INTRODUCTION• In 1451 Christopher Columbus was born into a family of

wool workers near the Mediterranean port of Genoa. • His first voyage was in the Atlantic Ocean in 1476 which

nearly cost him his life.• He was took part in several expeditions to Africa. • He received credit for opening up “The Americas” to

European colonization.

SUMMARY • Christopher Columbus wrote a letter as sea on February 15,

1493. • In the letter he talks about the details of the islands that

were discovered on his first voyage to the West Indies. • He wrote a second letter on July 7th, 1503. • In the letter he complains about the fact that he felt he did

not get the credit he deserved for opening up South and Central America to the Spanish.

• He also wrote a lot about his actual travels on this particular voyage.
