The aim of the project is to improve the language and
methodological skills of teachers and to improve the quality of
school work by developing key competences in the field of
mathematics, foreign languages and students' IT skills.
Am I a Vitruvian man?
project by Jolanta Dobrowolska
Math teacher
Primary School No 3 Janusz Kusociński in Legionowo implements
a co-financed project from European Funds: "Łączą nas różnice"
ERASMUS +, POWER
2016-1-PL01-KA101-024831
This project was created as part of the course "Mathematics combines
the differences" implemented in class 6b with the innovation of
English.
Jolanta Dobrowolska
I would like to thank our partners this project - teachers
for kindness, help and commitment in the implementation
of this project:
KATARINA IVANOVIĆ-OŠ "Stevan Dukić", Београд /
Beograd Serbia (Primary School)
FERHAT KÖKLÜ- Kaşgarlı Mahmut Ortaokulu,
Selçuklu Turcja (Secondary School)
Main goal of the project:
Checking whether the rule of Vitruvius (the height of an adult man
equals approximately the width of his spread arms) is valid among
thirteen-year-old students
Objectives:
· Developing key competences: mathematical and basic scientific and
technical competences, IT competences, and communication in a
foreign language.
· Developing reading comprehension skills for texts in various fields of
knowledge.
· Developing the skills of searching, ordering and interpreting data
and drawing conclusions from the measurements and calculations.
· Developing skills to create a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and
formulas and graphs in this program.
· Developing artistic skills while preparing the logo and the final
drawing.
· Raising motivation to learn mathematics and English as well as class
results through participation in the project.
· Realizing the differences and similarities between students of similar
age, developing tolerance and international cooperation.
In accordance with the assumptions of the project implemented with
the school in Turkey and in Serbia, we exchanged information about
our countries, cities in which we live and our schools.

It was amazing for both students and me to learn about partner
schools, their culture and traditions. Above all, however, participation
in this international project has mobilized us to use English to
communicate and create presentations. Thanks to the work on the
project, the participants realized the differences and similarities
between pupils of similar age, developed tolerance and international
cooperation.
My students are 13 years old and are wondering if the Vitruvius rule will be
confirmed by their friends and colleagues of the same age? Can a 13-year-old
pupil of our school be entered in a circle and a square when he stands
upright? - as Witruwiusz described in the book "On the architecture of books
10". Students want to get acquainted with the biographies of Vitruvius and
Leonardo da Vinci, who is the author of the drawing "Vitruvian Man" and
prepare a presentation in the Power Point program about the project. The
data collected during the measurements will be placed in a Microsoft Excel
spreadsheet and we will learn whether a student aged 12-13 is a Vitruvian
man. At the end, we would like to make a poster and draw an average
thirteen-year-old from our school and put it in a circle and a square - like
Leonardo.
Measurements at school in Turkey
Measurements at school in Beograd
Measurements at school in Poland
On the basis of the measurement results introduced to Excel, we
received the average height and span of students' arms from
three schools.
L.p. Height (cm) a
Shoulder length (cm)
b a - b a : b School in
Average 157,89 158,06 -0,17 1 Poland
Average 168,25 167,05 1,2 1,01 Serbia
Average 152,22 152,31 -0,16 0,89 Turkey
During the classes, the teachers talked with the students about
the biographies of Vitruvius and Leonardo da Vinci
We were looking for information about the life and work of
Vitruvius and Leonardo da Vinci. We watched films and
presentations about the golden division and proportions of the
Man of Vitruvian. In Excel, we made calculations and it turned
out that with slight deviations, the proportions of students in
Poland, Turkey and Serbia meet the Vitruvius rule.

Proportions of the Man of Vitruvian
At the end of the project, a picture of a vitruvian man was made
at the age of 13 - specifically, our Vitruvian girl.
