PurposeThe Annual Meeting of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists is designed to provide a variety of educational topics which will develop the maximal effectiveness of CRNAs in their roles as healthcare providers in diverse settings across the nation.

Goals 1. Provide an organized learning experience that augments

the knowledge and skills of the CRNA in various settings. 2. Serve as a forum where research pertinent to the specialty

of nurse anesthesia can be presented.3. Familiarize the nurse anesthetists with the latest medical

equipment, technology, and pharmacological products. 4. Provide AANA members with an opportunity to participate

in the business of the AANA.5. Facilitate interaction and networking between participants

on a professional and social level.

Needs Assessment and Target AudienceThe AANA Program Committee has reviewed program evaluations and other feedback from the AANA members to identify the issues that affect nurse anesthesia practice. The topics are determined based on overall member surveys, national trends and issues, and gaps in knowledge to further develop the professional practice of CRNAs. The education activities were developed to meet the needs of CRNAs, nurse anesthetist students, and other healthcare providers with an interest in the topics.

Accreditation StatementsThe 2013 AANA Annual Meeting has been prior approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists for a maximum of 19 (CE) Credits; AANA Code Number 1027606; Expiration date 08/13/2013.

The AANA designates the Pharmacology lectures as meeting the criteria for 3 CE credits in Pharmacology/Therapeutics.

The American Association of Nurse Anesthetists is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This program will provide 19 contact hours of continuing nursing education.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #10862, for 19 Contact Hours.

This educational activity is being presented without the provision of commercial support and without bias or conflict of interest from the planners and the presenters.

The maximum number of CE credits possible is 19.

Airway on Demand Workshop This course, presented for AANA by William Rosenblatt, MD, Professor of Anesthesiology and Surgery at the Yale School of Medicine, is designed as a complete diffi cult airway workshop. 4 hours of lecture will be followed by 2-hour hands-on session.

Introductory Fundamentals of Ultrasound Guidance for Anesthesia Providers Workshop

This course, presented for AANA by Jonathan Kline, CRNA, MSNA, Director of Education for Twin Oaks Anesthesia, is designed to present ultrasound fundamentals. 4 hours of lecture will be followed by 2-hour hands-on session.

J.R. Martinez is an actor, motivational speaker, army veteran and author. In March 2003 J.R. was deployed to Iraq. Less than a month into his deployment, the vehicle he was driving hit a roadside bomb. While the 3 passengers were ejected, J.R. was trapped, sustaining severe burns to 34 percent of his body. He spent 34 months in recovery and endured numerous skin grafts and cosmetic surgeries.

J.R. is best known for capturing the top prize on ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars”. During 2012 he was the Tournament of Roses Grand Marshal, recipient of the National Red Cross Spirit Award and the National Disabled American Veteran of the Year Award.

Daily FeeYou may register either in advance or onsite to participate on a particular day or days. Simply choose the sessions you want to attend and enter the appropriate amount in the space provided. A maximum of two daily registrations is permitted. Daily fees apply to all days from Saturday, August 10, through Tuesday, August 13.

GuestPayment of a guest registration includes admission to Opening Ceremonies and the Exhibit Hall. Every guest must be accompanied by a CRNA sponsor who has registered and paid all applicable fees. A reduced registration fee is available to guests who are not themselves CRNAs or SRNAs. Tickets to the Annual Banquet and fundraising events must be purchased separately. Daily registration is not available to guests.

Associate (student) membersThe basic registration fee is $255

For associate members who:

• Are enrolled in approved nurse anesthesia program

• Are eligible to take the certification examination after graduation

• Have been accepted into an approved nurse anesthesia program and can provide letter of verification from program director

• Associate members are invited to the Student Luncheon (complimentary)

Students who wish to be sponsored through AANA’s Sponsor-A-Student program must indicate their desire in Section 6 on the registration form and submit payment for registration and the Annual Banquet (if attending) by June 15, 2013. All students will be randomly selected for sponsorship. Those selected for sponsorship will receive a refund by September 1, 2013.

We ask that students who are being sponsored by a specific individual, school, or state, not request sponsorship on their registration forms to allow other students the same opportunity to be sponsored.

Retired membersAANA members over 62 years of age and in retired status with AANA can register for a reduced fee.

CRNA speakersThose who are CRNAs and also speakers at the Annual Meeting may register at a reduced fee. If they will only be at the meeting on the day they are speaking, they will not be

required to pay the fee and will be entitled to participate in scheduled activities on the day of their presentation.

Recording waiver (Photography, Audio & Video)Portions of this AANA meeting may be photographed or audio/video recorded for various purposes, including reporting, promotion, archival, or sale and distribution. By registering, individuals agree that the AANA may photograph or record by audio/video their attendance and involvement in any portion of the meeting. Furthermore, individuals agree that the AANA may use these photographs and/or recordings without additional approval or permission.

Exhibitor representativesOnly those who are employed by the exhibitor and will be working in the booth will be registered as exhibitors and given an exhibitor badge, which they must wear at all times. Badges will not be issued to registrants who are subject to the registration fee or to representatives of leasing companies, suppliers, vendors, or others who want to be admitted to make contacts. However, exhibitors will receive 2 guest passes; additional badges will be $50.

CRNAs who are exhibitorsCRNAs who are registered as exhibitors are not eligible to receive CE credit unless they have also registered as members or nonmembers and paid the registration fees.

