CELEBRATING POLLINATORS“If bees were to disappear from the globe,”

Einstein predicted, “mankind would only

have four years left to live.”

Did you know that 80% of plant species require bees to be pollinated? Without bees, there is no pollinization, and fruits and vegetables could disappear from the face of the Earth. Apis mellifera (the honey bee), which appeared on Earth 60 million years before man and is as indispensable to the economy as it is to man’s survival.

Over the past 15 years, numerous colonies of bees have been decimated throughout the world, but the causes of this disaster remain unknown. Depending on the world region, 50% to 90% of all local bees have disappeared, and this epidemic is still spreading from beehive to beehive–all over the planet.

June 17-21, we'll offer speakers, movies and other events educating us and celebrating the critical roles pollinators play in our world.

Chaplain Glenn Davis served for over 27 years as a chaplain with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. For the past two years he has managed the First Responder Chaplaincy Program at Wake Forest Baptist. Under this program, chaplains are trained and then deployed as integral, embedded members of emergency response teams.

Thursday, June 6 (cont.) 7:00 PM Interest Meeting–Research Study Opportunity Volunteers Needed for Paid Driving Study Piner Hall

Arbor Acres is a host site for an upcoming research study whose purpose is to learn if two training programs designed to improve older driver safety are effective. This study will compare the on-road driving performance of two groups of individuals age 70 and older: (1) drivers who complete training to improve their visual scanning, and (2) drivers who complete small group information sessions about safe driving practices. The results of your driving evaluation will not be shared with the Department of Motor Vehicles, and your participation will not affect your license status. If you are age 70 or older, please consider volunteering for this important study. If you qualify to participate and complete all study activities, you will be paid $200. As part of the study, you will receive behind-the-wheel driver evaluations with an occupational therapist/certified driver rehabilitation specialist ($500 per evaluation value), and an intervention to aid in enhancing driver safety ($100-$400 value). You will receive feedback following your final behind-the-wheel evaluation drive regarding your strengths and areas for improvement. You will be contributing to a body of knowledge directed at keeping aging drivers on the road as long as possible and as safe as possible with an ultimate goal to bring these interventions to general public access. This event is open to the public. Please share this invitation with your church family, friends and community members, and encourage those 70 and older to attend this interest meeting to learn more about participating in this important study. All meetings for this study will be held on the Arbor Acres campus. Questions? Contact Janice Lutz-Vanhoy at ext. 1266.

New Spiritual Arts Summer Schedule

We are pleased to announce a new Summer Worship Services schedule. Please join us:

Sundays 11:00 am for Worship in Robinson Hall

Wednesdays 5:00-5:45 pm for Vespers in Piner Hall

See Wellzesta for additional information and for a message from Andrew Applegate.

During June, July and August, there will be no Sunday evening Vespers at 6:30 pm in Piner Hall.

This hiatus will allow the chaplains time for long-range planning and development of ideas to re-energize this long-valued worship opportunity.

Beginning in June, the Wednesday evening Vespers service will be offered earlier at 5:00 pm in Piner

Hall. This new time allows more residents to participate. The earlier time also allows attendees

time to have dinner afterward. Sunday evening Vespers will resume in September in Piner Hall at

5:00 pm. Consistent service times will help eliminate any confusion.

As always, the chaplains welcome your feedback and ideas!
