Lost Keys by Jan C. (cont’d)He took a white handkerchief out of

his back pocket and gently wiped hereyes and told her to “blow.”

For an instant their faces were inchesapart and she wondered what would itbe like to kiss him. But like all moments, before and since it passed, well... fleetingly.

He stood up and he was at least sixfeet tall, with dark hair, two days’growth on his face and stormyblue-gray eyes. His shoulders werebroad and his arms strong, ending incapable looking hands.

“Now tell me what’s wrong and I’ll tryto make things right,” he exclaimed.“I’m not Tom Harris, by the way.”

“Joanna Bartholomew. Pleased tomeet you.” She offered her hand and heenveloped it in his larger one.

“I’ve lost my keys. My phone is deadso I can’t call my best friend Gail, whohas a spare, the landlord is out until5:00 and and my cat is hungry.” It allcame out in a rush.

“My phone’s charged. Do you knowGail’s number?” he inquired. He handedher his Samsung and she entered Gail’slandline. After 5 rings it went to voicemail. When she entered Gail’s cell, thesame thing happened. This time she lefta message explaining her situation.

“It’s just my luck,” she told Tom, whohad a nice smile. “Gail’s not home andfor some strange reason, she’s notanswering her cell.”

“I have and idea,” he told her. Shelooked up at Tom. She had a heartshaped face with enormous ambereyes, a pert nose and a full sensuousmouth. Tom found it hard to resist her.

“What is it?” she asked.

“If you’ll let me accompanyyou, together we could retraceyour steps and perhaps if we’relucky find your keys.” This timeTom was the one lookinghopefully at Joanna.

“That’s so nice of you. Are yousure I’m not imposing?”

“No, of course not. How couldI leave a damsel in distress?Shall we be off?” He helped herup and held her hand a fractionof a second longer thannecessary.

Joanna got a thrill all the wayto her toes. “Ooh!” she thoughtwondering what it would be liketo...well never mind.

Similar thoughts raced throughTom’s head. But he caughthimself. “Let’s concentrate onhelping the nice, beautiful ladyfind her keys.”

They walked downMeadowlark Lane under acanopy of red and gold autumnleaves. The day was acomfortable 65 degrees. Tomand Joanna were both dressedfor the weather. Tom in wellfitting faded jeans and a huntergreen pullover; Joanna in a navycable knit sweater and leggings, which showed off her shapelylegs.

They reached the EdwardEverdene Bridge, which crossedover the sleepy George River. She stumbled over the unevenpavement and he steadied her. This time Tom did not relinquishJoanna’s hand.

Event!You came down

from Heaven to saveus from our sins.

You came to earthso we could go in.

The Bible says youcame to earth so wecan be whole.

When He callsyou, He will tell youwhat to do.

He called me andHe will call you.

What are youwaiting for? Yourprice is free.

Jesus paid theprice-His Life!

I like to share thegospel with mychildren andgrandchildren so

they can knowJesus as I do.

I want to tell themto be proud of theU.S., fly their flag. Bea real woman, be areal man. Get on yourknees, say a prayer, bow your head in aminute of silence forthe injured and dead.

They gave their lifefor the futuregenerations.
