12 stages of film making!

The idea

• Inspiration is all around us. In the newspaper, books,plays,films-even a casual conversation

• The next step in the development of the project is to turn the rough idea into a final script ready for production. And this costs money.

Development finance

• With development finance secured. It is down to the writer to deliver the product that the producer and financiers want.

Script development

• with the script complete, the director and producer decide how they want to film it, and who they will employ to help them.

Packing

• Film making is an expensive business, and the producer must secure enough funding to make the film to the highest standard possible

Financing

• With the financing secured, the full cast and crew are hired, and detailed preparation for the shoot begins

Preproduction

• A large film production can involve hundreds of people, and it is a constant struggles to keep it on schedule and budget.

The shoot

• Post production usually starts during the shoot, as soon as the first rushes raw footage and sound- are available

Post production

• While the is still in the post, the producer is out selling. But she cant sell it directly to the public herself she needs a distributor.

Sales

• As the finishing touches are being made to the film in post, the distributors plan their strategy and being to market it.

Marketing

• Cinema exhibition is still the primary channel for the films to reach the audiences, and the box office success equals financial success.

Exhibition

• A successful run in cinemas make the film a sought-after product can then be sold through other more lucra tive channels.