Recruiting at the Annual MeetingThe AANA Annual Meeting is an ideal place to seek a new position, discuss the many practice options available, and network with those who have positions available. You will find many recruiters from agencies, hospitals, and placement services in the Exhibit Hall. You are encouraged to visit their booths to learn about the opportunities available.In fairness to those who have rented space in the Exhibit Hall, recruiting devices such as posters, business cards, private hospitality suites, or any other recruiting media cannot be used during the meeting, except by those who are officially listed as exhibitors. Anyone who is found to be recruiting and is not an exhibitor will be charged a full booth fee. If the fee is not paid, it will affect their attendance at future annual meetings.

Registration for ChildrenChildren under the age of 16 are not required to register. Tickets must be purchased for children who attend the Annual Banquet. Children are not permitted in the educational sessions under any circumstances.

No strollers are permitted in the Exhibit Hall. Children are not permitted in the Exhibit Hall during the setup and dismantlement periods.

ConfirmationsAll registrations received by mail, fax or email by June 15, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. CDST, will receive a confirmation by email. When you arrive at the Annual Meeting Registration Desk, you will be given the Official Program and Exhibitor Directory as well as a badge.

Cancellation PolicyIf you are not able to attend the meeting or any separate ticketed event, please email your cancellation to [email protected]. Listed below is the cancellation fee schedule:

• 31 days or more prior to event – 20% of registration/ticket fee; remainder will be refunded

• 16-30 days prior to event – 50% of registration fee/ticket fee; remainder will be refunded

• 15 or fewer days prior to event – no refund because the expense of your anticipated participation has already been incurred

Annual Meeting Banquet Seating ProcedureYou are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets by June 15, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. CDST, to guarantee your seating preference.

• Annual Banquet seats are reserved, and all attendees, including children, must have tickets.

• Tickets are nonrefundable after 4:00 p.m. CDST June 15, 2013.

• Formal or semiformal attire must be worn.

Advance ticket purchases for state/military tables• Tickets must be purchased through the pre-registration

process and picked up by 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 12, 2013, to be guaranteed a reserved seat at the state/military table requested.

• Anyone who purchases tickets after above date and time or onsite will be assigned a seat on the basis of availability.

• Under no circumstances can tables be rearranged to accommodate onsite purchasers or individuals who purchased tickets after the pre-registration date/time.

Seating at state tables• Through the use of annual rotation of state tables, those

who were seated farther from the head table one year can be assured of being seated closer the next year.

• A maximum of 10 people can be seated at a table. Every effort will be made to seat those from the same state in the same area.

• Large video screens will enable everyone to have a clear view of the head table.

Seating at state presidents’ tables• State presidents in office during March 2013 will recieve an

explanation of banquet seating procedures by email.

• If you are or will be a state president at this year’s Annual Meeting, it is your responsibility to be knowledgeable about the procedures AANA follows.

• Members/guests seated at a state president’s table must purchase a banquet ticket by June 15, 2013, at 4:00 p.m. CDST.

Sponsor-A-Student ProgramSupport AANA’s future CRNAsThis is the 21st Annual AANA Sponsor-A-Student Program, which has been hailed by sponsors and students alike. For $350, you enable a student nurse anesthetist to attend both the meeting and the Annual Banquet, the social highlight of the entire meeting. During the banquet, your sponsored student(s) can meet and mingle with those employed in the profession and learn more about the AANA and its worldwidenurse anesthetist advancement efforts.All student sponsorships made through the AANA Sponsor-A-Student program are randomly selected by the computer. Individuals, state associations, schools of nurse anesthesia, and partners in the profession may contribute to the program.There are three sponsorship options:

• Registration and banquet ticket - $350

• Registration only - $255

• Banquet ticket only - $95

The AANA Foundation processes all randomly-selected student sponsorships, which are tax-deductible. The AANA Foundation Board endorses all selections.

Direct SponsorshipsIf you wish to sponsor a specific student(s), you will need to contact that individual directly. If you would like to sponsor a student(s) from a specific state or school, you will need to contact that state or school directly to identify students in need of sponsorship. Hotel reservations, or any changes to existing reservations, can be made by using one of the following methods:

• Via the AANA Website (www.aana.com/meetings/annualmeeting)

• Fax to 847-692-3224

• Call AANA Housing Bureau at 877-226-2885, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (CDST), Monday through Friday

If you do not receive an email confirmation within 48 hours of making your hotel reservation, please call the AANA Housing Bureau at 877-226-2885. Do not call the hotel directly as they will not have your information until 2 weeks before the meeting.

The hotel requires a deposit of one night’s room rate plus tax with each reservation request. Requests received without a deposit will be returned. All sections on the credit card form must be completed in order to process your reservation. Credit card deposits will be charged by the hotel beginning on July 19, 2013.

All changes and cancellations must be made through the Housing Bureau. Reservations will be assessed a $25.00 processing fee for cancellations at any point. Reservation cancellations must be emailed to [email protected]

A $20 daily resort fee, plus tax, is applied to each hotel reservation and includes services and amenities that are sure to enhance your experience at the Mirage. The daily resort fee includes the following hotel services; complimentary internet access in sleeping rooms, access to the Fitness Center, daily newspaper available for pick-up at the Impulse Store or Bell Desk and unlimited local and toll-free calls.
