Abstract Effect of microstructure on the wear resistance of AG mill liners produced from an eutectoid low alloy steel
consist of 0.75wt.% carbon and 2wt.% chromium were evaluated. For this purpose, the selected heat treat-
ment cycles were applied to achievement of pearlitic, tempered martensite and bainitic microstructures. The
pin on disk wear test was used using abrasive wheel. Microstructural evaluations were done using optical and
scanning electron microscopes and mechanical behavior were measured using Vickers hardness, tensile and
charpy impact test methods. The results show that the wear resistance is not directly related to hardness and
is related to microstructural characteristics. Also, the fine pearlitic microstructure has wear resistance near to
bainitic microstructure that can be selected microstructure for the large steel castings.
