The United States’ Capitol Heating Plant was facing some serious emissions and efficiency issues.When ACI managers learned that the coal-fired plant could only be lit at night because of its visibleplume and that it was creating soot and fallout problems they decided to take action. On its owninitiative, ACI teamed with leading technology providers and engineers to design and retrofit a systeminvolving subsidiary burners, view ports, internal cameras and variable speed fuel-delivery drives.Results were beyond expectations. NOx emissions dropped significantly, opacity and soot issues wereresolved and the Capitol Heating Plant’s operating flexibility and efficiency increased. ACI is proud thatits proactive approach to service has not only made the air in DC a little cleaner, but that it’s savingtaxpayer dollars, too.

A CUSTOMER CASE STUDYKEEPING YOUR FACILITY INTACT

ST. ELIZABETH’S HOSPITALWhen St. Elizabeth’s Hospital’s Central Boiler Plant was condemned,ACI was selected to design and build a solution. The solution con-sisted of three complete mobile boiler systems to provide steam and hotwater to the hospital and adjoining facilities. Each system includeda 55,000 PPH, 250# high pressure steam boiler, a 20,000 gallondeaerator, duplex water softeners, chemical feed system, boiler feed-water system, blowdown separator, 20,000 gallon fuel tanks and afull metal enclosure. The systems, located separately, tie together andprovide constant pressure across the entire campus and were com-pletely fabricated, installed and tested per ASME and EPA requirements.After start-up, ACI successfully performed DCRA Title V emissions test-ing of all three systems and provided licensed first class operating en-gineers to operate the systems 24/7. Despite the operation’s size andcomplexity, ACI completed it on plan and on budget, preventing a dis-ruption of service which could have threatened patients and causedserious logistical problems for the facility.

A CUSTOMER CASE STUDYWHEN IN-HOUSE RESOURCES MATTER MOST

When the largest apartment complex on the entire East Coast faced a major underground leak andthe prospect of significant flooding, the Empirian Village’s managers quickly contacted their mechanicalservices contractor. Unfortunately, they learned that the contractor would have to locate and rent thenecessary equipment before it could take action and could not address the emergency immediately.Although not a client of ACI’s, the complex’s managers placed an emergency call to ACI’s 24-hour servicecenter. Within 90 minutes, ACI work crews and heavy equipment were on-site and had started digging.The source of the leak was identified and located and repairs were made with minimal impact to thecommunity. The complex has been an ACI customer ever since.

A CUSTOMER CASE STUDY TO THE RESCUE

Days before a highly-publicized major event at a 56,000-seat professional sports venue, a critical1960s-era chiller failed catastrophically. Even though another company held the service contract onthe chillers, management decided to call in ACI. With little time to work with, ACI conducted a searchfor a compatible chiller available for immediate shipment. One day later a chiller which ACI locatedin Florida was shipped. ACI work crews removed the failed chiller and had a crane ready and waitingon-site when the replacement chiller arrived. ACI’s experienced work crews had the chiller installedand running in time to cool the venue prior to the event. The event went on as planned and fans neverknew about the failure. The facility management also wasted no time in entrusting their chillermaintenance to ACI.
