Introduction of the Organization

History

MCB Bank Limited, with more than 60 years of experience as one of the leading banks in Pakistan, was incorporated on July 9 in 1947. The bank has journeyed remarkable tenure of more than half a century of competitively edged and well positioned heights of success by deploying quality banking, heads on technological developments, professionally leading management and prudent and ethical work methodologies. MCB was nationalized along with other private banks in 1974 as part of Government of Pakistan's economic reform movement and was later privatized to Nishat Group lead consortium in 1991.

Since privatization, MCB's growth has been phenomenal. Today, MCB in one of the largest foreign banks in Sri Lanka, the first bank in Pakistan to launch Global Depository Receipts (GDR) in 2006, has strategic foreign partnership with Maybank of Malaysia which holds 20% shares in MCB through its wholly owned subsidiary Mayban International Trust (Labuan) Berhad since 2008, has international indirect regional presence in Dubai (UAE), Bahrain, Azerbaijan, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka and serving through a domestic network of over 1,130 branches and 600 ATMs across Pakistan with a customer base of 4.5 million (apprx.)

MCB is reputed as one of the most sound financial institution and as one of the leading banks in Pakistan with a deposit base of PKR. 462 bln (apprx.) and total assets of PKR 605 bln (apprx.). The bank is versed as one of the oldest and most responsible banks in Pakistan and has played pivotal role in representing the country on global platforms while being one of the few institutions that are recognised and traded in the international market.

The bank has also been acknowledged though prestigious recognition and awards by Euromoney, MMT, Asia Money, SAFA (SAARC), The Asset and The Asian Banker.

If new Branch is open in the any city of NORTH Site. IT Take decision and coordinate with others IT Centers those are in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad with take approvals those are given by Regional Head of the IT Centers.

Organizational Culture

IT Center Islamabad give the good Environment to the Employees and Complaints holders. There are different Departments in IT Center which work in good Environment and all the employees of IT Department those are very Cooperated, Hard working and Energetic. It Resolve the different issues which arises in North Site Branches of MCB Bank ltd with the hard and fast Service. All Employees are working in Friendly Environment in MCB IT CENTER Islamabad.

Purpose Of Internship

Reason of Choice

I am a Student of BS(IT) in PRESTON UNIVERSITY ISLAMABAD. I am interested in Networking. This is my internship semester and I have submitted the internship report and letter in our university from giving by the IT Center of MCB BANK Ltd organization. That’s why I prefer the IT Center of MCB BANK Ltd to complete Internship. Because MCB BANK Ltd if very popular and the Best Organization in the Pakistan and I think we learn more and more in it. It gives Good Environment to the Employees and Internees. All the Employees help me out to use and manage the whole process of the network.

Key Operation Of the Group

There are four Groups those are handle the Different support of North Site branches of MCB Bank ltd.

LAN Support Network WAN Support Network ATM Support Network Hardware Support Network

LAN Support Network

1. Monitoring and maintaining computer system and network.2. Troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults.3. Finding solutions to problems.4. To provide support Hardware/Software Operating System and different application those are use in

Computer with proper documentation including procedural documentations.5. To run network applications to support system and users. 6. Setting up new users on LAN7. Working continuously on a task until completion.

WAN Support Network

1. Monitoring of Different LAN/WAN Technologies in MCB Bank ltd i.e. WIMAX, DXX, VSAT etc for smooth working of entire MCB Network.

2. Monitoring of Different Cisco Series Routers and Switches3. Monitoring of different Juniper Series Routers and Switches.4. Trouble shooting of all LAN/WAN ISSUES.5. LAN IP assigning, Configuration and Trouble shooting of different LAN issues.

ATM Support Network

1. Customers services regarding ATM.2. Handling procedures for ATM site proposition to its activations eighth the coordination of Business and

interrelated departments.3. Handling procedures for maintaining uninterrupted power supply environment in all the ATM Sites.4. Coordinating with Services Providers regarding ATM Operational issue, ATMs Projected and UPS

provisions.5. Handling Updating Procedure of Software related with ATMs in branches.

