INTRODUCTION
Tennessee Valley AMBUCS is a non–profit organization that reaches out to children and others with disabilities, to create mobility and independence through AmTryke therapeutic tricycles.
AMBUCS was founded in 1922 in Birmingham, AL. Sue Haywood, PT, designed the AmTryke therapeutic tricycle in 1989.
Huntsville Tennessee Valley AMBUCS chapter was formed in June 2009 by a team of regional therapists and local business owners to provide children in the TN Valley Region who are of limited financial means, access to the AmTryke therapeutic tricycle.
HSV-TN Valley AMBUCS goal is to remain a totally volunteer based organization to preserve all funds raised for physically challenged

AMTRYKES PROGRAM
• Creates Mobility• AmTrykes are adapted to each child’s specific
disability whether he/she is limited by Spina Bifida, Down Syndrome, Autism, Cerebral Palsy or other mobility impairment.
• Therapeutic Value• Children with mobility limitations are often
dependent on others for movement. The physical aspect of cycling provides therapy in an enjoyable venue, improves motor skills. promotes independence, and builds self-esteem.
• Societal Integration • Traditionally most of these children have been
forced to participate in physical activities from the confines of their wheelchairs or walkers. AmTryke offers the benefit of integrating these youngsters with their peers during normal recreational activities.

AMBUCS requires that a therapist complete an evaluation for any child wishing to receive an AmTryke®.
Evaluates a child’s capacity to effectively use the AmTryke® as a therapeutic and mobility aid
Insures that it is the proper therapeutic device to assist the child in gaining mobility

Children without financial means, who have been recommended for an AmTryke® through their therapist, are placed on the HSV TN Valley AMBUCS Wish List
The customized AmTryke® average cost is $500.00.
When funds become available these children receive a donated AmTryke®
