Our  operations  are  conducted  by  members   in  Europe,  Africa  &  Middle  East,  North  America  and  South  America.

We  are   from   the   Information  Science  and  Communication  (SIC)  and   related  Sciences  Education   in  Psychology,

the  Law  and  Art.  In  short,  we  are  loyal  to  a  vision  pushed  international  and  interdisciplinary  exchange.

October   11,   2006.  A   train   crash   in   Luxembourg-French  border   (specifically   Zoufftgen)   caused   the  death  of   six

people.  This  tragic  accident  has  caused  much  suffering  and  pain  that  the  time  is  working  to  reduce  gradually  for

families,   friends  and  those  who  knew  the  victims.  Among  them  was  killed  Professor  Marius  Alexander  Dees  De

Sterio  (AMDDS),  as  an  exceptional  man  who  has  had  the  chance  to  work  with  him  will  never  forget.  This  is  the

reason   why   PhD   students   preparing   a   thesis   in   CIS   Research   Centre   Mediations   (CREM),   University   of   Metz

decided  to  honor  him.  This  association  was  born  that  continues  to  live  the  "scientific  family"  initiated  by  Marius,

as  it  was  friendly.

To  preserve  the  memory  of  Professor  Alexandre  Marius  De  Sterio  Dees  (1944-2006)

We  promote  humanism  that  characterized  Professor.  We  are  a  meeting  point  for  research  on  communication  in

times   of   crisis,   as   we   build   a   bridge   between   the   university   sector   and   the   enterprise.   We   support   doctoral

students  as  a  place  of  transition  from  academia  to  the  professional.

Every   two   years  we   offer   an   international   conference   in   Luxembourg   and  we   are   open   to   sponsors.  Our   next

event   is  going   to  occur   the  7th,  8th  and  9

th  of  Marc.  The   topic  discussed:

Never  before  in  history,  has  this  topic  “Crisis  communication  and  public  relations  through  glocal  societies”  been  so

widely  discussed  in  the  media  and  in  intellectual  debates.

Are  we  in  the  midst  of  chaos?  Are  we  embroiled  in  a  total  crisis  which  makes  it  so  that  our  actions  are,

more  or  less,  well  managed,  in  which  individuals  are  helpless  in  face  of  these  crises?

Or,  are  we  in  the  middle  of  an  esoteric  crisis  which  by  nature  will  be  resolved  in  time?

Those  two  queries  are  immersed  in  a  universe  that  seems  characteristic  for  the  21st  century  in  which  crisis  and

its  snowball  effects  bring  in  their  wakes  misunderstandings  or  even  misinformation.  The  decline  in  the  purchasing

power   of   households,   unemployment   caused   by   a  massive   relocation   of   firms,   urbanization   and   its   corollaries

causing  malfunctions  in  social  cohesion,  crisis  of  morality  or  moral  crisis,  humanitarian  crises,  financial  crises  who

disrupted  the  social  interaction  forcing  decision  makers  to  devise  innovative  strategies  so  that  prosperity,  growth

and   power   continue   to   illuminate   the   hope   of   powerless   people.   The   Greek   crisis   and   its   consequences   on

European  Union,  also   raises   the   following  question:   is   it   a   coincidence  of  history   if   the  etymology  of   the  word

‘crisis’:  “krisis”  «  reminds  us  of  its  Hellenic  origin  and  refers  to  the  concept  of  decision  and  judgment?

These  modern  crises  which  hurt  our  current  societies  appear  as   issues   that  open   the  way   to  specialists,  which

under   the   banner   of   proven   expertise,   believe   they   have   solutions.   All   these   actions   taken   in   an   attempt   to

provide  an  answer  to  various  crises  are  part  of  this  desire  to  establish  social  and  cultural  mediations.  But  from

one   crisis   to   another,   the   answers   vary   depending   on   the   strategies   developed.  We   should   then   deeply   think

about  the  notion  of  crisis.  At  what  point  can  we  declare  a  crisis?  What  might  be  the  proclaimed  legitimacy  of  such

a   decision?   Are   there   any   instruments,   a   grid,   indices   to   assess   a   crisis?   How   to   recognize   and   clarify   the

parameters   that   define   the   strategies   or   observations   of   the   actors  who,   facing   the   crisis,   try   to   protect   their

interests?  What  role  should  media  play  in  covering  the  crisis?

These  questions  deserve  appropriate  answers  as   long  as  one   focuses  on   the  portmanteau  word   that   can  be  «

crisis».  It  seems  fundamental  –   for  all  disciplines  to  think  about  the  definition  and  meaning  given  to  that  word

today  in  our  glocal  societies,  multilingual  and  /  or  urban  societies,  in  which  local  and  global  information  must  be

spread  to  various  public  bodies  but  also  to  everyone  in  that  sense  crisis  communication  mediated  by  ICT  needs  to

be  effective  thoughtful  and  controlled  in  the  light  of  technical,  human  and  financial  corporations,  states,  nations.

This  call   for  papers  not  only   intends   to   remove  ambiguities  and  misunderstandings  regarding   the  concept  of  «

crisis   »,   but   also   wants   to   unify   the   various   and   multidisciplinary   contributions   that   will   better   highlight   the

strategies   used   by   different   actors.   Expected   papers   intend   to   examine   the   notion   of   crisis   in   order   to

contextualize  it  among  different  approaches  that  might  confront  many  societal  sometimes  hard  to  overcome.

4-axes  will  be  offered  around  the  concept  of  crisis  communication  under  the  critical  eyes  of  researchers:

Axis   1:  Crisis   role   among  observers,   actor’s   strategies  within   a   crisis   situation   (modelization  and   case

study)

Axis  2:  Identification  criteria  and  observation  tools  for  crises  elements

Axis  3:  Effect  of  crisis  on  evolution  tools  of  researchers  and  definition  of  new  concepts  and  theories

Axis  4:  A  crisis  definition  and  a  public  relations  definition  beyond  geographical  border
