STATS: Sizes                                                                    Males: • Length( head to tip of tail ): 8-10 feet• Shoulder Height: 36 inches• Weight: 400 - 575 pounds

Females:• Length( head to tip of tail ): 8-9 feet• Shoulder Height:• Weight: 220 - 400 pounds

 Lifespan: 15 years   *In 1900, the tiger population of India was estimated at 40,000 to 50,000. By 1972, it dropped to 1,850. A good conservation program has increased it to 4,000

HABITAT:• Mangrove forests of the

Sundarbans, located in eastern India and Bangladesh

• Other areas of India such as Nepal and Burma

• Need large home ranges for hunting; don't like to share hunting grounds

• Males: 20 sq. miles      Females: 17 sq. miles• One tiger usually has several dens

in one home range & uses whichever is most convenient

FOOD SOURCE:• nocturnal: hunts at night• stalk their prey because they

can't outrun faster prey• can kill animals up to twice its

size• mainly hunt wild ox and buffalo• prefers animals that have less

resistance• in their natural habitat, they

prey on axis deer, wild boar, monkeys, and they may also attack porcupines

HUMAN INTERACTION:• tigers like to be alone, so

they are known to not like the presence of humans

•  they will attack if hunting or mothers and their cubs are disturbed

• other tigers can be easily trained when kept in captivity

OTHER FACTS:• a tigers roar can be heard as far

as 2 miles away•  tigers are strong and excellent

swimmers•  bengal tigers are endangered•  a tiger can consume up to 88lbs.

than 3,000 bengal tigers left out in the wild

•  white tigers have pigmented stripes and blue eyes, so they are not albino
