A Message from the Chapter President.

Hello Fellow Chapter Members,

Well, here we are heading into the summer season with what I hope are lots of events lined up for

members to participate in if they are so inclined. Your Board members and officers have been

very active in trying to come up with different types of events that would offer something for every

taste. While this is a new direction for us and is still in its infancy, I believe that we are making

progress and the future holds great promise.

I would like to take a moment to offer a large thank you to all for a well-attended and successful

pot-luck lunch and general meeting at the LeMay’s facility in Marymount April 22nd. This was my

first event, meeting, as chapter president and while it was great, there is a steep learning curve,

so please bear with me. There was an amazing amount of GREAT food items and after lunch, a

spirited general meeting followed that generated lots of good ideas for the coming year. Also,

V.P. Mike Slade gave a great report on the upcoming July 8th chapter truck show at the fair-

grounds in Elma. We do need more volunteers to help with staffing the show. If you are willing to

help, please contact Mike Slade as soon as possible.

For the sake of openness I know that some of my fellow members are aware that I am a commer-

cial fisherman and spend the summer in SE Alaska fishing. My wife and I decided last year that

this was a good time to put up our boat and fishing license up for sale. Unfortunately, we still

have the boat and permit so I will be returning to SE Alaska in early June to participate in this

year’s commercial salmon season. We anticipate that I will be back in Seattle by mid to late Au-

gust. While I will miss many of this summer’s events, I have complete confidence that the Board

and my fellow officers will carry on and do a great job in my absence. I look forward to seeing

everyone this fall.

Keep on Trucking! B.J.

Northwest Chapter American Truck Historical Society

General membership Meeting Minutes

CALL TO ORDER: President B.J. King called the meeting to order at 12:20 PM

Introductions: After welcoming all the members who had come to the meeting and potluck, B.J.

introduced Ken Colman as an interested in old trucks friend from Alaska. B.J. also introduced

Nancy LeMay and thanked her for her continued support of the chapter and the use of the great

meeting space. Nancy graciously said to feel free to enjoy the day here at Marymount.

Vice President’s Report: Mike Slade had no report.

Secretary/Newsletter: Al reported his first venture at sending out an email notice went fairly well.

B.J. stated those who have not provided an email address should try and do so as we would like

to be able to get in touch with membership quicker than just through the newsletter. Doug Nichols

made a motion pass on the reading of the previous meeting minutes as they were published in

the March newsletter. Motion seconded and passed.

Treasures Report: Doug Nichols reported our treasury is $4407 with dues still trickling in. Grays

Harbor Fairgrounds has been sent a check for $350 to secure the site for our 2017 Truck Show.

Truck Show: Mike Slade reported this year, show hours will be from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Regis-

tration will be from 7:00AM until 10:00 AM. Pre-registration is highly encouraged. A pre-

registration form will be in the next newsletter to make it easier and faster to get in and set for a

great day. 8 1/2 x 11 and 11 x17 posters were made available for members to place at local busi-

nesses that are willing to post them. Mike described the need for volunteers so no one ends up

over working and not getting to enjoy the show. Mike has talked to the group putting on the trac-

tor pull next door and they will have food vendors and we are welcome to come and enjoy. The

goal this year is simplify and make it fun for everyone. Gary McCann’s Macks were selected as

the 2017 Feature Truck and will be featured at our events for the whole year. Members were re-

minded that it is not too early to start submitting trucks for the 2018 Feature Truck of the year.

The 2018 truck will be chosen at the November 2017 general meeting.

New Business Wayne Strong brought up the idea of having a swap meet. This was also talked

about at the board meeting and was well received. Maybe in the Fall.

For the good of the order: Judy Watkins reported that the Run to Longview is all set. Trucks are

to be parked at Lemmons by 9:30 AM. Lemmons have indicated their shops and collections will

be open for our viewing enjoyment. There will be a catered lunch again this year!! This year is

special in that John Lemmon will be celebrating his 80th birthday. For those who have not attend-

ed before, this run is unique because it is open to ATHS and our Chapter members only. It is not

open to the public. Judy indicated there will be a 10-minute meeting.
