Trainers from Economic Developers Alberta and the InternationalEconomic Development Council will be running this interactive, bootcamp style course.

Sarah Garcia, Senior Economic Development Associate, IEDC- Sarah is acertified planning professional with 25 years of experience in planning and economicdevelopment. She manages IEDC's Economic Development and Resiliency grants,develops grant applications; coordinates IEDC's technical assistance; and has been aresearcher and expert advisor on teams in Colorado, Kentucky, Mississippi, RhodeIsland, New Jersey, North Carolina and West Virginia, and virtually to 6 other states.

Howard Pierpont, CEO, DERA Institute for Preparedness and Resilience-Howard has over 30 years of business continuity and resilience experience. As theChair of the International Association for Disaster Preparedness and Response, helinks professionals, volunteers, and organizations active in all phases of disasterpreparedness and emergency management. He is also a former FEMA Reservistserving in the Disaster Field Training Organization and National Disaster RecoveryFramework Community Recovery Assistance Cadre; and has helped communitiesrecover from natural disasters including flooding in North Dakota and Pennsylvania,tornadoes in North Carolina, Hurricane Irene in Vermont, and Super Storm Sandyin New Jersey and Connecticut.

Leann Hackman-Carty, CEO, Economic Developers Alberta- In 2014, Leanncompleted a project with 10 Alberta flood impacted communities and Treaty 7Community Futures (Siksika/Stoney). She also Canadianized the Recovery andResiliency Roadmap: A Toolkit for Economic Preparedness for communities to use inpreparing for and recovering from economic disruptions. Since May 2016, she'sworked with the Wood Buffalo region on business and economic recovery by setting upand operating the a business hotline; validating businesses for Red Cross emergencyrelief; and leading a 10-member economic recovery assessment team to the region.Bringing IEDC's resiliency training to Canada is her most recent achievement.

Angela Groeneveld, Business and Economic Development Specialist- Angela ispassionate about seeing and seizing opportunities for entrepreneurs to increase theirperformance. Most recently she has contracted her services as a BusinessDevelopment Specialist for the Town of High River. Previously she was the Town’sBusiness Renewal Officer, overseeing Phase 1 & 2 recovery efforts and assisting localbusinesses to rebuild after the 2013 floods. In 2016, Angela helped create andimplement the Wood Buffalo Recovery Hotline, and inform the region's Business andEconomic Disaster Recovery Plan. In January 2017, she volunteered as a member ofEDA's technical team to Fort McMurray.
