Ontheleft,thesensormodulecircuitboardcontainsadigitalopticaldetectorsystem.ThisdetectorcontrolstheLEDsandconvertstheopticalsignalsreflectedfromtheuser’sskintodigitalformatandcommunicatesovertheinternalI2CbuswiththebuiltinPerformTek®processor.TheaccelerometerisalsoreadviatheinternalI2Cbusforactivitysignal.

2. ThemoduleboardcontainsthePerformTek®processorandallsensorcomponentsrequiredforHRandmotionmonitoring.ThePerformTek®processor,utilizingpatentprotectedtechnology,pollssensordataovertheinternalI2Cbusandconvertstherawmeasurementsintodataregistersofbiometricvalues(i.e.HeartRate,Cadence,VO2)andprocessesthosevaluesfurtherintohigherleveluserassessments(i.e.CaloriesBurned,Distance,VO2max,fitnesslevel).ThePerformTek®processorrunsValencell’spatentprotectedalgorithmstoconverttherawsignalstoaregisterarrayofbiometricvaluesandhighlevelassessments.ThesevaluesareavailableforreadingviatheUARTorI2Cfirmwareinterface.Inaddition,sensormodulediagnosticssuchassignalquality,errorcodes,andserialnumberIDareavailable.

Thereisanultrasonicweldribthatisdesignedalongtheinneredgeofthelensframe,asshowninFigure2andFigure3.Thisweldribisusedtoensureagoodsealusingultrasonicweldingtothecustomer’splasticenclosurebottom.Forultrasonicweldingdesignandprocessguidelinesaswellas3DCADmodelsofthesensormodule,pleasecontactValencell.

Themechanicaldesignhasbeenoptimizedtoreducetheimpactofthesensormoduleonindustrialdesign,especiallyintotalsensorheightwhenbuiltintothedevicehousing.Itisdesignedforeasyintegrationintothebottomshellofawristband,wristwatch,orarmbandwithpartofthemoduleprotrudingintotheinteriorofthewristproduct(~1mm),andpartprotrudingfromthebottomofthewristproduct(1.5mm).Thisdesignbalanceprovidesoptimalsensoraccuracywithminimaldisruptiontoothercomponentsoftheinterioroftheproductdesign.
