Every Child, Every Day
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Unbelievably there are only 4 more weeks left of school and 6 weeks until Santa visits! So inevitably things will
become busier as the time gets closer to the end of the year. Please note the many events which are occurring
over the next few weeks. It’s a wonderful time of year to be part of a school community as it celebrates the
learning which has taken place over the year.
Although the end is in sight, I would remind parents to note that teaching programs do not conclude until Friday
13th December. These last few weeks are a very important time for teachers’ assessment of students and collation
of their results for both reporting to parents and building a profile for the new classroom teacher in 2014. As a
result I would like to reminded parents to ensure that they notify the school/classroom teacher if their child is sick,
away or on holidays. Last week we had 90 days of un-notified absences, 28 days notified as sick and 33 days of
students being out of the community for medical reasons or holidays. This information is collected by the
Department, so please ensure you keep the school informed when and why your child is away from school.
Monday this week we had our School Review conducted by The Executive Director and Director of School
Performance for Arnhem. Although the results from this are still to be collected and presented to the school in a
report, the initial feedback was excellent, with us scoring high in two areas: ‘A Culture That Promotes Learning’ and
‘School/Community Partnerships – Building and Maintaining Positive and Caring Relationships with Families, Carers,
Students and all Those Associated with the School’s Broader Community.’
I am very proud that the feedback was so positive and am looking forward to the further feedback that we will receive via our Parent, Student and Staff Survey. Please remember that the survey link can be found on our Face Book page and on our website. The survey will be available until 17th November.
Currently the Student Representative Council (SRC) have been working with the School Wide Positive Behaviour
development team to create a set of school values which are user friendly for all student year levels. Their early
work has identified Respect, Safety, Excellence, Courage (together) as words that all students identified with. The
next step in the process will be to present these to the School Council. With these values in place, next year
teachers and the school will be able to explicitly teach these values and align school rules and rewards with these
values. I encourage parents to let me know if they would like to have input into this process on the development of
our school values.

LETTER TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS IN CYCLONE AFFECTED AREA PREPARING FOR THE
CYCLONE SEASON
The cyclone season runs from 1 November to 30 April. All parents and guardians should be prepared at the start of
the season for the possibility of a cyclone, flood or storm striking your area sometime during this period.
On average, two to three cyclones per season form in the waters surrounding the Northern Territory, including the
Timor and Arafura seas and the Gulf of Carpentaria. The number and intensity of cyclones that affect coastal areas
varies each year.
Information on this season’s cyclone outlook is available at the BOM website at http://www.bom.gov.au/nt/
The SecureNT website provides information on how to prepare your family, your home and your business for
potential natural disasters or emergencies. You can receive timely information and updates via Facebook and
Twitter and get advice on emergency shelters, power outages, flooding, road updates and cyclone tracking at
www.securent.nt.gov.au.
When a cyclone watch is declared for your area, the school will be kept fully informed by the department and letters
will be sent home with students advising parents and guardians of the latest situation and steps that will be taken if
the situation deteriorates.
Parents/guardians are encouraged to monitor radio and TV bulletins for further cyclone information.
In the event of a cyclone warning being declared, the Counter Disaster Council, in consultation with the Department
of Education, will advise of the need to close schools and/or offices and advice will be distributed immediately when
that step is taken.
Primary Golf Years 3 to 6 had the opportunity to participate in a
golfing experience at the Alyangula Golf Course on
Monday.
Students received some hands on knowledge
from golf professional Nathan Campfield, PGA
Professional, Drummond Golf NT.
