‘He prayed that he might die...’ 1 Kings 19:4 NKJElijah had just stood up to the prophets of the god Baal and the goddess Asherah. The people had gathered on Mount Carmel to watch the contest: in one corner, Elijah and, in the other, 850 of Baal and Asherah’s prophets. The result was a knockdown victory for Elijah: fire from Heaven had come in answer to his prayer. The false prophets were totally defeated.Enter, stage right: one very miffed monarch. You know the sort. She’s the type they used for a model for all the wicked queens in fairytales. Except that Jezebel was very real. And so nasty that when she tossed a death threat Elijah’s way, he folded completely. He was so scared he ran as fast as he could for the desert and begged God to let him die.His focus had shifted from God to his circumstances. The moment we start to dwell on problems instead of God, we too can become overwhelmed like Elijah. Now, God didn’t reach a hand through the clouds and instantly smite Jezebel, and neither did He zap Elijah straight to Heaven. Not yet, anyway. Instead God spoke to him in a ‘still small voice.’ (1 Kings 19:12 NKJ)Even those with great faith are not always strong. Every Christian, no matter what emotional state they are in, must continually come back to this place of quiet listening to God. What you really need is to meet with that still small voice. Let God whisper to your soul. Today, find a spot where you can be quiet for a few minutes and just be, with Him.- The Word for Today authored by Bob & Debby Gass

Campus Lockdown UPDATEWe had an emergency lockdown at school yesterday as a result of an electrical fault in the alarm/lockdown system. While it wasn’t an actual lockdown event or drill, all the students responded in a quick and sensible manner which was fantastic.The electrical fault that triggered the alarm has been fixed and we don’t anticipate any further false alarms.
Mothers Day Stall - Friday, 10 MayA Mother Holds her childs hand a while, but their heart forever...Get set for your children to shop from a beautiful array of gifts. This year we are going to have a guessing competition so stay tuned as there are a few of the very On Trend Decor Signs on offer for a few lucky Mums.Although the shopping experience is available to just Primary school, the guessing competition will be open to Primary and High School giving all a chance to take home one of these fantastic gifts.
Pre-Kindy, Kindy & Year 7 in 2014If you have a sibling of a current student who is ready to starting Pre-Kindy, Kindy or Year 7 next year and you have not lodged an application for enrolment form then please do so ASAP. The enrolment process for year 7 students is about to start and we would not like you to miss out on a position in the school. Please contact Kim in the Administration office if you have any questions regarding enrolment.
Items Needed for High School Tent at Big CampThis year staff from school are running programs in the High School tent at Big Camp.I’m after a few items for a ‘hang out’ area that will be attached to the tent. Could you please contact me if you are wanting to off load any of these items:• Bean bags• Large picture frames (glass and backs no
necessary). Approx 60x40cm or larger. Any shape (oval, round, square, rectangular)

