•Students will bring their laptops to school every day and take it to every class

•Teachers will be using laptops frequently in their lessons as part of their normal teaching program.

Family information

• An information package is supplied as part of the handbook to support your understanding of safe, responsible and ethical use of digital technology.

Exiting the ProgramWhen a student leaves the laptop program, the following

procedure should be followed:

•Ensure all monies outstanding are paid to the Bursar

•Return the laptop to the IT Support Office to have relevant DEECD licenced software removed

•Sign a Program Exit form (attach to School Exit Form if relevant) indicating compliance with the above requirements

•Obtain advice on possible locations for future support or warranty claims should they eventuate

•Ensure that private insurance has been organised for the future.

Anti-virus Software

•All MacBooks & Netbooks have the latest Symantec anti-virus software installed. This will be updated automatically at school or home.

Copyright

•The installation of Torrent or other file sharing software is prohibited.

•Students breaching copyright for example, music and video files, will have their computer re-imaged.

The school network

•A school log-on program, when run, will allow students to connect to printers, Internet and storage drives.

Back-up Responsibilities•Students should back up there work

daily on an external hard drive kept at home.

•The school will not be responsible for lost student data.

•Once a year students will need to backup their data for re-imaging and on any other occasion if required to resolve problems.

MacBook - time machine

Caring for your computer• Your computer must be carried in its bag

at all times. Computers carried around the school buildings and yard out of their case will be confiscated and only released back directly to parents.

• Identity stickers are not to be removed from computers, bags or power supplies.

• No other stickers are to be fixed onto the computers or bags.

Caring for your computer•Your computer must be fully charged

when you arrive at school each morning, it can not be charged during the day.

•It must be taken to every class unless directed differently by a classroom teacher.

•You must not use your computer during recess or lunchtime, as the batteries need to last for six periods.

•Students can install legally purchased software or freeware on Macbooks & Netbooks in the 1:1 program.

•Computers will be re-imaged at the end of each year; keep copies of your personal software as it will need to be re-installed.

•Your computer must be stored in your school assigned, properly secured locker when not in use, including recess and lunchtime.

•Further details about caring for your computer can be found in the handbook.

Help Desk•A new IT Support Office has been

built expressly to support the program.

•An Apple Education help number is available on 1300 968 979. Quote the serial number of your machine and you can ask any questions about the Mac operating system or Apple software.

Insurance•Please refer to the handbook for a

detailed outline of the insurance policy.

•There is a $100 excess for each and every claim for Netbooks.

•There is a $250 excess for each and every claim for MacBooks.

Acceptable Use Agreement• Before collecting your

laptop at the end of this session each student and parent must sign an Acceptable Use Agreement

• A copy is included in your handbook for your reference

What Next?• At the end of the Hall laptops will be distributed in

alphabetical groupings according to your child’s last name.

• Each student and parent/guardian will need to sign the Acceptable Use Agreement and a form acknowledging the collection of the laptop.

• If there is payment still owing, you can see Marilyn near the door if you would like to take the laptop with you.

• Once you have received your laptop, please find a seat at the tables and log onto our school network. Staff will be available to assist you if required.

Passwords• The password set for all MacBooks is

Password1. For Netbooks it will be the students current password. If they have not logged onto the school network before, it will also be Password1.

• To change this password on a Netbook, press ctrl +alt +delete at log-on

• To change this password on a MacBook, you will need to alter it in system preferences, accounts.
