Alumni Reunion 2014 a Success

O ver 100 alumni and their fami-

lies took part in the annual event held

on 19th April with a programme

stretching from 10:00 am. to 4:00 p.m.

Through snacks, drinks, lunch, cam-

pus tours, ball games and others, they

refreshed old friendships, made new

ones and updated each other on new

development in the College. The

highlight was a volley ball match be-

tween the classes of 1994 and 2004.

Tony White volunteered his service as

referee for the occasion. Jane Parry,

Senior Leader of the College in her

welcoming address, reiterated the im-

portance of alumni as a key compo-

nent of College community and

thanked the Alumni Association for

their contributions to promoting net-

working among alumni.

Three current students took part as

campus tour guides and photogra-

phers.

The event was particularly well rep-

resented by the Class of 1994 who

happened to be celebrating their

20th year of graduation from Sha Tin

with alumni flying in from Austral-

ia, UK, USA, Vietnam and Singapore

for a week long reunion program in

Hong Kong.

The Alumni Association also took

the opportunity of presenting a sou-

venir to Tony White who will be

retiring this year after 27 years of

service at Sha Tin.

Home coming visits by Alumni

“Students well prepared for globaliz-

ing world” observed the Wijedoru

brothers

Originally from Sri Lanka, the three Wijedoru brothers

studied in Sha Tin when their parents worked in Hong

Kong. Thusith 1993 is now a sports photographer in Sri

Lanka, Sugath 1995, a lawyer in Australia and Lalith

1997, a medical doctor in UK.

In a visit to the College with their mother they came in

T shirts in the colour of the houses they belonged to

during their student days. They were greeted by Marc

Morris, the Principal, Tony White, Mary Paciello, Alan

Dickson and Victoria Harvey in Sha Tin. They were

most thankful for the excellent education provided to

them. Beyond refreshing memories and a 45-minute

campus tour, they shared with a group of current stu-

dents their personal and career developments high-

lighting their efforts as expatriates in learning Chinese.

Marc Morris

At the visit, they were most impressed by the much im-

proved campus facilities and the move of Sha Tin into IB, a

program in their view preparing students for ongoing glob-

alisation.

Sha Tin Serves the world. Its Alumni makes the world global

Six siblings of the Walsh family in Sha Tin

The Walsh family is well known to all teachers. For a span of 12.5 years from

1984 to 1997, six siblings of the Walsh family, Tim, Hugh, Sarah, Fiona, Clare

and Anthony attended Sha Tin when their father was a lecturer at the Universi-

ty of Hong Kong. The second eldest, Hugh, an IT professional, his wife, a KGV

graduate, their two daughters and Anthony the youngest, an air pilot with Ca-

thay Pacific, paid a visit to the College in April 2014. The visit that brings back

fond memories of their school days, notably the trip to Nepal for Hugh with

Tony White who acted as host for the occasion. They were amazed to see all the

improved facilities on campus. After browsing through photos in the Explorer,

Hugh offered useful suggestions on ways of improving the Alumni Webpage

including showing selected photos from the Explorer.

Ada (2008) and Alison (2010) Luk wrote after their visit

in February 2014. “It has been over three years since we

visited Sha Tin and it was nostalgic and heart warming to

walk around the campus that was once so familiar to us. It

was strange to see so many new things. Yet the atmosphere

seemed the same when we were there. Perhaps the most

surprising was being recognized by teachers and staff even

after so many years. Everyone always said that high school

years are the ones you look back on most fondly and now

we are finally qualified to agree.”

Alumni Dragon Boat Team

To take part in 1st race on 22nd June

The Sha Tin College Alumni Dragon Boat Team

will take part in the Hong Kong 13th Dragon

Boat Short Course Race scheduled on 22nd June

2014. This is made possible by the unstinting

efforts of Emilie Wong (1993) in turning her idea

of forming a team into a reality by successfully

getting the dedicated service of Alistair Ho, our

own alumui of 1997 as co-manager and coach.

Within less than a year, 18 alumni have signed

up as team members. Since April, they have

been following a vigorous training and practice

schedule meeting once a week in preparation for

their first race.

The race will be held on Sunday, 22 June at

9:00 a.m at Stanley, Hong Kong

Do come with your family, fellow alumni and

friends to show support to the team and to share

the fun and joy of this memorable occasion.

A big hand to our Dragon Boat Team
