Once a month, my good friends and I venture down to

Irvine, CA for “Cars and Coffee.” Open to anyone, it’s

a free event where LA and Orange County’s finest cars

assemble for their owner’s, and our, viewing pleasure.

On any weekend you can see a wide variety of moving

sculptures depending on which “club” has decided to

show up. Some weekends have BMW’s from every decade

until now. It just so happened that I showed up to see a

Mercedes-Benz AMG club.

The cars are beautiful, of course, and we walked past

each badge, in the presence of millions upon millions of

dollars in fine, automotive brilliance. As we went from

car to car, I began to pay attention to the owners of each,

proudly standing by their treasures. It came upon me that

each of these vehicles was owned by a personality, and

with the cost of these cars making them out of common

reach, they were big personalities, indeed.

Instead of doing a traditional overview of car models, it

seemed much more interesting to do an overview of the

types of owners that fit each car. Thus, the inspiration

for this book was found.

The quote is unrelated to anything that I’ve said here, I

just thought it was fitting.
