More Than One WayOne out of every five people attending a town rock concert came to support the local high school band. The band had 112 supporters. How many people were in the audience?

Daryl’s Method:

I see that 112 supporters equal one out of five audience members. I know there are five groups of 112 people in the audience.

So, there are 5 ∙ 112, or 560 audience members.

Tina’s Method:

I can represent the number of people in the audience as p. The number of supporters is p divided by 5. I can write the equation as and solve for p.

So, there are 560 people in the audience.
