WHAT GOES IN AN ISN?

What is the purpose of the ISN?The purpose of the ISN is to enable you to be a creative, independent thinker and writer. Interactive notebooks wil l be used for class notes and activit ies in which you wil l be asked to express your own ideas and process the information presented in class. ISNs wil l help organize the content covered during class and should be used as a reference tool for completing assignments.

What materials do I need?Composition Book, Magazines, Scissors, Glue Stick, Markers /Colored Penci ls, Pens/Penci ls

What goes in my ISN?We wil l use graphical ly organized visuals to help you take notes, structuring them so that key ideas are clear and supported by examples from class activit ies, discussions, or other assignments. Your notebook wil l be used for a variety of diff erent activit ies to preview learning and process new content to demonstrate understanding.

How will my ISN be graded?See ISN Grading Rubric on the next page.

What happens if I’m absent?I f you are absent, i t is your responsibi l i ty to obtain notebook assignments from a classmate or from the Interactive Teacher Notebook.

MY APPOINTMENT CLOCK

This activity involves an “Appointment Clock,” which is a way arranging for interaction with a partner.

Get up from your seats and catch the eye of someone you do not know.

Introduce yourself and exchange notebooks.Starting at the 12 o’clock position on your

“appointment clock,” write your name in that person’s notebook and vice versa.

Now locate another person you do not know and do the same for the 3 o’clock position.

Continue the process with 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock.

Take a piece of paper and place it vertically (tall).

VOCABULARY FOLDABLE

Fold it so that you end up with a right triangle and an extra flap.

Cut off the extra flap.

Now you have a square.

Fold the top corners inward so that it looks like a house.
