26 th May 2014: Firstly I created a rough overview of my main report. Then, I started with gathering facts on this interesting topic. While learning about this I got to know about some second and third generation techniques of EOR which are as follows-

Water Flooding (Water Injection) Gas Injection Carbon Dioxide Flooding Steam Injection and in-situ burning Surfactants or foam injections Microbial Enhance Oil Recovery Methods

27 th May 2014: Focused more deeply on this topic and about the origin of the need of this method.

WHAT IS MICROBIAL ENHANCE OIL RECOVERY? Use of microbes to improve oil recovery, established by Beckman 1926 How much additional oil can be produced? Up to 60% oil in place after

primary recovery.

First experiments in 1926 First practical demonstration in 1940 by Claude Zobel First patent in 1944 1950’s Americans took interest

29 th May 2014: Now the question arises Why do we need to employ MEOR when we are already producing oil?

Peak oil predictions are falling Previously un-extractable oil reserves

are more-costly to produce Remaining well reserves require more

costly-stimulation

ADVANATGES OF MICROBIAL ENHANCE OIL RECOVERY-

Less expensive setup Fast and easy application Increases oil production Reduced Corrosion Low energy input requirement

DISADVANATGES OF MICROBIAL ENHANCE OIL RECOVERY-

Oxygen deployed in aerobic MEOR can act as corrosive agent or non-resistant topside equipment and down-hole piping

Anaerobic MEOR requires large amount of sugar limiting its applicability in offshore platforms

Then I found some cases of Microbial Enhance Oil Recovery and read them in detail.
