She was born Virginia Patterson Hensley into a blue collar family and before her untimely death she became

an international sensation known as Patsy Cline. She was the first female inductee into the Country Music Hall

of Fame and more than 50 years after her death she still has an active fan club with tens of thousands of

members. Winchester was Patsy Cline’s hometown and there are still lots of places with direct associations.

There’s plenty more to see and do (and eat) in and around Winchester, and we’ll finish up in Fredericksburg

with an evening at the theater enjoying the popular musical Always ... Patsy Cline.

Welcome Reception and Patsy Cline Exhibit The beautiful Winchester Welcome Center is the setting for our reception

welcoming the group. The center has its own exhibit on Patsy Cline in

Winchester with memorabilia and photographs. Let’s begin with some tasty

refreshments and howdy-do’s with representatives from Winchester Tourism.

DAY ONE, Wednesday - Arrive in Winchester, VA:

Check in to the George Washington Hotel One of the jewels of the Shenandoah Valley, the George Washington Hotel has

been welcoming guests to Winchester since 1924. A $30 million renovation

has taken the hotel to its original grandeur and far beyond. Now a Wyndham

Grand Hotel (and Wyndham’s 2011 Hotel of the Year), the George

Washington features the best in modern amenities coupled with the traditional

touches that have made it a local legend.

Dinner at the Bonnie Blue Bonnie Blue is an adorable vintage gas station that Patsy Cline no doubt

stopped at a few times. Today it is a wonderful restaurant and market with a

devoted local following. House specialties include delicious barbecue and

smoked meats.

Always Patsy Cline

Visit the Patsy Cline House

DAY TWO, Thursday - Winchester:

Patsy lived in this house from 1948 to 1953 and resided here when her career

as a country singer first took off. The house has been returned to its 1950s

appearance and contains period pieces throughout. Open a kitchen cabinet and

you’ll find items you remember from your grandparents’ house.

Marker Miller Orchards Farm Market and Bakery We know you’ll want to take some Shenandoah Valley goodies home with you

and this is the place to source them. Jams and jellies, local honey, in-season

fruit and vegetables, pies, bread, fudge, apple cider and Virginia wine are

among the delectables to choose from.

Free Time and Lunch On Your Own Downtown

Grave of Patsy Cline It is appropriate that we pay our respects to Patsy Cline while we are here in

her hometown. She’s buried under a humble bronze marker and her grave has

been visited by countless fans since her death in a plane crash in 1963. The

nearby bell tower was funded by Loretta Lynn, Dottie West and other friends.

Driving Tour of Patsy Cline Sites A local expert will hop on the bus with us and conduct an entertaining driving

tour of Winchester sites associated with Patsy Cline. We’ll see the classic

façade of Handley High School, the studios of WINC radio where Patsy

performed live early in her career, Gaunts Drug Store where she worked as a

waitress and more.

Years ago Winchester turned its main downtown street into a pedestrian mall.

Take some time for a relaxing stroll, some boutique shopping and a good lunch

(we’ll have suggestions for you). George Washington once walked these

famous streets … but didn’t have as much fun as you will.

Dinner with Patsy Tonight we’ll be in the Grand Ballroom of the George Washington Hotel for a

lovely dinner and special entertainment by Patsy Cline herself - well, a Patsy

Cline impersonator, that is. She’ll sing some of Patsy’s best and favorite songs

and give us a delightful evening of entertainment.

Always Patsy Cline DAY THREE, Friday - Winchester to Fredericksburg:

Trolley Tour of Fredericksburg After a scenic morning drive we’ll arrive in the incomparably historic town of

Fredericksburg. We’ll get a good introduction aboard a modern-day trolley on

a tour of downtown and quaint neighborhoods. Beautiful homes, some dating

to the colonial period, churches and stately downtown architecture line the

streets.

Shopping and Lunch on Your Own Downtown Downtown Fredericksburg is filled with art galleries, antique shops, boutiques,

restaurants and cafes – and best of all, it’s easily walkable. Stop for a cool treat

at Goolrick’s Pharmacy, home of America’s oldest soda fountain, browse the

galleries for something wonderful to bring home and pick one of our chef-

owned restaurants for a scrumptious lunch.

A. Smith Bowman Distillery Immerse your senses at A. Smith Bowman Distillery, producer of fine hand-

crafted spirits. The aroma of fine distilling spirits greets you upon entering the

tasting room and the tour takes you behind the scenes revealing the process of

making whiskey, vodka, gin and rum. Taste the latest small batch whiskeys and

vodka and visit the gift shop to choose a bottle or two to bring home.

Dinner and Theater Performance: Always ... Patsy Cline Riverside Center for the Performing Arts hosts national touring companies as

well as excellent regional talent in a classic dinner theater setting. Tonight we

will be together and enjoy great food followed by a performance of the hit

musical Always ... Patsy Cline. Patsy’s life and music are brought vividly alive

in this popular performance - a proper “dessert” to top off our tour.

DAY FOUR, Saturday - Fredericksburg to Home:

Kenmore Estate and Gardens A trip to Fredericksburg is not complete without a visit to Kenmore. George

Washington’s sister Betty lived in this Georgian beauty. A Colonial “gentry”

home, Kenmore is famous for its stunning plasterwork ceilings, some of the

finest in America. The gardens are designed based on popular Colonials styles

and were the inspiration for the first Historic Garden Week in Virginia in 1929.
