Tour of the DetroitParade Company

Journey through the wonderland offantasy and floats, see the world’slargest papier-mache heads and learnthe secrets it takes to put on a Paradein “sparkles and majic“style. We have atour scheduled for Wednesday, May24th, and will go out to lunch afterward.The cost will be $9 for the tour andwhatever you spend on lunch will beyour additional cost. Please sign upearly in the month as the list will fillup fast.

2nd Annual AmericanHouse Senior Olympics!

Attention, All Participants!It is again that time to start

planning and thinking of theSenior Olympics events andshowing our sportsmanship. Weare competing against otherAmerican Houses this year as wedid last year. There are manygreat events that you are used toand it will be a great time.Applications will be available May1st and will need to be turned inNO LATER than July 5th. TheOlympics will be held the week ofAugust 7-11th. Please look forupdates.

Take Me Out tothe Ballgame!

There is a trip planned forThursday, June 8th, to go to theLansing Lugnuts. The cost for theticket is $11.00 and lunch onyour own. This will be an all-dayevent so be prepared to bringyour sun visors and sunglasses.Money will be collected the dayyou sign up. Seats are limited.

wheelchair lift capable of lifting up to 300 pounds.The wheelchair cannot exceed 30 inches in width andthe van cannot accommodate electric wheelchairs.

to any meal. I hope you find theinformation in this article informativeand interesting.

• Sweet potatoes can bepurchased year-round.

• In 1920, the average Americanate 31 pounds of sweet potatoesper year. In 2007, the averageAmerican ate 5.3 pounds.

• Forty percent of the sweetpotatoes grown in the UnitedStates come from North Carolina.The crop grows best in warmclimates with plenty of sunshine.

• Most sweet potatoes are grownwithout the addition of anypesticides.

• Individuals living in Taiwanprepare and eat the leaves of thesweet potato plant.

• Street vendors in China sellbaked sweet potatoes to thepublic during the winter months.

• Three-fourths of a cup of sweetpotato provides 155 calories, 0grams of fat, and 3 grams ofprotein. It’s also a great source ofvitamin C, fiber and potassium.