Hardware Support Network

1. Maintaining Records of Hardware (Manual + Inventory Software).2. Procedure of IN and OUT in MCB IT CENTER (Gate pass + Registration Software).3. How to claim warranty (Check Serial Number whether it is in warranty or not).4. How to prepare Gate Pass (Name of Branches/Hardware Serial No and Signature of both parties).5. Procedure for Repairing Hardware Devices.(Three Quotations, Approval, Bill Processed).

Personal Objectives

I have learned much about the networking and the whole network of MCB Bank Ltd. About how to communicate and handle the different issue and complains of MCB Branches. I understand the configuration of the Router and Switches through Remotely access or other Application. At this stage I can easily configure the IPs on the Routers and Switches Ports with security. Easily finding the issue come in the communication networks. I can accomplish the issues of LAN/WAN and ATM support network.

Overview of Process:-

LAN Support Network

LAN Supports Network Monitoring the Computer processes and different issues those are come in Computer of MCB Branches. Trace the issue and resolve the problem through different techniques. Find LAN network problem through trouble shooting the system and Check the Local lead both connector through LAN Cable Connector Tester those are connected with switch to computer LAN Network Card ports. If cable connector is damage then change the connector through crimping tools or If Cable is damage then Change the cable and assign the IP in Network Connection. If the Computer icon those are show on the screen behind the time. If it is blinking then it shows the Network is connected. If not blinking this It is not connected. If any application is not running then LAN Support Network department take the session of the Computer through the net meeting or team viewer and check the issue if it is not resolve error by changing the setting then reinstall the software and other application for resolve the faults. When any user who lock the complain in Service Desk of MCB IT Centre Islamabad. Then it tells the issue according to the problem comes. Then assign the ticket with the complain and send to LAN support network. Then Team is finding the solution of problems and resolves the issue. E-NOTES is a new advance technology use for evaluating and testing how is the performance of E-NOTES and how many users like it for using and finding different kinds of errors that come in E-NOTES application for sending the mail from multiuser. E-NOTES application perform multi-

task link creating and sending e-mail from multiuser and other things like MS Word and MS EXCEL is also include in it. Checking the Conducting electrical/grounding and structured cabling checks on computer equipments.

WAN Support Network

Monitoring of Different LAN/WAN Technologies in MCB Bank ltd with the help of different networks those are use for communication i.e. WIMAX, DXX, and VSAT etc for smooth working of entire MCB Network. If any error or protocol is down of WIMAZ, DXX, VSAT then MCB IT Centre ISLAMABAD send the mail to Network Companies for resolving the issue. Monitoring of Different Cisco Series Routers and Switches in different branches are handled by the network of MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD. If Routers and Switches ports of branches are not working then it checks through the different interfaces and IPs which are configured in it. If the protocol interface of the router is down due to power or other issue then it resolve it by different technique i.e. first check the Router by the help of its configuration with Remotely access by Telnet interface and juniper interface. If Router damages by power then change the router and Remotely configure all the ports and tunnel again. Then connect the switch on the configure port of the Router. All the Computers of branches configure by their ports of the Switches and connect the Network Devices ports connected on their desired configure port. Connect the switch ports with computer LAN card through the LAN cable and then assign the IP in the Computer Network Connection of the Computers. MCB IT Centre Karachi Create the series of IPs those are only use in Router and Switches for their desired Branch. These IPs also assign and handle by Telnet and other’s command for Shut or no shut port with security of the Router or Switch. The other’s computer or laptop’s are not allowed due to some security and restriction of the Switches and Routers of the MCB Bank LTD.

ATM Support Network

ATM Support Department provide the Good support to all the ATM Branches for Maintaining the ATM Machine. If any issue come in the ATM Machine then it take action according to the issue and resolve the issue as soon as possible. It provide facility to Account holder of MCB Bank Ltd to access the ATM Machine easily and withdraw the cash.

