Schoolgets thego-aheadfor work● Churchfield celebrating asextension dream becomes reality

CORK CELEBRATES WORLD SOCIAL MEDIA DAY IN STYLE

SCOIL PADRE PIO inChurchfield is celebratingnews that work on its long-awaited extension is aboutto commence.

The extension is to include astate-of-the-art autism unit, schoolhall, multi-sensory room and re-source rooms.

It will also include refurbishmentof the existing building.

The school’s board of manage-ment has acquired an extra three-quarters-of-an-acre of land fromCork City Council to accommodatea staff car park.

Principal Ken Foley was delightedwith the announcement that thework on the school would now getunder way.

“We currently cater for 225 main-stream pupils, an additional four

early start classes and four autismclasses attached to our mainstreamschool. The school hall will be agreat addition to our school as weare involved in so many sportingactivities,” he said.

“It will be great to showcase ourschool choir, our newly formedschool band and all our dance anddrama activities.

“This extension will be of majorbenefit to the services we provide tothe students with autism, such asoccupational therapy and speechand language therapy.

“Scoil Padre Pio has always haddeep roots in the parish and com-munity and this extension ensuresthe continued growth of the schoolas it goes from strength tostrength,” added Mr Foley.
