Sub-Theme/4: Politics And Christian Discipleship.Topic: Different Political Systems And Parties (Structures).Text: Rom. 13: 1-7; Dan.2:31-44.Aims: i. Identify the various political systems and their
structures;ii. Know the characteristics and norms of each;
iii. See the likely experiences of Christians in political parties.
Introduction
Nigeria operates a multi-party democracy, possessing political parties with fluid demarcations. Nigeria operates a type of federalism-there are many different types of it and with different demands. The parties gain control of governance through free and fair elections. Each party is expected to have well-structured systems, well-laid out party rules and manifestos. This study will provide some hints that should serve as a guide to Christians who engage and serve in politics.
Study Guide1.a) Which political system is Nigeria practicingcurrently
as a federation? Discuss its implications.b) Which political system should Christians advocate?
Why? Rom. 13:1-4withMatt.6:10. c) Can and should all Christians belong to one Party? Why?
Cf. Matt.5:13-16; 10:16; 2 Cor. 5:21.2. Read Daniel 2:31-44 and itemise the different political
regimes or systems, their characteristics and strengths.May these motivate our praying for Nigeria!
3. What possible roles and influence Christians can exert inpolitical parties? Prov. 11:11; Matt. 5:9, 13-16.
4. Read Prov. 3: 5-7; 16:3; Phil. 4: 6-7; I Pet.5:7 and discussthe requisite guidelines a Christian should consider whenchoosing a political party to join.
5. What should be the primary goal of Christians’involvement in a political system and belonging to a Party?Prov. 11: 30; Matt. 28: 18-20; John 3: 14-15; Eph. 5: 15-17.
ConclusionChristian Discipleship demands our knowing God’s will before we join a political party as well as God’s particular task for sending us there. As a Christian in politics you may not always have your expectations met, neither will you have it easy if you wish to please God. But some have succeeded; so you can also if you learn to depend on God.
Food For Thought:Truly discipled Christians mandated byGod to join politics cannot and should be overshadowed bydarkness in the political arena.

GAINS FROM HAVING GODLY WISDOM.
Wisdom is considered by many to be the art of learning how to succeed in life while some see wisdom as the Philosophical study of essence of life.
Apostle Paul in his first letter to the Corinthians described two kinds of wisdom. Wisdom of the world and wisdom of God. I Cor. 1:20-24. He considered the worldly wisdom as futile and presented Christ as the power of God and the wisdom of God. Undoubtedly, wisdom comes from God. ‘For the Lord gives wisdom, from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. Prov. 2:6. Wisdom begins with God, the moment you accept Christ as your Lord and Personal Saviour. You receive the grace to live above the wisdom of the world. Everything about you becomes unsearchable to the kingdom of darkness because you will begin to operate on higher level. That was the wisdom with which Joseph and Daniel operated that made them to affect their generations positively.
A look through the book of Proverbs reveals the gains from Godly wisdom as follows:
· It gives security of life. Prov. 4:6
· It brings honour, and promotion. Prov. 4:8
5. Towdah – Extending hands of thanksgiving for what God has done. Ps. 50:23
6. · Guides our steps and delivers us from troubles. Prov. 2:10-12
· Wisdom makes man prudent and gives knowledge. Prov. 8:1-12
Brethren, as Christians, we are called to live a separate and distinguished life. We must avoid worldly wisdom because it is foolishness in God’s sight. Let no one deceive himself, if anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. I Cor. 3:18-19. The wisdom of God is a mystery and could only be revealed to the upright.
May God grant us the grace to apply Godly wisdom in all that we do that we shall not be condemned on the last day.Happy New Month. Remain blessed in Jesus name.

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom and the man who gains understanding, for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver and her gain than fine gold. Proverbs 3:13-14.
May you have a fruitful week!