If any ATM Machine is Activate in the Branch or the Off Site Branch then Business Head Coordinate with each other and also coordinate with interrelated departments. If their coordinate successfully then they send the quotation to related department and Business head for approval of Activation of the ATM Machine. If ATM Support Network department get the Approval of ATM Machine then it take further decision. They higher the Vander and give the approval of Activation of ATM Machine in the desire Branch or Off site Branch. ATM Support Network also handles procedures for maintaining uninterrupted power supply environment in all the ATM Sites like UPS or GENERATOR. MNET provide the service and application of ATM Machine for the user friendly purpose and Customer easily understand and access the application for withdraw the Cash through ATM Machine. They also handle the updating procedure of Software related with ATMs Machine in branches or OFF site Branch.

Hardware Support Network

Hardware Support network of North MCB IT Centre Islamabad provide the support for All hardware machines or devices that are used in the MCB Bank Ltd in North Branches. Like Computers, Routers, Switches, UPS, Scanner, Printers, Servers and other Network or Computer Accessories. They maintain the records of all the Hardware that are use in MCB Bank LTD in North with manually and Inventory Software. If any hardware is damaged then the desire branch send the Hardware to MCB IT CENTER NORTH it check and if it is damage then it claim warranty with the

Serial Number those are mentioned on it. If the warranty is over then it send to the vender or related company for repairing. Before sending the hardware it fills the Gate pass and also save information in Registration Software. They write the hardware name and its serial number with desired name of branch and signature the Gate pass with both parties. Before claiming warranty of hardware device they get Three Quotations, Approval, and Bill Processed.

Self Assessment

I am satisfied now from the working in MCB IT CENTRES NORTH ISLAMABAD. Because I have learned much about the networking and the whole network of MCB Bank Ltd. At this stage I can easily configure the IPs on the Routers and Switches Ports with security. Easily finding the issue come in the communication networks. I can accomplish the issues of LAN/WAN and ATM support network. Am able to compete the challenges in the market. If MCB BANK Ltd ISLAMABAD gives me a chance to work in it, then it will be my pleasure to work here.

I have done LAN Support Network, WAN Support Network, ATM Support Network, and Hardware Support Network. I can easily configure the IPs on the Routers and Switches Ports with security. Easily finding the issue come in the communication networks. I can accomplish the issues of LAN/WAN and ATM support network.

SWOT Analysis Strength

The strengths of MCB are as:

MCB is the first Pakistani privatized bank and because of its quality management, MCB IT CENTRE, innovation in products and services is performing well in MCB IT CENTER NORTH ISLAMABAD.

Has established a good reputation in the banking market. Strict adherence with the banking procedures requirements, SBP’s prudential

regulation. Requirement as well as to its own set policies. Strong and its attractive products. Better focus on customer services and customization. Flexibility with the changing environment. Induction of the highly qualified professionals to change overall set up.

Weakness The noted weaknesses of MCB are as:

The majority of people are not well aware about the products of MCB.

A behavior has been noted that bank tries to feel at ease with good looking, rich and educated people and the poor looking customers feel some bit strange in the environment of the bank. The bank employees should try to accommodate behaviorally all type of customers.

In MCB there is lack of specialized skill because of job rotation policy of IT Center department. The bank should concentrate upon increasing its abilities on individual service basis.

Process of development is bit slow due to its conservative approach. Never prefer to be a leader and prefer to be a follower of others.

Opportunities Greater potential and opportunities for networking Policies being adopted. Inclusion of highly qualified professional can change the whole scenario and

position of the bank if they have given the due liberty in performing their duties. Adoption of information technology will improve the customer services.

Threat The Competition has become severe by the entrants of so many banks, So to

exist one will have to prove himself in its services through excellent management and will have to satisfy its Complain holders. Otherwise he will be out the market.

Employees unions have been allowed if not managed properly can affect performance.

The decrease purchasing power of consumer in the current economic situation of the country affecting the Networking activity speed too much and the result is the low investment from the investors in new projects can create problem for the bank because it is working a lot in trade.

