American Language Institute Application Instructions The American Language Institute (ALI) provides an I-20 Form, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Student Status, for students who need to apply for an F-1 student visa in their home country. The ALI is a full-time intensive English program where you will learn and improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. If you plan to attend San Francisco State University (SF State) in the future, you can apply for the Conditional Eligibility Service. This service lets you know if your GPA (grade point average) is high enough to apply to SF State before coming to the US. If you are eligible to apply to SF State, you will receive a letter that can be used for your student visa interview as support of your plans for further US university study. Who can apply You must be: - a graduate of high school or secondary school, - and able to speak, understand, write, and read simple English sentences When to apply There is no deadline to apply, but allow time to apply for the F-1 visa (if needed). The ALI accepts students for each session on a first-come, first-served basis. See Session Dates & Fees for details. How to apply ALI must receive all required documents and fees before processing the application. American Language Institute Application Instructions

The American Language Institute (ALI) provides an I-20 Form, Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Student Status, for students who need to apply for an F-1 student visa in their home country.

The ALI is a full-time intensive English program where you will learn and improve your reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. If you plan to attend San Francisco State University (SF State) in the future, you can apply for the Conditional Eligibility Service. This service lets you know if your GPA (grade point average) is high enough to apply to SF State before coming to the US. If you are eligible to apply to SF State, you will receive a letter that can be used for your student visa interview as support of your plans for further US university study.

Who can apply You must be:

DEPENDENTS INFORMATION If your spouse and/or child(ren) (under 21) will come to live with you while you study at ALI, they will need to apply for F2 visas. F2 visa holders cannot work or attend formal academic programs at a college or university. It is recommended that all dependents have health insurance. You need to show additional funds to support your dependent(s): add $7500 for your spouse and/or $5000 for each child. Submit a copy of each dependent’s passport and fill out the information below.