Thank you to all our returning Pathfinders who came to Club Night wearing their Dress Uniform. You all looked great! Always remember that this uniform represents something very special and should be worn with pride. When wearing it you are part of something much bigger than just our local Club as this uniform is worn by thousands of Pathfinders around Australia, not to mention worldwide … how cool is that. We had absolutely glorious weather for our Beach morning last Sunday and our Pathfinders all had a wonderful time. Thank you to the parents who assisted our Leaders on the day to ensure its success. We have only one item of lost property from the morning, a red size 12 Quicksilver Rashie. If this is yours please contact Leanne to arrange pick up.This coming weekend our Pathfinders, their Leaders and parent helpers will be heading out into the great outdoors to various locations on their Unit Camps and thankfully the weather forecast looks much more favourable than last month when they planned to head out. We hope they all have a wonderful time. All-Star Book Fair – Winning with Reading! March 15-21, 2013Friday, 15 March –tomorrow – it all begins! The first Book Fair of the year. It is a Look n See day for all students to browse and write up a wish list. NO buying on this day.Monday, 18 March - Thursday, 21 March – Book Fair fun all week.
If you want to help support your child’s classroom, buy a book and donate it to the classroom library. Choose from the Classroom Wish Lists that the teachers have compiled.Tuesday, 19 March – Family DayAll parents, carers and guardians of students are welcome to join in the sporting fun at lunch time. Come and eat lunch with your child/ren, then enjoy or join in the entertainment and activities. Who will win the prizes? Who will do a cheer leading routine? Who will perform the Haka? Who will be the best costumed teacher? All will be revealed on Family Day – begins 11:00am.This will also be a Mufti Day for primary students. However the outfit they need to wear will be directed by their teacher. Each class has a chosen sport and they will wear clothing that reflects this. Please speak to or see your classroom teacher for details.Wednesday, 20 March – Night OpeningBook Fair is opened until 8pm. If you need to shop in peace and quiet, or for a surprise pressie, this is the time for you!Book Fair is a wonderful, memory-making event for the students. It also gives the school extra materials in commission of cash and resources. Something to think about…and get reading!This excerpt is from the Daily Telegraph (4 March, 2013).SHOWING a toddler how to hold a book properly is one of the first steps in getting youngsters interested in reading. Education commentator Kevin Donnelly said it was vital children got a taste for stories from a young age and were well-read by the time they started kindergarten.“It’s quite essential that parents - even when their children are toddlers, years before they go to school - read to them, show them picture books and get them to understand how to hold a book,” she said. “Those early years are very important because it impacts on a child’s performance at school. “One of the best things you can do is surround your children with books in the home and get them familiar with the printed word.”
Seasons for GrowthChange and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. We recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or related circumstances, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering a very successful education program called Seasons for Growth.This program is facilitated in small groups and is based on research that highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and support networks.The Seasons for Growth Program runs for eight weeks and each weekly session is 40-50 minutes. The program concludes with a ‘Celebration’ session. Later in the year each group will have the opportunity to meet for two further sessions to build on their earlier learning.Seasons for Growth will commence in Week 2 of Term 2 and will be facilitated by Jane Hughes and Rebecca Stratford who have received special training in the use of this program. If you think your son or daughter would benefit from Seasons for Growth we would encourage you to talk to him/her about this. An information session for parents and carers who would like their children to participate will be held on:Wednesday, 10 April, 2.00–2.30pm in the Library.
I would strongly encourage you to attend this session to gain an insight into the value of the program.CCAS is pleased to be able to offer this important program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those who request to be involved.
Students Arriving Late or Leaving EarlyIf you are dropping off your child at or after 8.50am please ask them to come to the Primary Administration Office to get a Late Note. Also, if you are picking your child up before 2.45pm please come to the Office and let the Receptionist know that you are taking your child off campus. The students early leave will then be recorded in the computer as an explained absence for that part of the day. We ask that you do this, so in an emergency we can account for your child.
Mothers Day and Fathers Day Stall CoordinatorOne of the highlights each year for families is Fathers and Mothers Days. Those days where parents are reminded how special they are in the eyes of their children. The school has been blessed over the years to have many wonderful coordinators of the gift stall.Our most recent coordinator has been Mrs. Janelle Yusuf who is stepping back form the role this year. We thank her for her efforts and know many wonderful stalls have been had under her guidance. If there is anyone, or even any group of parents, that feel they would like to assist with these two special days.Janelle is happy to pass on her knowledge and expertise and guide the new person or persons as they take on this role for 2013. If you are interested please contact Kim Ward in the Admin Office.

Student Referee PathwayCIS is seeking secondary students who are talented basketball and soccer referees for the opportunity to referee at the NSWPSSA Boys Soccer (May) and NSWPSSA Girls Basketball (June) Championships. Students who are interested should see Miss Page as soon as possible.
CCAS Junior Girls Soccer TrialsAny girls who are U16 and would like to trial for the CCAS Junior Girls Soccer team (which will compete in the Bill Turner Soccer Comp) need to attend trials on Monday, 18 March lunchtime on the school oval. Please bring joggers and shorts and be on the oval at the beginning of lunchtime (eat your lunch at the trials!).
Congratulations!For the second year, Lachie Faulder and Jai McNamara (both in Yr 11) represented NSWCIS at the NSW All School’s Water Polo Champs last week and CCAS is very proud of both of these athletes efforts. Huge congratulations to Jai McNamara who captained the team on the day and has been selected into the NSW All Schools team to compete at the School Sport Australia event in Perth! Good-luck!
