Displacement reactions
The reactivity series of metals can be determined by carrying out displacement reactions.
When a metal salt reacts with a more reactive metal, the more reactive metal will displace the metal in the salt.

If the metal in the metal salt is more reactive, then no reaction will occur.
The metal ion in the salt is reduced by gaining electrons from the metal atom, which is oxidized.
