The Choice Seer

Thousands of years ago the Great Creator, Lord of heaven and earth, heard the cries of His people. Enslaved for hundreds of years the Israelites waited for the promise to be fulfilled; a deliverer to come and lead them out of bondage. Exodus 1:10-11

At the same time, while tending sheep in the wilderness, Moses sees a strange site; a bush burning without consuming itself. He thought this was very odd so he drew closer to see what it was. He was awe struck when a voice called to him from out of that flaming bush, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

“ I have seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cries and know their sorrow.” Genesis 5

So the stage was set for a people who had been slaves to be set free.

Years later it was discovered that there would be another Moses. The prophecies concerning this one were part of many Native Americans oral history. Also it was written about in the record translated from ancient plates by the Power of the Great Creator through seers stones mounted in a bow – like glasses.

We read the words on the title page of this presentation taken from the writings of Joseph, “he shall do a work of great worth . . .” II Nephi 3:7

It is hard for us to imagine sometimes that there might be a need for a deliverer. After all, are we actually slaves to anyone? Do we not have the ability to choose our destiny? Can we not live the life that we desire? Good questions.

Jesus Christ made this statement that you hear quoted quite frequently, “Man shall not live by bread alone,”

But the second part of that statement

goes unquoted and carries the most weight, “but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.” (Luke 4:4)

There is strong evidence that we have needs that we do not often recognize. How about those Israelites who were enslaved? Every day they dreamt of freedom from the drudgery of their life. But they had no idea what their Great Creator had in store for them.

Nor could we say at this point in time do we necessarily see what is in store for us. We do have a rich history, legacy, tradition and belief that the same God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who called Moses into service will call another who is a Native American.

This is clearly spoken about in the Book of Mormon by the Prophet Lehi before he passed from this life. He taught his sons what he received from the Lord concerning the Choice Seer.

II Nephi Chapter 3

The Choice Seer

Lehi spoke with great clarity concerning prophecies written on plates of brass that he possessed which contained many ancient writings of the Patriarchs. Especially, Joseph the son of Jacob (Israel). Sold in Egypt by his brothers he became noted for his ability to interpret dreams and visions. Genesis 40

The Choice SeerIt is recorded this way,

Lehi said “Joseph truly saw our day. And he obtained a promise of the Lord, that out of the fruit of his loins

[descendants] the Lord God would raise up a righteous branch unto the house of Israel; not the Messiah, but a

branch which was to be broken off,” II Nephi 3:5

This was promised to Joseph by his father Jacob, “Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose

branches run over the wall”

Genesis 49:22

Choice SeerThe prophecy voiced by Jacob (Israel) was:

“Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well; whose branches run over the wall. The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him. But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel). Even by the God of thy father, who shall help thee; and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb. The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors unto the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.” (Genesis 49:22-26)

Choice SeerLet’s rewrite the blessing without the King James English and with explanatory words inserted for the imagery used by Jacob. “Joseph will have many descendants, of which some will be by the sea and of which some will cross it to another land. There are people who will abuse his descendants and hate them. But the mighty God of Jacob shall be with them, cause them to prosper, and eventually rescue them through the work of a choice servant (or seer). Their blessings from God will be great and will envelope all of their people and those who are associated with them. God’s blessings on Jacob are even greater than those of his father and grandfather, including the receipt of a land that has mountains from one end to another. Great blessings will rest like a crown on Joseph, who was separated from his brothers and on his descendants who were separated from their people.”

Lehi continues “For Joseph truly testified, saying: A seer shall the Lord my God raise up, who shall be a choice seer unto the fruit of my loins (descendants).” II Nephi 3:6

A seer is one who has the abilities of a prophet (present and future) yet is also able to read and translate ancient languages (the past) by the power of God. A person who is easily recognized as a man of God – a holy man.

Joseph records, “And unto him will I (the Lord) give commandment

that he shall do a work for the fruit of thy loins (his descendants), his brethren, which shall be of great worth unto them, even to the bringing of them to the knowledge of the covenants which I have made with thy fathers (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob).” II Nephi 3:7

The Choice Seer

To summarize this we might say we can conclude that the Lord revealed that two important events would occur. to Joseph in Egypt. One day He (the Lord) would raise up Moses to deliver the Israelite Nation out of Egypt which happened . Also, one day he will raise up a descendant of Joseph (a native of the Americas) to be similar to Moses in helping to restore and deliver Joseph’s descendants in the Americas in the near future.

“And he [American Indian Moses – Choice Seer] shall be great like unto Moses, whom I have said I would raise up unto you, to deliver my people, O house of Israel.” II Nephi 3:9

He may come from any tribe or nation of the Americas . . .