Introduction and adoption of information technology as well as promotion of the computer culture by the local as well as foreign banks will definitely affect the services of the MCB.

Problem Identification

There are different types of errors and problems those are come in Network and there are many different technique for finding the problems or errors.

LAN Support Network

If any problem come in the computer’s of different branches then branches dial the calls on Service Desk MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD. They talk to each other and tell which king of issue those are related to LAN Department. Then they lock the complain with ticket and sent E-Mail to the LAN Support Network. LAN Support Network employees communicate on Telephonic communication. They get session of the computer and find the problem and solve the issue i.e. If E-NOTES application is not open the e-mail the check the setting. If settings are wrong then change the setting and reopen the E-Notes application. E-mails are show in E-Notes.

WAN Support Network

If any problem come in the computer’s of different branches then branches dial the calls on Service Desk MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD. They talk to each other and tell which king of issue those are related to WAN Support Network. Then they lock the complain with ticket and sent E-Mail to WAN department. WAN Support Network employees communicate on Telephonic communication. If network of branch is down or computers are not connected to the network then they check the Switch ports by the Juniper Management Interface. They show which port is disable and enable. If any computer is connected on the Juniper Switch port but it is not connected then check the port of switch by Telnet command and enable and disable the ports with commands. If there port is connected but firewall is on mode on the computer then computer is not connected with network. OFF the firewall and check. Computer must be connected with the network.

ATM Support Network

If any problem comes in the ATM Machine of different branches then branches dial the calls on Service Desk of MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD. They talk to each other and tell which king of issue come in ATM Machine. Then they lock the complain with ticket and sent E-Mail to the ATM Support Network. ATM Support Network employees communicate on Telephonic communication and find the problem i.e. there is no money in ATM Machine for transaction. ATM Machine is Power OFF due to Power Issue. If any internal issue come in ATM Machine like ATM Card not been accepted or Paper Error then give the permission to the wander to check and resolve the issue.

Hardware Support Network

If any problem comes in the Hardware Machine of different branches. Then branches dial the calls on Service Desk MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD. They talk to each other and tell which king of issue come in

Hardware. Then they lock the complain with ticket and sent to the E-Mail to Hardware Support Network. Hardware Support Network employees communicate on Telephonic communication and find the problem. If any hardware is not working and damage then branches dispatch the hardware devices to MCB IT CENTRE ISLAMABAD and they check what the issue is.

Suggestions & Recommendations

From the quantum of the profit and its financial data it can easily judged the after privatization MCB Bank Ltd is performing well. MCB IT Center Islamabad growing day-by-day in efficiency and activities. The controlling body is responsible for the productive performance of the MCB IT CENTER. Following are my observations and suggestion to improve the efficiency for the development of the bank.

Increase in Efficiency MCB is making good Efficiency but giving less pay to their employees as compared to their competitors. So their salaries should be increased.

Improve the Technology Improvement comes in the technology in the MCB Bank Ltd day by day. For Improve the efficiency of networking sector for fast communication. They change the new technology device and service provider.

Training Every year some of the employees should be sent for training to other countries and employees from other branches should be brought here. Some more reading material should be provided the purpose should be to educate the employees with the advance studies in their field. The employee should be provided the opportunities to attend and participate in seminars and lectures on banking.

Performance and Reward Smart, educated, skilled, well spoken and well versed staff personals should be rewarded and appreciated, while on the other hand lazy, lethargic, heard and ill mannered must be warned

and penalized but this all should be on merit and considering the policy of honesty is the best policy and not due to some personal liking, disliking prejudice and patrimonial. It is therefore suggested certain schemes and checks may be introduced in banks to increase efficiency through reward and punishment system.

Internship Facilities The period of internship should be divided in to the number of department of the MCB Bank Ltd. The internee should be given timetable mentioning the number of days he has to work at different departments in the MCB IT Center North Islamabad. On the first 4 days in each department internee should be given a lecture the officer of the department concerned about working of the department.
