Minutes: University of New Haven Alumni Board of Directors Meeting Date: 9/17/2019 Attended: Dawn Alderman, Ryan Colbourn, Steve Dunnigan, Chrissy Falcha, Ken Johnson, Rick Polio, Rich Steeves, Tom Wilkinson Phone: Scott Brazis, Ayana Duncanson, Frank Harper, Dawn Gratalo, Chris Rinck, Russ Sharpe Introductions President’s Report: Committees should be meeting on a monthly basis to advance the initiatives of the Alumni Board. In an effort to fill open spots, plan for the future, continuity plan for the Committees, we have implemented co-chairs for each of the committees. Centennial: Next meeting is this week. Will provide Alumni Board with update via email after that weekend. Florida Centennial Celebration Weekend is in February 2020. Homecoming coming up, October 4-6, opportunity to meet the new Athletic Director Sheahon Zenger. Weekend full of activities. Oktoberfest Alumni Reception at Two Roads Brewing Company on October 24. Discussion about potential move to Division I related to costs and timing. Motion to approve May meeting minutes by Kenney, Second by Steve. Approved. Committee reports: (see reports for additional details) Marketing: Social media initiatives around Homecoming. Content has been crafted and posted on the Alumni Board Meeting website that ABOD members can share on their personal social channels. Will continue working with the editor on the Alumni Magazine and will talk about the vision for the next issue. ABOD should send any magazine feedback to Reece. Additional goals includes the slide deck that gives a general overview of the Alumni Board and the Committees. Advancement: Goals are in the handouts. Advancement is going to be working more closely with the Student Philanthropy Council. Will be involved with Get the Scoop on Philanthropy. Would like to get Board members to attend at least one SPC meeting per semester. Benefits and Services: Looking to continuing developing existing alumni networks, as well as utilize those networks for outreach to raise awareness about the University’s Centennial in 2020. Encourage participation in events and activities. Build substance. Use Centennial Homecoming as a vehicle to encourage

Minutes: University of New Haven Alumni Board of Directors Meeting Date: 9/17/2019 Membership Committee: Co-chairing with Kristina Conroy. The Committee’s goals are to engage associate members, identifying, nominating and inducting new members onto the Board, and re-engaging inactive members. Office of Alumni Relations: Reviewed Homecoming events and activities, and upcoming Centennial events. Discussed a few new social media initiatives. Old Business: Rich Steeves inquired about the progress of the Charger Horse statue. Dave Galla informed the Board of its proposed location in front of the Beckerman Recreation Center, and the unveiling to take place in the Spring. New Business: Dave Galla reminded the Board of the 100 for 100 initiative, and encouraged Alumni Board members to make their gift to the University. Next meeting will be on November 19 with President Kaplan. The meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm

Advancement Committee Report November 19, 2019

The purpose of the Advancement Committee is to represent the alumni community and provide input to the University in the area of advancement, which includes alumni relations, annual giving and stewardship. The Committee and the Alumni Board will advocate for and support the initiatives set forth by the Student Philanthropy Council and the Annual Giving Office.

Committee Members: Kenney Johnson – (Co‐Chair) Cindy Kohan – (Co‐Chair) Ryan Colbourn Eric St. Amand Advancement Committee Goals:

1. 100% Alumni Board Participation a. 100 for 100, 100% Alumni Board participation for our 100th Anniversary (2020 Centennial)

Current participation as of November: 10 out of 33 members, 30.3%

2. Work with and support Student Philanthropy Council

a. Feel Good February/Get the Scoop on Philanthropy/Senior 20 a. Attends and Supports events

b. NEW Advancement Committee/ABOD to attend 1 Student Philanthropy Council meeting per semester

3. Assist in Marketing and Promoting University Crowdfunding projects

a. Promote at least five projects via social media, email, etc.

4. NEW Support Giving Day | Founders Day a. April 30, 2020

5. Thank You Note Campaign

Progress to Date:

• We had our second committee conference call on November 13, 2019. We reviewed updates from goals and discussed opportunities for future involvement of Alumni Board members

• Eric met with members of the Student Philanthropy Council via videoconference on November 7

• Kenney attended the Get the Scoop on Philanthropy event on November 12

• Kenney and Dave participated in a calendar year end video campaign for the Office of Annual Giving

Benefits and Services Committee

November 2019 Report Committee Purpose: The Benefits and Services Committee works closely with the Office of Alumni Relations to provide strategic oversight of the Alumni Networks, Chapters and Clubs. The Committee also provides input on the benefits offered to members of the alumni association. Committee Members: Dawn Gratalo (Chair), Ayana Duncanson, Jef Thiffault, Jason Gamsby, Michael Qiu, Angela Marino, John Capozzo Benefits and Services Committee Goals:

1. Goal: Support the University’s Centennial by promoting activities through the Alumni networks 2. Goal: Grow existing alumni networks and develop newly formed networks 3. Goal: Support the university through Board member participation with students, faculty, and

alumni

Progress to Date:

• Benefits and Services Committee has had conference calls on 9/26, 10/10 and 11/14.

• Reviewed committee goals and progress towards goals

• Ayana is planning to broaden her outreach to Washington DC Alumni Network

• Heather is working on updating documentation for network development

• Heather has a videoconference call with Michael Qiu to discuss international alumni and the International Alumni Network.

• Once the networks statuses are confirmed, we will plan to post that information on the alumni website and being to advertise it on social and in the enewsletter

Goal: Create a social media template portal for the Alumni Board

• Create and maintain a mechanism for Alumni Board members to view and template-style content that can be shared on various social media platforms

• The presentation was created last year to help present and future undergrads, alumni, the Board of Governors and others understand how we are engaging and impacting our alumni population.

• Created a lighter version, less than 10 slides, that can be used as a quick informational overview for anyone interested in the Alumni Board or Alumni Relations

November 2019 ABOD Meeting Status Report

Membership Committee

The purpose of the Membership/Nominating Committee is to identify research and nominate a slate of candidates for membership on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, subject to the approval of the Board and thereafter election by the general membership of the Association.

This process is performed on an annual basis or as otherwise needed to ensure membership on the Alumni Association Board of Directors complies with the Constitution of the University of New Haven Alumni Association.

Goals

• Engage Associate Members in Alumni Board of Directors meetings and activities • Identify candidate(s) and recommend for openings on the Alumni Board of Directors. • Evaluate current membership in the Fall • Identify, review, and initiate process for nominating new members in the Spring. • Identify potential Associate Members • Develop strategy and process for reengaging or transitioning currently non-participating

members of the Board of Directors. • Continue to work to increase diversity to match demographics of the University of New Haven’s
