing opportunities at the opportune moment

was highlighted through interactive choices made by the audience in three different

scenes of the skit.

Field Trips

1. TISB- Students wait with baited breath to visit TISB, to enjoy nature’s bounty, interact

freely with their peers and savor the scrumptious food. This month, it was the turn of

Grades 11 and 12 and our tiny tots from Kindergarten and Montessori to let hair their

down, bond with peers and explore the vast expanse that these lush green lawns have to

offer.

2. Bannerghatta Zoo –The students of Grade 2 along were accompanied by their teachers

on an experiential learning trip to the Bannerghatta zoo, thereby taking learning beyond

the classroom walls. The students observed wild animals in their natural habitat and were

presented with the opportunity to interact as well as discuss to their heart’s content the

topic “Animals”, with their peers and teachers. They alsoenjoyed a picnic lunch and

played under the vast green spaces. It was indeed an unforgettable experience for the

little ones.

Continuing Professional Development

1. Math Workshop -Ms. Vidyashri, Math Lab In-charge & Faculty member, Department of

Mathematics, attended a workshop conducted by The Ramanujan Museum and Math

Education Centre (Chennai) onthe 30th June and 1st July 2017. The resource person Ms.

Meena Suresh, Director of the Museum,emphasized the importance of activity based and

hands on learning through aids, games and puzzles, to make learning tangible, visual and

enjoyable rather than an abstract concept. She also effectively drove home the point

that the innovative use of Math Lab material to the maximum benefit of the students will

lead to the emergence of new ideas. This, in turn, will lead to a productive and fun filled

learning experience.

2. Physics Workshop - Ms. Shari Muraleedharan., Faculty member, Dept. of Physics,

attended a workshop conducted by Association for Science Education at Jawaharlal

Nehru Planetarium, Bangalore on the 6th and 7th of July. The objective of the workshop

wasto acquaint Physics teachers handling Grades 8 to 10 with the software “TRACKER”- a

free video analysis and modelling tool built on the Open Source Physics JAVA frame work.

The software is designed to be used in physics education.

Guest Lectures & Visits

1. Quizshala-With the intention of providing new and varied learning opportunities to

our students, we have been offering ‘Quizshala’ – a quizzing oriented developmental

workshop for the students of Grades 4 to 9 for the last few years. The yearlong

programme is conducted by resource persons from Walnut Knowledge Solutions.

MrRaghavChakravarthy from Walnut Knowledge Solutions addressed the students of

Grades 4 to 9 in this regard in the June and the classes have commenced in the

month of July.

OTHER EVENTS

2. AshokaVenturers - Volunteers from the ‘Ashoka Innovators”, a public organization,

have started a “Changemaker Curriculum” for Grade 7 during their Life skills classes,to

empower the students by equipping them with 4change making skills namely,

empathy, team work, creative problem solving and collaborative leadership. The

initiative commenced on the 12thof July and has 12 sessions. Two sessions have been

conducted so far. While the first session focused on an introduction to change making

skills, the second one was on empathy building and practising the skill through a real

life simulation of a refugee crisis situation, which is currently the plight of millions of

refugees from around the world.

3. An interactive session on pursuing higher studies in the University of Waterloo, Canada

was conducted on the 29th of July, 2017 by Mrs. Seetha, the India representative of

the Math Department at Waterloo. She briefed class 12 students about the nuances

of studying in Canada. The university stands apart for the STEM courses and Co-op

experience that it has to offer.

We bid you“ Slán” - an Irish goodbye till we meet again, as yet another fruitful month has flown
